Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar n tn I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Avatar n tn What is the statistic probability that Atorvastatin Ca will convert itself into his enantiomer? We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero. We would be appreciative to hear your opinion.
Avatar m tn She is not alcoholically person and never drink in her live. She has heart disease and take atorvastatin for 10 years and also donepezil and ladiomil for 4 years. Since her doctor discover problem with GOT and GPT she stopped taking atorvastatin (3mounts before) because they were suspicious that atorvastatin was reason for this problem but again GOP and GPT increase. Next step was cancer marker (CA19-9 = 34.4, AST = 5.47, CEA=3.22) and virus markers (HBsAg Es = 0.13 negative, Anti-HCV = 0.
Avatar m tn If the atorvastatin is keeping your triglycerides down, you will need to continue taking this medication for life, UNLESS, you can get the trigs down thru diet. I assume you tried this before being prescribed the medication. Your trigs are currently 1.48mmol/L which is below the limit required for safety (1.7). You are only taking a very small dosage of Atorvastatin, most people are on 40mg daily.
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar n tn My mother has been put on Atorvastatin and within one week she has had extreme confusion and forgetfulness. This has been the only medical change. Is this a side effect from it and can they show up this quickly?
Avatar m tn He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not. 1->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18398457 2->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn 57 Male never on medication and gym rat. I have been on Atorvastatin 40mg since middle of March. It was prescribed by my cardiologist for slightly high cholesterol level 225. Along with BP Med Losartan 50mg. All of this started when I wasn't feeling very well one day in February and went to outpatient clinic. Since then I've had a heart monitor, CT scan of heart and angiogram. All normal except angiogram showed one 70% blockage.
Avatar m tn s primary care physician(PCP) did a repeat LDL yesterday and the value was 101. It was 115 last month. The PCP has prescribed Atorvastatin (5 mg) for 20 days. Avatar f tn Coadministration with potent inhibitors of CYP450 3A4 including telaprevir may significantly increase the plasma concentrations of certain HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors and their pharmacologically active metabolites that are primarily metabolized by the isoenzyme.
Avatar n tn I have never had trouble sleeping through the night -- until my doctor prescribed Lipitor (atorvastatin). My cardiologist tells me that I need a statin for my cardiac health, but now I only get 4-5 hours of sleep at night before I need to get up and pee. Than, I only get back to sleep about 1/3 of the time. Lack of sleep robs me of energy, and makes me irritable -- not good ! Does anyone know about the side-effects of other statins that I might take instead ?
Avatar f tn My dad who is 81 years old in India is on Citilin 500mg daily. The neurologist prescribed it after he had TIA number of times. He used to get seizures like symptoms and loose his consciousness. He was bedridden and stopped walking completely. Now, he is up on his feet and doing his regular work after regular physiotherapy. At first, he had trigeminal neuralgia and he was on carbamezapine 150mg twice daily and then 300mg twice daily. I just need to know how long he has to be on Citilin.
Avatar m tn I have polyneuropathy in both my feet which may have been caused by statin drugs I took in the past, but am not sure. Do statins cause neuropathy? A doctor recently prescribed Atorvastatin for me daily to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. I am 62. Is it OK for me to take this?
Avatar m tn I have had angioplasty done 5 months ago and now I am on heart related medicines Nitroglycerin, Clopidogrel+Ecosporin and Atorvastatin. I wear artificial denture. Last month I had surgery for cataract in my eye. My evacuation system is working fine, although sometimes I miss a day or two. I do not take any medication for this and the bowl movement becomes regular on its own. I want to know the reason for white coating on my tongue and the crack in it.
Avatar m tn Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a high-intensity statin and is prescribed to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. There are alternatives for Lipitor that may not show this side-effect. (i.e. rosuvastatin=Crestor) My advice is to contact the cardiologist ask ask him/her if it is possible to switch to an alternative.
Avatar m tn My Echo, Treadmil test is normal and borderline cholestrol(total-220, HDL 47, LDL 125, TGL on the higher side 330) so doc prescribed Atorvastatin 10mg and taking and now the levels are settled to very normal. When I met the cardiologist last week the BP was 160/95 and HR 84 BPM. The Doc also changed my med from Metoprolol Succinate ER 25mg to Bisoprolol 5mg once daily in addition to Losartan 25 in the morning. I am too scared to take the new med as I read 5 mg is equivalent to Metoprolol 100mg.
