augmentin

Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat. To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
) given, then sinusitis (Augmentin for 10 days), and then due to chest congestion almost 'reflexive' given Arithromycin Z-pak all since Feb for ear infection and May for sinusitis and chest. I am two and a half weeks off the Augmentin and Arithromycin and I had a lot of blowing nose excessively and coughing excessively. Now I am having lots of postnasal drip. I am taking Allegra and Alleve to help with these symptoms and hope it dries up soon!
You may have not completely treated the infection and augmentin may not have been effective. Have your internal organs been checked for signs of an infection? for example kidneys? I hope you get better soon. Regards, John.
I was sick over the holidays with what was most likely an infection. I had a head/chest cold that produced a ton of mucus. The mucus stopped and I felt better on or around the 10th of January, with just a residual cough in the a.m's occasionally. On the morning of the 13th, I had a small coughing spell and during the last hard cough, I felt a pinching pain in my temple. Later that day, I was doing laundry and to bend over and get the clothes was excrutiating!
My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin, spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection). When i was on augmentin all the above symptoms went away however came back 1 or 2 days after i came off the anti biotic.
It was near impossible to breathe. On top of that I started having migrains for the past 3 days. My chest still hurts and now I have back pains. What could it be?
However, by Dec. 24th (while waiting for the results) my symptoms worsened and I began the Augmentin. Just like in November, it stopped the green phlegm/mucus very quickly & abruptly - within about 24 hours. However, I have the sinus pressure & dry, irritated, asthma like symptoms just like before. I am presently taking Foradil, Asthmex sometimes a nasal cortisteroid & pseudoephedrine (and neti potting).
You should see your doctor and get a clinical examination for a diagnosis and to evaluate if any investigations are required including blood tests, chest xray and CT scan of the sinuses. Are you allergic to any specific substances or have had allergic reactions in the past? You could read the following link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinusitis Let us now about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts. Regards.
When i get the chest infection, my chest get quite tight and wheezy and I would get quite caught up with phlem. Only a trip to the GP followed by a course of Antibiotics (ie. Augmentin Duo / Klasid) and steroids (ie. prenedislone) will clear the infection. My GP is absolutely puzzled by me! I don't smoke, eat well and healthy. I have had chest x-rays and blood tests- nothing showed up. Only thing that springs to mind as to been a trigger is alcohol.
He was seen again on friday and they took a chest xray and looked for pneumonia but said he didnt have it. by Saturday he was so bad with dry heaves and no energy that he was taken to the hospital. When he arrived there, the emergency department could not even find vitals on him, and this man walked into the hospital. During the 5 hours he was there before he died they tried to say that he had a bad heart but we find that hard to believe.
as for other meds to give for an ear infection, i had asked that question to my ped before the ear infection came about and she said unfortunately there is nothing. she said, a cold is a cold and the child's body will either fight it off or it will become an infection in the sinuses/ears and at that point you need an antibiotic to kill the infection or it will only get worse. good luck. hope your little one feels better soon.
in my normal primary's office (she was out of town) for a toe infection last week where he perscribed me an antibiotic as well as Lisinpril for high blood pressure (hovering around 155/95 for the last year).
I have had a nasal staph infection for 3 months..it is now confined to each side of the septum. Have done courses of Bactrim, Augmentin, dicloxacillin along with bactroban cream. The initial course of bactrim and bactroban cleared it up in 8 days. Was told to stop taking medication...infection returned in 5 days. Am now on another round of Bactrim (completed 10 of 14 days) & it does not seem to be working. Have had CT scan and sinuses ok. What do you suggest I try next? Thanks!
Hi.  I definitely have allergies (cats/ragweed) and asthma.  Two years ago in August, I was sick, vomiting I was so ill.  Twice, two weeks apart.  From that point on fatigue never left me.  Several months later, in February, I came down with a horrible upper respiratory infection at the same time I was exposed to a huge dose of animal protein and a very unsanitary condition filled with unimaginable filth.  I've never lost my voice before, but this time, I could hardly squeak out a word.
Almost like a chill, i get a low grade fever, never really goes above 100 degrees chills and as I said a dull aching in the center of my back, one doc suggested that perhaps I have a sphnoid sinus infection, 10 more days of augmentin xr, the odd thing is after taking this med for as little as 2 days I feel fine, head doesn't hurt back doesn't hurt, {caughing stops for the most part since i am a smoker} little or no face pain and i can feel the junk actually breaking up in my chest and i am abl
I am currently on my 6th day of antibiotics and for the past few days have been experiencing chest tightness and asthma like symptoms (I was asthmatic as a child and experience symptoms rarely now). I do not have any yellow/green phlegm and each day my coughs seem more productive but havent really produced any clearing of the lungs.
About the only thing you can do at home for yourself for pain relief is gentle warm salt water rinses. Chest pain could be from the anxiety you mention but also from holding your mouth open and tensing muscles across the front of your chest that you would ordinarily not tighten up. This can cause inflammation in the chest wall itself (costochondritis). If you have extreme pain or swelling, a trip to the ER if you can't get your dentist may be in order as that could indicate infection.
I have a variety of things going on here. I'll try to keep it as simple as possible. About 4 weeks ago I began to have a dry, unproductive cough that resulted in a dry/sore throat, as well as a hoarse voice. About 3 days into it, the cough became VERY productive. After about 2 full weeks, the coughing become MUCH LESS FREQUENT, but still there. In fact, I STILL have a cough (not NEAR as bad as before....but I still do have to cough).
Hi and thanks for using the forum. You could have the lingering cough for a while. Since the chest x-ray is normal, then you probably don't have pneumonia. It is more than likely viral in nature (especially since you have done both courses of antibiotics). My only other suggestion would be to ask your doctor about a course of steroids. They could help open up your airway a bit and calm down your cough if indicated. Also, a nebulizer treatment could help.
My first thought was- what the heck is going on- I have this bad sinus infection , on meds for that for 20 days- it never goes away- was told to take celexa- (which I took at the same time as the anti-biotic)- and then started having attacks, tingling in my fingers and toes, and then I am being sent to a pyschologists? for anxiety or panic disorder.??? I really hope you get better and I did go to chiropractor ( I have not been in a few months though)...maybe I should go back for a visit.

I then put on Naproxen for chest tightness and Zithromax (Z-pak)for possible bacterial infection, and an albuterol inhaler. That seemed to work for the chest pain i was having besides the inhaler, which made me feel like i was much more swollen. So i finished the zithromax last saturday, havent had chest *pain* since then, however, i do have chest tightness still, and yesterday my throat felt so swollen i thought my head was swelling up. so again i went to the doctor...
Most productive in the morning but can happen anytime of day depending on how run down I'm feeling. Last year I was on 6 consecutive courses of antibiotics for a chest infection(I'm prone to pneumonia) and didn't have the throat symptoms for 3 months but of course it came back. Now 2 of my three teenagers have it and have for a few years but they're healthier than me and don't seem to experience the symptoms as chronically as I do.
And also an ultrasound of my neck. Everything came back Fine. My doctor put me on Augmentin which is an antibotic for 6 weeks.. I did feel better. Until I had to have my tooth extracted…(this again was major anxiety for me. I went to an oral surgeon and was amazed of how quick and painless the procedure was…However the healing part wasn’t fun. (its only been 2-1/2 weeks) They told me that having the infected tooth extracted would take care of all the problems I was having.
If your doctor is worried that you might have pneumonia, a chest x-ray can look to see if there's an infection, especially for those who have coughed for more than 3 weeks. With a viral bronchitis, you should avoid antibiotics especially zpacks (Zithromax / azithromycin) which are overprescribed for these symptoms , and can lead to side effects and adverse drug reaction such as rash, antibiotic drug resistance and yeast infections.
jody22976 - I have exactly what you describe, it started around Xmas and has been the same since then. First deep breath I take when I wake up in the morning results in this funny feeling in the centre of my chest, its kind of like a tickly feeling really hard to describe, could be mucus moving I guess but it only happens once when I wake up. Sometimes if I have been lieing down for a while it might happen. I also have this irritation in the back of my throat which is causing a dry cough.

What exactly are the "concerning" symptoms for MS? I've heard of so many having "odd" symptoms and being told its anxiety to later find out it was actually MS. Why is it so hard to diagnosed and so easily brushed off as symptoms of anxiety?
a woman can easily tell from vaginal yeast infection, but men, they have to look for other symptoms-constipation,bloating,perhaps more beer drinking(yeast food),tired easily, sleep too much, sleep too little. i am surprised on several postings when someone mentioned he has been on cipro for 4 weeks or any antibiotics for 2 weeks,no one mention the possibility of yeast infection. anyway, just my 2 cents.
