Common Questions and Answers about Augmentin and kidney disease

augmentin

Avatar f tn I agree with Marina that a referral to a specialist is in order. As well one week's worth of antibiotics isn't very much. When I get a bladder infection I need two weeks worth of Cipro (allergic to sulpha drugs - which are the best for urinary issues). Cipro is a harsh drug, but it works well to clean out tough infections. (too if you are exposed to anthrax you'll be fine because that is the drug they use to prevent anthrax infections. useless bit of information for you.
Avatar f tn 4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness. Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
Avatar m tn You should consult your doctor about getting other investigations done including a kidney and liver function test. Are you having any other symptoms like yellow skin or yellow urine, loss of appetite, nausea, etc? If the symptoms are still persistent, consult a gastroenterologist and get a proper clinical evaluation done. Let us know if you have any doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing. Hope this helps. Good luck.
442628 tn?1204892851 I was told I had acute bronchitis and the augmentin and steroids . The steroids I've been on when I had a pinched nerve . But the augmentin is making it hurt like a UTI.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor a week ago, and she seemed to think they were bacterial and gave me a prescription for Augmentin and Bactroban ointment. They have slowly started to look better, but today I noticed they had a bulleyes appearance. Do you think this could be Lyme disease?
Avatar f tn If you took augmentin, and it cleared up for you, it was a UTI and not an STI. You bought her clotrimazole? That's medication for a yeast infection, which can happen for lots of reasons, and is also not an STI. Your wife is pregnant, though, and I understand why you are worried. After you've been off the augmentin for 3 weeks, test for all STIs to be able to put this behind you.
Avatar n tn 11 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a kidney infection and took a week of Levaquin, then Ceftriaxine IV, then three weeks of Augmentin. I was fine while on the medicine, but two days after I went off I started having diarrhea and/or loose/soft stools. This has lasted for 8 weeks now and so far I've not gotten any answers from the doc. They've put me on probiotics, which I've taken faithfully, to no avail. I went on a bland diet, that didn't help either.
Avatar f tn My internist called me and asked if I had any pain or burning. I do not. She said I prob have UTI and started me on Augmentin for 10 days. I received the results at home from lab and am concerned about results. WBC Esterace 3+, WBC>30,RBC 11-30, Epithelial Cells {NON RENAL] >10 ,Bacteria few. The culture came up 50000-100000 Group B strep. My dr acted like this is no big deal when I called her to discuss results. Should I just calm down?
Avatar m tn I am so sorry that information about lyme disease and its dangers is not yet out there enough for everyone. I believe you have Lyme Disease (a 10 year sufferer here) You need to be tested asap. See if you can get your family practitioner to send your blood to Igenex. I had bells palsy just after my diagnosis. Not sure where you are in NJ but I am in northampton county PA and have an excellent family practitioner not to far from Belvidere, NJ if your interested.
Avatar f tn I am 22 and have just found out I have kidney disease. I do not want to tell my family, because I know they wouldn't deal with it very well. Is it likely to be easy keeping this from them (I live with them)? I am considering not receiving any treament for now to make extra certain family don't find out.
Avatar m tn so I took my STD test but before I got the result I panicked thinking of gonorrhea or syphilis and took Augmentin for 3 days. Now the tests are all negative but considering the window period for some STD, should I finish taking Augmentin as a precaution to get rid of the possible infection? Thank you.

Avatar f tn Hi there, about a month and a half ago I started feeling like something was always under both my ribs and it has been persistently like this and it's really uncomfortable, I'm also always itchy at night and have been feeling really dizzy and lightheaded constantly. I've went to my doctors and they took my bloods and all that came up was that my potassium levels were slightly high.

Avatar f tn Hi recently I had pain on my adominal, usually the pain is on the right upper abdomen and the pain seem to move to lower left and right. I haven't did my kidney function test yet but I already did liver function test and my ALT is 9 U/L does this low ALT indicate that I have kidney issues?
387767 tn?1345872027 Be sure to discuss all recommended vaccines with your veterinarian. A cat with kidney disease or kidney failure should not be vaccinated at all. Long-term feeding of an all-dry-food diet is also suspected as a factor in Chronic Renal Failure. Cats' kidneys are highly efficient and adapted to life in the desert, where they would get most or all of their water from eating their prey.
Avatar f tn Im very sick and cant get anyone to help. Ive even had a dr tell me he wont diagnose me with kidney disease until I get insurance so I got insurance and they denied coverage before he even diagnosed me. I then had to quit working due to illness. Now Ive got no job and no insurance and no help. What do all these results mean? Whats the next step? Who will help me?
Avatar n tn Hello, The symptoms are definitely suggestive of kidney disease. You should get an ultrasound kidneys and kidney function tests done to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn Obviously, he has severe anemia and no amount of iron will fix this kind. I have never heard of chemotherapy for kidney disease or kidney damage. I have kidney damage (kidney disease) due to an autoimmune disease. Kidney function is at 26% now, up from 20%. Autoimmune disease is in remission since I had all the mercury fillings removed from my teeth.
Avatar n tn I would encourage both of you to talk with his endocrinologist about looking into possible changes that can bring his a1c levels well down below 7. That truly is his best protection not only against kidney disease, but against other complications. If sugar levels are maintained at near normal levels, damage cannot happen.
Avatar f tn I have a 14 year old cocker spaniel who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She originally got sick a few weeks ago with pacreatitis, and when she recovered her lab work showed the kidney problems. We have been giving her fluids every other night as well as the epakitin powder with her food. Her blood report was better this last time. However she seems pretty good, has a good appetite ect and I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this disease?
