Augmentin and liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Augmentin and liver damage

augmentin

Avatar n tn Augmentin can cause liver damage, as can tylenol (if you take more than the recommended 4,000 mg/day). I suppose that the risk would be increased with concurrent use of augmentin and tylenol. Usually, once you have stopped taking the medication, your enzymes could trend downwards to normal. Do you take any cardiac medications (ie. amiodorone, etc)?
Avatar n tn Augmentin and Zocor have been known to be potentially hepatotoxic. Tylenol is safe, if it is taken as directed (less than 4,000 mg/daily). I imagine that those 3 drugs taken together can increase the potential for damage to the liver. Have you talked with your doctor about possibly substituting another lipid lowering drug...and getting off the Zocor? Are you still taking Augmentin? Remember to be careful about your tylenol intake...
Avatar f tn I was sick last week, chills, aches, unbelievable fatigue. Had been on Augmentin for a sinus infection, just finishing up the script, and take Crestor, Nexium, and Zyrtec on a regular basis. Symptoms started a few days after starting generic Zyrtec, which also caused unbelievable dryness that felt like I was dehydrated (no vomiting, though). A day after the chills, I noticed my urine was dark and my stools were very light, almost gray, and I started getting very itchy but no rash.
Avatar m tn dx with augmentin induced drug hepatitis 3 weeks ago. Stopped drug , had elevated liver enzymes, ALT 469 AST 205. jaundice, dark urine, pale fatty stools. Bili peaked at 16.9 last week, now coming down (8). Liver enzymes slowly coming down. Jaundice starting to fade. Ultra sound normal except local areas of fatty infiltrate. My question... can toxic hepatitis CAUSE fatty liver in the acute phase?
Avatar m tn 1- Liver test (Hepatitis B and C) 2- General blood test (Biochemical analysis) 3- Urine test Would my antibiotic (augmentin 1g) and the above medication affect the results of the above tests? and if so, after how long should i go to these tests whenver i stop my medication?
Avatar n tn Not only does Nyquil have alcohol...but it also has tylenol. So mixing nyquil with tylenol increases the risk of acetaminophen overdose.
Avatar n tn and GGT 112, ALT 49; and ALP 118. I am worried that the drugs might have caused damage to the liver; Since discovering these results I have not had any alcohol or eaten fatty food. Usually I do drink most days (2-3 glasses of wine, no liqor). I would be very grateful for your opinion on what steps I should take next/whether I should be worried. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn 4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness. Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've had a few UTIs over the last few years, which seem to have been pretty serious. my skin looks clear but on the inside I think there's a lot of vessel damage and pain. my penis skin was peeling and there were these cuts or sores on the top of the penis that wouldn't heal. maybe the fungus got into my urinary tract and infected everything? it's terrible is there anything to repair the numbness and vessels?
Avatar f tn People can have elavated readings but have little or no damage and you can have normal readings but have damage.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if a Dr is aloud to treat me for gonnorhea and clamydia even though i have had multiple negative tests? I am concerned that damage is being done to my reproductive organs.
Avatar n tn Take a diet rich in Vit B12 which should include meat and animal products, cheese, such as beef, liver, salmon, cod, and eggs. Take B12 supplements and breakfast cereals fortified with vitamin B12. Finding the cause is important. The rash could be due to Augmentin and other drugs you are taking. Once the B12 injections start acting, the medicines can be stopped after talking to your doctor. Talk to a nutrition expert about a diet rich in B12. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have had normal liver enzyme test and a normal ultrasound and ct scan, but I still have extreme bloating. This has been going on for months now. I worry because I binge drank on a nightly basis for about an 8 year span, 3-5(sometimes more) glasses of wine and such. Should I be worried that I have liver damage that is just not showing up? I have changed my diet significantly ( no dairy or gluten) but I am still very bloated. I am sick with worry that I have caused permanent damage.
Avatar f tn The only way to truly ease your mind is by being totally honest with him/her. I have liver damage and kidney damage due to drugs stage 2 liver stage 3 kidney.. if your liver were damaged and you had a flare your belly would be extended/pain upper right you would be lethargic/vomiting.. other symptoms but these being severe.. It is not fun and I would not wish it on anyone.. I contracted hep C from slamming and further continued the damage through pills/alcohol..

1012981 tn?1322603293 My brother has been in the hospital for 12 days for liver damage. His skin and eyes are yellow, abdomen pain and swelling of the stomach. They drained off 12 liters of fluid from stomach area. He's has dementia, no communicating with him that makes any sense. In this situation what is his chance to make it through this? The doctors and nurses are not saying much, but wait and see.

Avatar n tn for a checkup yesterday and the ALT liver function test was high. The other liver tests were normal just that one was high. The Dr. thinks it is from my acid reflux medication and is changing that but I rarely take it. Could it be the Darvocet? Sometimes I take one then another before the four hours are up for the next dose but mostly only one at a time. I just thought as long as I only took the recommended amount I wouldn't damage my liver.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 3 to 4 vics a day. They are 10mg-660's. I don't drink, am I trashing my liver?? 1691630 tn?1329366215 Recently I have noticed after being slightly constipated, and working out, a lot of pain/soreness in that area, and in my right lower back. I was curious if I might have damaged my liver awhile back, and maybe symptoms are showing now? I know the liver heals itself though, so I am not sure if I should just wait for it to still heal, or if I should get it checked out? Thanks for your help!
Avatar m tn The recommended dose of paracetamol for a single adult is two standard 500 mg tablets. Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller).
Avatar f tn (Former drug user) what are the chances I already have liver damage??? I go in the morning for a liver scan to check and I am nervous to know!!!
Avatar f tn Hard to say but if he stops attacking the liver with alcohol, no further damage should be done and some of those numbers should go down at least a little.
