Common Questions and Answers about Atorvastatin fenofibrate side effects

lipitor

Avatar f tn You don’t mention dose and you make no mention of any side effects. Both drugs in Rosvin F (statin and fibrate) are generally well tolerated. Neither are drugs one takes “for a month.” Rather, they are lifetime drugs that will keep you in tip-top CV health with more benefit correlating with duration of treatment. If you discontinue treatment, all your lipid levels will return to where they were (unless you have made HUGE lifestyle changes).
Avatar n tn The Fenofibrate can cause bloating indigestion, stomach pain, and increased liver enzymes or liver problems in addition to other side effects. The Zetia can cause some of these too. Have they tested your liver enzymes yet? If so were they normal? There are other drugs for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides that work as well. You can ask him to have you try Lipitor (generic) and there is now a generic Niaspan. I know because my husband is on it.
Avatar f tn In one huge survey, atorvastatin came out on top with the least side effects. Here is some info regarding your question which I found on the internet..... Atorvastatin 10mg reduced LDL by 30-40% = equivalent to 20mg Simvastatin Atorvastatin 40mg reduced LDL by 46-50% = equivalent to 80mg Simvastatin Starting doses for each of the two statins are ....
Avatar n tn I have used 10mg Atorvastatin for years with no side effects. The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
315318 tn?1353251800 I must say I was reluctant and so was my former cardiologist in recommending the combination because of possible side effects. So far my liver function has been OK and I will be continuing with the therapy.
Avatar f tn Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar f tn Please help me .My Serum Ige level is on the increase from 1150 to 1370 in just 3 weeks. I have hypothyroidism,I have high triglycerides 479 & cholesterol level 270.I have been prescribed Fenofibrate 200 mg for triglycerides & Zatofen 1 mg for serum Ige,but these medicines causing too many side effects back pain, knee pain.restless legs & insomnia. Please help.
Avatar n tn You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar n tn The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?
Avatar m tn since then i m taking the tablet regularly and now my trygleycerides level is 135 without any side effects. Please advise me whether i can discontinue taking this drug for some years to come or do i have to take it regularly life long.
Avatar n tn org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/statin-side-effects/art-20046013 This is an interesting read on statins. Some people have memory loss and others have improvement in their dementia. This is very patient dependent. Lipitor can take two week to offer the reduced cholesterol and cardiac risk that goes along with that. At one week, yes, side effects could emerge. So, please talk to her doctor. Let us know what they say.
Avatar m tn He also said since the normal dosage for Atorvastatin is 80 mg, he does not expect any side-effects with 5 mg. Given your experiences with your husband, kindly let me know your comments for the need for Atorvastatin at this time for my father and the potential for side-effects.
Avatar f tn "How can I be sure all these medications will flow with the others." Make a list of all your meds, your dose, and time of day/eve taken. Include all supplements and vitamins and any OTC meds like aspirin. Take this list to your pharmacist and ask for a "consultation". Ask about drug interactions and contraindications. If you want at home reading documentation, ask for pharmaceuticals.
315318 tn?1353251800 There are some issues when using a fibrate along with a statin but the side effect incidence when combining a fenofibrate and statin are extremely low. Being a diabetic is also an issue with the use of a fenofibrate as the combined therapy does not appear to be any more effective than a statin alone. You may want to ask your doctor about a less powerful statin than Crestor to use along with a fenofibrate, perhaps a generic Zocor (simvastatin) at the same dosage.
Avatar f tn Sorry, that should be Tricor :)
2206149 tn?1342693017 My mother is taking Atorfit 10 (Atorvastatin 10 mg) for 3-4 years now. I searched for its side effects online and found that it has a number of them starting from constipation, flatulence, diarrhoea, chest pain, nausea, skin problem and many more- all of which she has had in the last 2 years at some time or the other. And yes, there were also 2% chances of arthritis as well. This means that she has been getting the side effects of the drug.
Avatar n tn I would deff tell your doctor about that...
Avatar f tn I am on Gabapentin for the neuropathy, Prilosec for reflux and Fenofibrate for high cholesterol. If I stop taking one of these to see if it is causing the side effects, how long before I would notice an improvement?
Avatar m tn I have noticed since I began taking fenofibrate that I experience cloudy urine after I eat certain foods. It only happens the first time I uninate after eating these foods and becomes clear thereafter. It seems that it is triggered with creamy and greasy foods. Is there cause for concern? Thank you.

Avatar n tn Does anyone know about the side-effects of other statins that I might take instead ? Do some of them have less effect on bladder, or are they all problematic. I'm doing my part: I do not eat or drink for at least 2.5 hours before bed, I avoid alcohol, tea, and coffee. Any advice gratefully welcomed -- my cardiologist only cares about my heart, not concerned about my bladder and sleeping .... Thanks !
Avatar n tn s more of which one your body will tolerate the best. Different brands seem to show different side effects in many people. Lipitor in some women have produced breast pains or enlargement and even the manufacturers cannot explain that one. Still, I suppose it's cheaper than plastic surgery. Some statins cause abdominal pains in some people, or nausea or serious muscle cramps and even damage.
Avatar m tn Usually diet and exercise is the best first place to start, but with an LDL this high I would probably recommend starting a cholesterol lowering medication as well, such as a statin (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin). All medications have potential side effects, but the statins are relatively well tolerated by most people and your doctor should be watching for any dangerous side effects (which are rare).
