Augmentin and c diff

Common Questions and Answers about Augmentin and c diff

augmentin

Avatar n tn 11 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a kidney infection and took a week of Levaquin, then Ceftriaxine IV, then three weeks of Augmentin. I was fine while on the medicine, but two days after I went off I started having diarrhea and/or loose/soft stools. This has lasted for 8 weeks now and so far I've not gotten any answers from the doc. They've put me on probiotics, which I've taken faithfully, to no avail. I went on a bland diet, that didn't help either.
Avatar m tn Antibiotics often have diarrhea as a side effect, or this could be something like C Diff. However the black stool is concerning and this would make me think this is more likely to be C Diff. I would recommend seeing your doctor about this.
Avatar f tn However, last week of Februaru I developed white spots at the back of my throat. My doctor said it was strep and gave me Augmentin which reduced the appearance somewhat but not completely. I got the covid vaccine astrazeneca, got a fever and the white spots increased once again (even worse). My doctor gave me Augmentin again for a week along with flucanazole. I’m at the end of the course of treatment. The white spots have decreased but some are still there.
Avatar f tn @Tanjat's advice is perfect. I had c diff and boy oh boy it was no fun. The doctor treated me with antibiotics but my digestive system was still uneasy afterwards, but, it was florastor that gave me my life back. Best wishes and I hope that all gets better soon.
Avatar f tn i have c-diff and had sex with boyfriend 3 days before i was told i had it. can he get it too?
3166043 tn?1514260018 So I recently started using [Dalacin T - topical treatment](http://www.drugs.com/uk/dalacin-t-1-topical-solution-leaflet.html) again for my acne now that I have drug coverage. (Previously used it 2009-2012 after a severe ance breakout) I have severe health anxiety and I remember that diarrhea is a side effect from using it so when I had a loose stool last night and just a hour ago i'm pretty sure I have C-diff. I have severe health anxiety.

Avatar n tn s put on a course of antibiotics specific for treating C. diff. Make sure they discuss the subject thoroughly as C. diff can be difficult to resolve.
Avatar f tn I have a father i lost to c diff and now a mother battling it can anyone help me. Need a specialist or someone educated for guidance. They are older and cannot find the help we need. Please anyone with anything would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn my father was recently diagnosed with c diff. he has two small dogs and they do have accidents in the house. going forward, is there anything special we should use to clean the carpet? Obviously I can not use bleach on the carpet so I'm looking for professional help?
Avatar f tn Hi, just recovered from C Diff as well. Had it for 5 months and it took three extended rounds of antibiotics to completely knock it out, the last round being a six week vancomycin taper. I had many "false negative" lab results in between relapses. You didnt mention which med you took for your C Diff, but I just wanted to add that my first round was Flagyl, and it caused the numbness/tingling/swelling for me. The vancomycin did not.
Avatar m tn I was on antibiotics most of the summer for various reason and then when I got a abscessed tooth the dentist gave me a antibiotic that in the end I got c-diff and was prescribed flagyl for 10 days. After taking the medication I felt better but now about a little over 2 weeks I have a tightness in my stomach and feel bloated, really gassy, plus my stool isn't diarrhea but is not really my normal stool. I also have an occasional discomfort under or right at my belly button.
Avatar n tn I tested postitive for C-Diif. I was given 7 days of Avaloc and 12 days of flagyl. One day after finishing the antibiotics I took 3 stools samples and they were negative. Was it too soon to test?
Avatar f tn my 1 year old daughter has c-diff and they put her on a antibiotic to treat her for it, she ran out of medicine a day early is that ok? she also still has diareah and it still has the smell it had when she had c-diff should i get her tested again.? is it normal for it not to go away after her taking medicind?
Avatar f tn My dog is paralyzed from ruptured discs in her back despite surgery. She obviously has no bowel or bladder control secondary to this. She has been on antibiotics twice for a urinary tract infection in the last 16 months. She has never had diarrhea but since she does occasionally have an accident in the house, I was curious whether a human can get C diff from her.
Avatar n tn it binds some toxins, produced by C-diff. Antibiotic still have to be useed.
Avatar m tn The infectious disease doctor did not want to treat them , in fear of me getting c-diff. Since 9/15 i have been on ceftin, bactrim, doxycycline, amoxycillin augmentin , zosyn, cetamadine, gentamyacin, zithromyacin and cypro. I just seen my pulmanologist due to a cough she gave me ceftin i finished that on 4/18/2016. She sent me for another sputum test , i did the test on 4/22/2016 . Now the results show the same infections above plus the pseudonomas still active.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed and treated for diverticulitis 12/31/12 with flagyl and augmentin. By mid-January I became much more ill with significant diarhhea, nausea, fever, and left lower quadrant pain. I was negative for c-diff 1/12/13 but tested positive 16 days later. I was prescribed a 14 day course of vancomycin. I have been taking florastor for weeks to hasten return of normal flora. Even after treatment diarhhea has been evident with extreme nausea on some days, and painful abdominal spasms.
Avatar m tn Also, when whipping, no way to say it otherwise, it looked like a murder scene. However, all tests returned negative for Stool cultures, c diff, and parasites in fecal samples. Thus, I began taking lomotil for the diarrhea and it's somewhat subsided... for precaution I went our local ER on 1/16/11 and was given CBC count, all/fine. They did a stool sample still present albeit, microscopic. Again, no internal hem chk, no anascope exp, dr. was ER Trained, no exp with the device (Weird ?).
Avatar m tn 1- Liver test (Hepatitis B and C) 2- General blood test (Biochemical analysis) 3- Urine test Would my antibiotic (augmentin 1g) and the above medication affect the results of the above tests? and if so, after how long should i go to these tests whenver i stop my medication?
Avatar f tn I thought I had c diff to be honest. But it got somewhat better although I had raging diarrhea and odd stools for a month. I used exactly what SassyLassie says, probiotics. I took it regularly. And I learned about something called "prebiotic" which you also do. That's things like pickles and sauerkraut. (yep, that kind of thing. Apple cider vinegar too). I also drank kambucha tea. All set you up for the probiotic to do their thing and multiply your good bacteria.
Avatar n tn I had an ear infection last week and was put on Augmentin for the first time. By Thursday I had developed a bad case of thrush with blisters down my throat! They stopped the Augmentin and started me on Nystatin, Ear drop antibiotics, and Vicodin for the pain Friday. By Sunday afternoon I had awful leg cramps and yesterday morning the pain was so bad that I had to go to urgent care. They drew labs but said they felt I was allergic to the vicodin. Gave me a steroid shot and steroid pack.
Avatar f tn Is there any safe way to treat the UTI when I may or may not still have C. Diff. For now, the only relief I get is drinking lots of water and cranberry juice--which results in many trips to the bathroom. If I don't drink water, it becomes quite miserable. The doctor says he cannot test for the presence of C. Diff. until I have been off Vancomycin for 2 weeks. Even still I really do not want to take another antibiotic now.
