I presume that you have finished the course of the antibiotics about a week ago.
If that is the case, make an appointment with your doctor. Although the abscess is draining the "plug" needs to be removed. If the "plug" of the abscess has not come out, the abscess will continue to fester.
As the abscess is oozing slowly means that you have an open wound and because of that you are unable to apply a magnesium sulphate drawing ointment.

I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink. It is not hard and not terribly sensitive today. What could have happened to cause this swelling and do you think the abscess has not been completely resolved?
I had surgery on december 23rd and my healing process was fine too up until today (feb 10) when i noticed some brownish stuff had leaked from the spot where the abscess had been drained. Since there was no problem for over a month I don't understand what could have caused this and I'm worried because i hope I don't have to go through this again. please let me know what you think and many thanks for your help.
Over the past 18 months I have had three anal abscesses, and I had another abscess approximately 6 years ago. In all cases these abscess presented quickly (within 2 days) and I have had to have 3 of 4 drained by the surgeon. My most recent was caught early so my doctor decided to try Augmentin before having me see a surgeon to have it drained. But, I'm getting concerned that this definitely doesn't seem normal for someone who is healthy and my age -- 29 years old.
I have pitting edema in my face (if I poke my cheeks with my finger, an indentation stays behind for a bit). It's worse on the left. My face isn't really puffed up like the moon or anything. I've always had chipmunk cheeks, and I'm overweight, so Idk, but they are pitting. I've googled and see that some potential causes are cellulitis, hypothyroidism, tooth abscess, allergies, trauma, infections, inflammation, I think lupus?, and cancer.
I was tested for cancer and the dr could not find traces of cancer or TB.. I have been on Augmentin SR for the past month.drinking 2 in the morning and two at night for the first 7 days, thereafter 1 in the morning and one at night. I have to see the one dr tomorrow as I have been treated now by 2 specialists and the one who treated me last week, in a months time.. A CAT scan was also done, hence the abscess and treatment.
Hi everyone, I have 3 cats that are litter mates. 1 little Princess girl, and 2 little stinker boys. I also have 4 other kitties. The 2 brothers came to blows about 4 days back and now 1 has an abscess by his ear on the top of his head. I've been able to clean it with some Chlorhexidine scrub and warm water a couple times since finding the abscess yesterday. When I asked what was wrong he said it could be a few things and prescribed Augmentin 825 mg twice daily and Naproxenum 250 mg twice daily for a week. I asked if it could be a perianal abscess or a hematoma and if it should be lanced and drained. He said told me it is best to wait and see if it gets worse and if it does go back to a doctor and have it looked at again.
Funny enough, just on Monday, my father needed his tooth number 7 removed due to an abscess and need for an implant and I only removed the tooth, we will wait a few weeks and then place the graft at that time (in his case he has lost much bone on the front part of the jaw bone) and then place the implants. I would recommed a CT scan always.

Hi! I recently had a root canal and was prescribed clindamycin too....I too have allergies to other antibiotics. The clindomycin did NOTHING and the infection got worse so now I am on CIPRO which was my own idea. I don't know if it is working 100% yet, but at least the infection has died down and I can tell it is helping......
It took longer for the clindamycin to work this time, and a new doctor concluded I may have developed some resistance to it after being on it for close to 2 months at that point. I was put on Augmentin, but this did nothing for the infection and only made me swell (hands, abdomen, throat) after a few days. But, when I was restarted on the clindamycin, the clindamycin worked better that time - more quickly - so maybe the Augmentin had been doing some good I don't know.
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

t yet developed the infection, as would be indicated by the presence of a lesion or a positive blood test, than it takes for curative treatment. The augmentin taken twice daily for two weeks would certainly cure and prevent development of syphilis. The combination of cefixime and azithromycin would most probably prevent infection but it would not be curative if the infection was established.

It may be Augmentin or it may be something else. I think you should mention this to your doctor.
Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat.
To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
Hey everyone, so I’ve had a tooth abscess for YEARS now (since my junior year of high school) and I’ve gone a couple times to the dentist and have gotten a round of antibiotics but never went back to get the tooth pulled after finishing the antibiotics, over the years I’ve been able to pop the abscess though it wasn’t very much puss that came out at all, so I figured I was ok as long as I was able to drain it.
4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness.
Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
