2 yrs ago got an acute kidney infection ( high fever, blood in pee, the works) which was treated with augmentin. since then, I keep getting less acute infections and they come back every 3 months. Low fever, very tired, abdominal swelling (a lot), back pain, urine strips show white blood cells and protein and occasionally nitrates. I had a hysterectomy 4 weeks ago (large broad lig fibroid) and I hoped that might make a difference.
4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness.
Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin,spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection). When i was on augmentin all the above symptoms went away however came back 1 or 2 days after i came off the anti biotic.
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

If you took augmentin, and it cleared up for you, it was a UTI and not an STI.
You bought her clotrimazole? That's medication for a yeast infection, which can happen for lots of reasons, and is also not an STI.
Your wife is pregnant, though, and I understand why you are worried. After you've been off the augmentin for 3 weeks, test for all STIs to be able to put this behind you.
t yet developed the infection, as would be indicated by the presence of a lesion or a positive blood test, than it takes for curative treatment. The augmentin taken twice daily for two weeks would certainly cure and prevent development of syphilis. The combination of cefixime and azithromycin would most probably prevent infection but it would not be curative if the infection was established.
My internist called me and asked if I had any pain or burning. I do not. She said I prob have UTI and started me on Augmentin for 10 days. I received the results at home from lab and am concerned about results. WBC Esterace 3+, WBC>30,RBC 11-30, Epithelial Cells {NON RENAL] >10 ,Bacteria few. The culture came up 50000-100000 Group B strep. My dr acted like this is no big deal when I called her to discuss results. Should I just calm down?
This was my second pregnancy. I have since developed a bacterial infection vaginally. My doc prescribed Metronidazole for that, and two days later I had a horrible fever and chills all night long (which I thought was a side effect of the Metronidazole) and my right breast was horribly red and really sore! I also had a cramp in the right side ovary. I went back to the doc, for the ovary pain (thinking the breast thing would resolve itself I stupidly didn't mention it to him).
so I took my STD test but before I got the result I panicked thinking of gonorrhea or syphilis and took Augmentin for 3 days. Now the tests are all negative but considering the window period for some STD, should I finish taking Augmentin as a precaution to get rid of the possible infection? Thank you.
put him on Amoxycillin due to a possible sinus infection. He also had bloodwork done and his T4 and TSH came at borderline. He responded to the Amox. for a few days and the headaches returned. This time they put him on Augmentin for "persistent" sinus infection. He finished his dosage with no improvement. He was put on Augmentin again and also started having redness and infection in his left eye.
Your suspicions are correct with the Augmentin. If you have a viral infection, it will do nothing for it. Here's the problem. If you have a viral tonsillitis, it will get better on its own in time (about the same time that was quoted for the Augmentin!). But you are also taking Augmentin. So, won't it be tempting to say that the Augmentin is what made you better? We'll never know.
If I were your treating dentist, I would look for other potential source of infection. In the mean time, if augmentin and clindamycin are not effective, I would try erythromycin family drug, such as azithromycin or clarithromycin , paired with metronidazole(flagyl). If itis possible, antibiotic sensitivity test can be done in the lab to determine which antibiotic is most effective for the cultured bacteria. Hope this helps.
Later, the Pharyngitis got worse and I had to take a dose of Augmentin after my Amox dose. I also developed Allergic Rhinitis and also started having mild eye infection (1st right eye and the then left). Since last 2 days I started having discomfort near my groin and passed a drop of blood late last night with urine.
Yesterday, I went for a Urine analysis and CBC and CMP. Urine analysis shows Blood at 25 high, WBC 20-50 and Leuko at 500 High. The WBC in CBC is 15.9. My FP gave Levaquin now.
11 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a kidney infection and took a week of Levaquin, then Ceftriaxine IV, then three weeks of Augmentin. I was fine while on the medicine, but two days after I went off I started having diarrhea and/or loose/soft stools. This has lasted for 8 weeks now and so far I've not gotten any answers from the doc. They've put me on probiotics, which I've taken faithfully, to no avail. I went on a bland diet, that didn't help either.
And also a few years ago a top left molar broke out in chunks completely, but I neglected to get the roots removed. I treated the infection myself. I did go to the dentist for that but never followed through with the root removal. I had both removed July 9, and both were infected according to my dentist. I got dry socket, and the next week I came down with a head cold or something (my son did, too) - mostly just major congestion and sinus pressure.
Hi all..i have this gum infection n im 18 weeks pregnant.the dentist injected local anaesthesia to my gum to do some debridement of the pus due to the infection.and i was prescribed with augmentin antibiotic and panadol. Can i ask if any of u who have went through pregnancy and have to take so much medications..especialy the local anaesthesia.
I got it from a girl who unknowingly had a yeast infection while I was on an antibiotic known as Augmentin for a foot injury (which apparently made me vulnerable to contracting a yeast infection). He put me on dyflucan and over the counter topical cream. The dyflucan was supposed to also re stabilize my stomach bacteria because I was having horrible stomach cramps possibly due to the augmentin and the yeast infection apparently.
