Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
976897 tn?1379167602 Forgot to mention. Simvastatin was chosen because it is now off patent, and is therefore now a much cheaper statin drug compared to the newer stronger varieties such as lipitor (atorvastatin).
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your reply. She has been off of the Atorvastatin for 6 days. She is still having memory/confusion issues, so tested her for UTI. She is susceptible to them and yes, she does have one. They are growing the culture and showing that it is not showing any sensitivities. They’ve put her on Cipro, just to have her on some sort of antibiotic. She’s usually very resistant to antibiotics for this. I’ve never seen her have such confusion. Any suggestions would be loved.
Avatar n tn I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Avatar n tn What is the statistic probability that Atorvastatin Ca will convert itself into his enantiomer? We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero. We would be appreciative to hear your opinion.
Avatar m tn She is not alcoholically person and never drink in her live. She has heart disease and take atorvastatin for 10 years and also donepezil and ladiomil for 4 years. Since her doctor discover problem with GOT and GPT she stopped taking atorvastatin (3mounts before) because they were suspicious that atorvastatin was reason for this problem but again GOP and GPT increase. Next step was cancer marker (CA19-9 = 34.4, AST = 5.47, CEA=3.22) and virus markers (HBsAg Es = 0.13 negative, Anti-HCV = 0.
Avatar m tn If the atorvastatin is keeping your triglycerides down, you will need to continue taking this medication for life, UNLESS, you can get the trigs down thru diet. I assume you tried this before being prescribed the medication. Your trigs are currently 1.48mmol/L which is below the limit required for safety (1.7). You are only taking a very small dosage of Atorvastatin, most people are on 40mg daily.
Avatar m tn ALNY) disclosed on Thursday the receipt of a US new patent under its McSwiggen patent estate for the advancement of RNAi therapeutics for the treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Avatar n tn Yes, a PFO can cause fatigue as the blood/oxygen level pumped into circulation may be compromised. More likely, the cause of being tired can be related to low blood sugar and anemia.
Avatar f tn I just came across the following reference regarding simvastatin and the PI's. Cholesterol-lowering medication is also contraindicated. “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?
Avatar m tn s primary care physician(PCP) did a repeat LDL yesterday and the value was 101. It was 115 last month. The PCP has prescribed Atorvastatin (5 mg) for 20 days. If my father has no side-effects in the 20 days, he was asked to take Atorlip for 6 months. My father's sugar and blood pressure values are normal. All other values in his lipid profile are normal.
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar f tn court has struck Baraclude from the patent list. The Bristol-Myers Squibb ($BMY) hepatitis B drug saw its composition of matter patent invalidated in a court fight with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries ($TEVA), which wants to sell its own version. The patent had been due to expire in 2015. It's unclear whether the ruling will expose Baraclude to immediate generic competition.
Avatar m tn He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not. 1->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18398457 2->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
