Common Questions and Answers about Attenuated psychotic symptoms syndrome

psychotic

Avatar m tn He has a noticable large and square head and I wondered if this was the symptom of a known syndrome or such? The dramatic change in his behaviour is also very significant. We are mainly interested in trying to diagnose a cause and so accelerate some help for this child. We have referred him to the educational psychologists but this will take months/years to happen.
Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar n tn Doc has suggested attenuated FAP but could be Hyperplastic Polyposis Syndrome (HPS) both are quite rare. My concern is either the first doc missed 25+ polyps or they grew in 3 months. Both scenarios seem remote. Second colonoscopy scheduled for Jan 6 so we will see. Just very disconcerting!!
Avatar f tn Not sure you're right about taking two or more of these can cause it. Two of the drugs affect serotonin, but only trazadone does this primarily. However, any of these drugs by themselves (not including melatonin, which is not a drug and is one of the safest supplements ever studied) could cause all of your side effects and the combination wouldn't be appealing to me.
Avatar m tn 5 mg per day and have 6 days left to stop it on advice of my Psychiatrist but I am finding the withdrawal syndrome extremely difficult and am experiencing lots of anxiety.I would want to know if anyone has experienced similar withdrawal syndrome from Risperidone or similar such anti psychotics and about how long could this withdrawal syndrome last after stopping this medicine as I am very distressed with this anxiety.Any responses and suggestions are welcome.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the explanation. I guess I confused paranoid syndrome with paranoid personality. The doctor said she had paranoid syndrome. From what I'm now reading it may mean that she has the symptoms that may occur in paranoid schizophrenia, but may also occur e.g. under extreme stress or due to physical problems, so he does not know for sure yet. She's only visited him 3 times so far.

Avatar f tn Despite normal insulin labs, the decades of untreated magnesium deficiency and hypothyroidism have caused insulin resistance symptoms. Some of my hypothyroidism and magnesium deficiency symptoms also mimicked Cushing's disease. A few examples include a rounded face and swelled abdomen due to hypothyroidism and excessive thirst and high blood pressure due to magnesium deficiency.

Avatar n tn MY CT SCAN CAME BACK AND SAID FATTY LIVER WITH LOW ATTENUATED LESIONS WITHIN THE LEFT LOBE MOST CONSISTENT WITH HEPATIC CYST THIS CAN BE FOLLOWED WITH ULTRASOUND EXPLAIN FOR ME
Avatar n tn All of a sudden in 2009 meds quit working as effectively, dr added effexor and trazadone to my celexa and something I was taking for pain that increased serotonin levels, within 5 days I was hospitalized with serotonin syndrome. Horrific experience since i am in the medical field myself. The drs around here are not familiar with this disease so it has been difficult to treat. I have been trying different meds for the last 2 years now and after a few doctors have had no good results.
Avatar m tn If a vaccine is inactivated that just means that it is a dead virus. usually when they give you a vaccine that is active or not 100% inactivated it is a live "attenuated" virus. this means it has been rendered or become non-infectious. So both types of vaccines work. There are very rare cases where people got the flu or whatever from a live vaccine such as in children's vaccines sometimes. The rabies vaccine in the U.S. is inactivated (killed) virus. You cannot get rabies from it.
Avatar m tn Children with chronic granulomatous disease can be given live-attenuated viral vaccines and vaccines with inactivated virus, but cannot receive live-attenuated bacterial vaccines (e.g., BCG and typhoid vaccine). They can receive influenza vaccine. If the doctor is not giving the vaccine, there must be a reason. Please discuss with your child’s doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
1965148 tn?1354978634 Hey Elinah, I have experienced two psychotic manic episodes after being put on antidepressants. They both lasted at least a week. It started out as a feeling of increased euphoria, racing thoughts, confidence boost, insomnia and impulsiveness. These symptoms progressed and got more intense as time went on, and after a few days my thoughts began to turn sinister. I started having hallucinations and hearing voices telling me to kill myself and others.
Avatar m tn I don't have feedback to you because I'm on the other end of the situation. But if you don't mind I have a question. My husband started taking Risperdone 2 months ago (and DEpakote a bit earlier) for his first major Manic Episode with Psychotic features. And up until 3 weeks ago (when he actually agreed to increase the dose) he was somewhat psychotic, he hates me thinking I was his worst enemy etc...

12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...

Avatar f tn Hi, it seems based on your description of symptoms that she is having extrapyramidal syndrome. What are other drugs she is on? As this is due to side effects of some anti psychotic or anti vomiting drugs. Please consult doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Drugs like phenergan can control or treat these effects. Please visit website http://www.hubin.org/publicfamilyinfo/treatment/side_effects/side_effects_6_en.
Avatar n tn I've been experiencing alot of reflux type symptoms and have recently undergone endoscopy. The physician found no evidence of Barrett's but did find a nodule at the gastroesphageal junction. Biopsy came back benign. I'm scheduled for another in a couple of months to recheck status. I'm on Nexium 40 mg. which is helping with the reflux tremendously. Question is: Is it safe to continue Nexium on a long term basis? I only found info stating for short term use.
Avatar m tn psychotic depression can encompass a wide variety of symptoms. i treat people with "psychotic depressions" a lot. Depending on what symptoms people are experiencing, different medications will be used. People will often respond very quickly to antipsychotic meds (even within days). The deeper depressive symptoms may take longer to fully resolve but that does not mean you cannot get feeling much much better relatively quickly.
Avatar m tn There could easily be two issues going on, ocd and some form of psychotic disorder. And perhaps considering the way she is speaking, bipolar (especially mania as well and depression during the extended sleeping episodes) but two words sum it up: get help. She needs to see a psychiatrist immediately. She has cut herself off from the real world and considering what she has accumulated in the way of objects this has apparently gone on for a while.
