212161 tn?1599427282 Hello... I have asthma and take Flovent 2xday and used to take Combivent as needed. My Dr switched me from Combivent to Atrovent. With Atrovent, I find that it doesn't cause my heart to race as much as it did when using the Combivent.
1315759 tn?1274044788 the last time i went to the hospital, the therapist gave me atrovent and xopenex, with 4 doses in one. i told them it was making me too jittery, way more than normal and nobody listened. instead of getting better, it was staying the same and making me feel out of control. how can i get my doctor to prescribe me a pulse ox for at home? i am on medicad and medicare and i am sure that if he prescribed it to me, that they would let me have one.
Avatar f tn Albuterol actually does nothing for me. I'd get all the side effects with none of the benefits.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with COPD. I am using oxygen in addition to a Nebulizer four times per day. The oxygen is very helpful, but the use of the Nebulizer has made me feel worse. I develop a very rapid heart rate with the first use of the day along with extreme weakness. I don't feel well all day because I can't recover from the pounding heart rate and weakness before another session with Nebulizer is due. The two medications used in the Nebulizer are: Xopenx 1.
Avatar f tn i have had asthma my whole life but a few months ago i was told i have a psudo tumor (fake brain tumor). the docter told me i cant take any meds with staroids in them but all of my asthma meds do. I run for my college and its hard for me to decide do i want to go blind or do i want not to be able to breath. does anyone know any meds i can take that doesnt have steroids in them?
Avatar f tn The best and most affective inhalers are stimulants and will cause your heart to race. Anticholenergics like atrovent and Spireva have mild broncho dilating affects, but they are not nearly as good as albuterol or the long-acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). The best thing for you to do is to take controller meds on schedule as directed by your doctor limiting your need for the rescue inhaler. Feel better.
Avatar n tn I also understand that my reaction to albuterol-based medications is very unique. I am wondering if anyone has heard or met anyone with a similar reaction. I am wondering what it is and why I have that reaction. Thank you for any information you can provide me with.
Avatar n tn Last year I was diagnosed with Bronchectisis, put on an atrovent inhaler and take mucinex daily. Early December I started coughing more and started having pain in my right lung when I took a deep breath. Sometimes the pain is felt in my mid back area and on my right side in the ribs. The DR. took an x ray which showed a bronchectic infection in my right lung. I was put on 14 days of antibodics which took away the cough and green phlem that I always have.
1232362 tn?1333135406 However I am on FLOVENT inhaler and Albuterol inhaler as a rescue backup, and I use the albuterol only when I feel an attack coming on. So I basically keep it in my purse for security. The FLOVENT is very effective in my case. I too have had asthma for about 30 yrs. But have it under control. Please read my other posts concerning asthma on this site as I don't want to repeat myself but perhaps my advice listed can help you some.
Avatar n tn do NOT give the baby albuterol or pulmicort! my son is on atrovent as needed when he has his breathing spells. i have done HOURS upon HOURS of research on this and been through the ringer trying to get him thoroughly checked out. thank god we now have a good general dr, ent dr, and lung dr. he will need to have a ct scan of his chest, see a cardiologist and lung dr. my son also had a severe innominate artery compression of trachea upon ct scan. need ANY help let me know.
Avatar f tn When you turn the nebulizer, on exhale to the limit of possibility, then inhale from the nebulizer to the limt, take your mouth off the nebulizer and hold your breath as long as you can. Wait four minutes and do the same with two puffs of Atrovent (iatropium bromide). Atrovent (in some people) does not irritate the heart as much. The combination treatments reduce the incidence of tachycardia.
Avatar f tn Is there any other remedy that can help eliminate or lessen the amount of wheezing and congestion and coughing I have?? I have gotten back on track with my eating habits, so I am taking small baby steps but this coughing is just killing me.
920032 tn?1550680156 OH - I just assumed you were talking about the nasal spray Atrovent, but you could be using a neb or for now an MDI (will be off the market soon with the CFC ban). Which are you using? You could also try NasalCrom. That is an OTC nasal mast cell stabilizer which works really well. I hope that you get some relief and sleep soon.
Avatar m tn It is often treated with a drying nasal spray (like Atrovent) and antihistamines like chlorpheniramine and loratadine are effective. Nasal decongestant drops too relieve congestion. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. Regards.
Avatar n tn Several randomized, double-blind trials have demonstrated the therapeutic efficacy of subcutaneously administered omalizumab as add-on therapy in patients with allergic asthma.
Avatar f tn I do use Advair discuss for my Asthma (under control now) and Aerius daily along with Atrovent that my allergist gave me prescription for years now. Why is it bad to use a nose spray for long periods. If I don't I have post nasal drip all the time even out of allergy seasons. It's just been a really bad bad year for pollen in Quebec, Canada. Thanks for info again.
Avatar f tn Asthma is a combination of muscle spasms (the attacks) and chronic inflammation in the lungs. Atrovent and ventolin will help greatly with the muscle spasms but due nothing for the inflammation. You must have a medication to counter the inflammation or your lungs will continue to have issues. Good luck and hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn I am taking atrovent for asthma and i was wondering if i should be spitting out phlem after i take a treatment or does it just break the phlem up and i spit it out whenever?
Avatar n tn I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
Avatar f tn If this is the cause, it could be lessened with slower eating and smaller bites but you will probably need prescription medicine to get it under control.
Avatar f tn First, why are all these last dates in Nov? Is there any recent activity here, in this category? (hope so!--now it is!) I am an RN of 36 yrs and understand EKG's pretty darn well; however, now I experience couplets and PVC's daily. As the cardiologost said, unfortunately some people 'feel' theirs and I surely do! I feel weak at times, like hypoiglycemia makes one fell, plus this heat outdoors makes it worse for me.
1300043 tn?1272812819 Nicole - sorry I didn't see your original post, just read it now. GERD is very common with COPD and the reflux (even silent without the traditional heartburn) can cause significant coughing like you described. Perhaps you could try some OTC meds like Prilosec for 2-4 weeks and see if it helps..... Marji - COPD is a progressive disease. Albuterol is a 'rescue' inhaler to help with bronchospasm - which can happen with emphysema and asthma.
Avatar f tn I have a now 22 month old son who was diagnosed last season with what we presume is asthma based on symptoms. It seems to be viral induced. This season came around and sure enough, when he got a cold it went straight to lungs (wheezing, SOB, coughing) We started inhaled steroid (budesonide), albuterol regimen again. Proved unsuccessful to resolve cough. Round of Orapred proved unsuccessful to resolve cough. After four months we consulted with Pulmonologist.
Avatar f tn There are many degrees of asthma. The albuterol inhaler should be kept with you at all times, even if you don't have an episode for weeks. Albuterol sulfate should not be causing any serious side effects. Drowsiness is not a common side effect, although I suppose there are some people that have all kinds of oddball effects from medication. As Tammy2009 stated, proper use of the inhaler is important. Most people don't use the inhaler properly. Shake it.
