I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

That definitely sounds like a fungal infection. I've had a sinus infection and ear infection for well over a month now. It was so bad that I was going to the doctor daily for IV antibiotics. I was sent to the ENT who suctioned my ear and found I had a fungal infection. My ear drum also had a small perforation which affected my hearing some. He had me continue with the antibiotics and gave me eardrops. The eardrops smelled like vinegar and burned.
On Friday, June 11th, I was diagnosed with otitis media (middle ear infection) and placed on Augmentin and pain reliving drops. I am still experiencing pain as if someone is stabbing me in the ear, it is keeping me awake, and my ear is completely blocked with what feels like fluid. I stil feel awful and cannot get comfortable at all.
Should I return to the doctor? My ear is hurting me a lot and I am having pain into my kneck and terrible headaches.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat.
To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
I had an ear infection last week and was put on Augmentin for the first time. By Thursday I had developed a bad case of thrush with blisters down my throat! They stopped the Augmentin and started me on Nystatin, Ear drop antibiotics, and Vicodin for the pain Friday. By Sunday afternoon I had awful leg cramps and yesterday morning the pain was so bad that I had to go to urgent care. They drew labs but said they felt I was allergic to the vicodin. Gave me a steroid shot and steroid pack.

With Cipro drops the eye seemed to be doing better, but again there was this feeling of something in his left eye. Currently diagnosed with double ear infection of middle ear and sinus infection not responsive to augmentin (newly prescribed ceftin). Currently suffering from severe pressure in head behind eyes only alleviated by anti inflammatories like toradol shots (pain medications do not work for head pressure/pain). If I were your treating dentist, I would look for other potential source of infection. In the mean time, if augmentin and clindamycin are not effective, I would try erythromycin family drug, such as azithromycin or clarithromycin , paired with metronidazole(flagyl). If itis possible, antibiotic sensitivity test can be done in the lab to determine which antibiotic is most effective for the cultured bacteria. Hope this helps.
I wish people would stop saying Augmentin is not known to cause arthralgia, myalgia because there are so many instances that it did if you surf the internet on patient reviews. I took Aumentin 875 mg x 10 days for inner ear infection. On the 13th day I started having mild neck and shoulder blade pain then went away with massage.Then got some pains on different areas encircling shoulder joint I thought just a mild pulled muscle.Symptoms happened insidiously.
Your suspicions are correct with the Augmentin. If you have a viral infection, it will do nothing for it. Here's the problem. If you have a viral tonsillitis, it will get better on its own in time (about the same time that was quoted for the Augmentin!). But you are also taking Augmentin. So, won't it be tempting to say that the Augmentin is what made you better? We'll never know.
The pain continued for several days and now I have a horrible ear infection (but on the ear on the other side). I am now on 4000 mg of Augmentin for the ear w/ruficin (sp) shot as well. I am in horrible pain ~ My question is should I try to get an emergency extraction of the tooth that is black and hurting? Can the tooth be the cause of the ear infection? Please help, any advice is GREATLY appreciated...I am scheduled for the root-canal re-do in 6 days but I don't think I can make it.
5 to 3.5 (2 art heart valves). About 6 to 8 weeks ago, I took augmentin for 10 days, 2 weeks ago, I took another antibiotic for 5 days. Since then, my PT/INR has been too low, 2.0. And also a few years ago a top left molar broke out in chunks completely, but I neglected to get the roots removed. I treated the infection myself. I did go to the dentist for that but never followed through with the root removal. I had both removed July 9, and both were infected according to my dentist. I got dry socket, and the next week I came down with a head cold or something (my son did, too) - mostly just major congestion and sinus pressure.
Days after a fistula appeared on the gum and I suffered massive head pain as the infection drained. However the infection persists. My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin,spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection). When i was on augmentin all the above symptoms went away however came back 1 or 2 days after i came off the anti biotic.
Ive had a fungus infection in my ear 2 times before and thats what this felt like, so I was prescribed Augmentin for a regular ear infection, but it does nothing for me, so i got online and there was a home remedie of drops of white vinegar in the ear. So i did it and it helped my pain a lot. this was before dr flushed my ear out. So i think the vinegar killed the fungus, but now its oozing clear fluid when i tilt my head, and its plugged. It has been plugged the entire 5 days.
It ranges from 99 to 100.1. It all started with ear infection and doctor prescribed augmentin. Ear infection got treated but he has this low grade fever after that. His pediatrician got all the blood tests including AR and urine test done. He did mono and immunity test as well and all are normal. he is active in fever as well and there are no other symptoms. Please help as seeing your little one in fever breaks your heart.
