Avatar n tn I gave a comment here and the post shows I commented but I don't see it. Maybe it will show up some day but the website seems to be having a host of problems. Basically, carbs aren't all created equal, and calories are not your best source of tracking weight. Calories are one factor, but how well and how quickly you metabolize your food into sugar for energy is more determinative, as foods that turn quickly into sugar have to be burned off quickly or they store quickly as fat.
Avatar n tn Many dieticians feel that the extremely low carbohydrate count in the Atkins diet can lead eventually to heart disease because the diet is higher in fat than a normal diet with a balance of fruits and grains in addition to smaller portions of meat. So any extreme in diet may be less than ideal in the long run for overall health than the old-fashioned well-balance diet that diabetics are encouraged to eat.
451075 tn?1210258648 peekawho, Thank you very much for your input. I asked if I would be OK because I am only planning to do diet like this for about a month, to get very cut. I would like to have really good definition and my current fat is blocking the muscle I would like to shine through. I am 5'10", 169 lbs. and I would like to be about 162-165 lbs. So, I am shooting to lose about 4-5 pounds in a short period of time. The thing is, I am a healthy eater.
Avatar m tn I'd personally avoid Atkins -- or any fad diet, actually. Atkins has more research on it than any other diet because it was developed originally to prevent heart disease (the creator, Dr. Atkins, died of heart disease!) The research showed that the diet did not work in the long run and was unhealthy in the long run, as it's too high in protein and too low in antioxidant rich foods.
Avatar f tn s not something that most people can stay on long term. An overall healthy diet that centers on veggies, lean protein, low/no fat dairy and eliminates sugar and processed foods, including sugar, white bread, pasta etc is something you can maintain. It's not fast, but fast isn't healthy and will only result in further gain down the road.
5890854 tn?1377264632 SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE DOING GREAT! I WENT ON THE ATKINS DIET AFTER I HAD MY SON AND LOST ALL OF THE BABY WEIGHT (57 LBS) IN THREE MONTHS. I HAD SO MUCH ENERGY AND WAS NEVER HUNGRY BC YOU CAN EAT WHATEVER N THE HELL YOU WANT EXCEPT CARBS. IF YOU SWING BY THE ATKINS WEBSITE YOU CAN GET A FREE CARB COUNTER AND DIET PLAN... IT'S SUPER EASY AND THE WEIGHT JUST MELTS OFF. IF YOU HAVE ANY CHOLESTEROL PROBLEMS THIS DIET WOULDN'T BE GOOD FOR YOU BUT OTHERWISE I CANT PRAISE IT ENOUGH.
4054761 tn?1349368749 Diets like Atkins are not healthy, and typically result in all of the weight (and then some) being gained back when the diet is discontinued. It is not a change that can be maintained for life. For permanent, healthy weight loss, you'll need to make modifications that are sustainable. This means portion control, the eat less + sweat more equation, and not depriving yourself of things severely, which invariably leads to binges and nutritional imbalances.
594189 tn?1386916607 I am only on the diet till i get under 300 pounds or 4 months which ever comes first than I can eat more fruit again. I don't drink milk so not sure what else to look into on the dairy. I'm going to try low carb pizza too. I'm going shopping tonight. I'm taking prenatal vit, vit B6, metformin, vit C.
Avatar n tn I was getting sick everytime I ate, then I started juicing, now I get tired when I eat. and I have no clue?????????????
Avatar f tn The only other thing I can say is, be patient. My plateau lasted about a year, and had I given up, I would have had to start back at square one. It's better to "hold what you got" than it is to go back to gaining weight. Enjoy yourself and keep up the good work.
Avatar f tn I think any diet that cuts out certain foods or centers on only one food group will put a strain on your all of your body organs. Best to be safe with a reasonable plan that allows ALL of the basic food groups to help insure that you get adequate vitamins, minerals, etc.
Avatar n tn I used to be 120kg and two years ago I lost 30kg so my weight was 90kg.I was 90kg all this time I didn't take any more weight but lately I decided to lose 30 more and I wanna be 75kg by Christmas so after that I lose 15kg more.I started dieting on 10th August and today I am 86.4kg.But I can't lose more weight no matter if I reduce my portion or walk a bit more.Does anyone have solutions?
Avatar f tn s that could eat cereal for breakfast lunch and dinner. I think Atkins is a wonderful way of life but for me I just couldn't handle it for very long. I think this time around I might try calorie cycling. That way I can have a variety of foods but still (hopefully) maintain my weight loss. Has anyone had any luck with this diet? What other diets have you found successful after hcg? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Is it better to eat a low Carb diet or a low calorie diet..Isn't stuck between the 2,I need to lose72 lbs..n I don't want it to take forever to lose it.I also expertise 6 days a week for 1 1/2 hrs.Just confused about the two. Also I'M on 3 medications that cause weight gain. And I'M wondering as long as I do overeat will I still gain weight from these meds. Thanks Brenda!!
Avatar f tn Be patient and the weight will drop as the body is going through a necessary adjustment during this plateau period. I also lost a lot of weight on the Atkins diet. I started 9 years ago (my 2nd try with it)... went off last year (big mistake!) because the man that I was dating during that time didn't like watching me diet. So, I had gained some "dating" weight... but, fortunately, not a whole lot. I'm not dating that man anymore; so I'm now back on track with the diet.
Avatar n tn I see you have no knowledge on the Atkins diet and that you do consume carbs. Please do some research before making statements. Humans are omnivores! Some nutrients that can only be gotten from plants (like Vitamin C) and others that can only be gotten from animals. B12 is critical for life and isn’t found in any amount in plants (except some types of algae), it is the most important nutrient that vegans must be concerned with.
Avatar n tn I just want something that I can just buy if I am in a hurry and I will want to eat for lunch that I can pick up on my way to work.
Avatar f tn Here are some tips I posted on another thread some time ago.... Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. Restrict & avoid refined sugars, practice and adhere to weight control, do some sort of exercise daily, practice stress management, and get adequate sleep. These are all important in managing this illness, the most important, along with proper nutrition, is physical activity. Walking, not strolling, helps to lower blood sugar levels.
1054985 tn?1257173275 I was eating low carb when I was dx'd. I wondered if it was the diet that cause my Optic Neuritis! That was before I understood ON. I am back on low carb just to try and take care some of the bloating I have trouble with. I figured out if I give my injection in my leg rather than my stomach it helps some. At least my tummy is not sore!
Avatar f tn m diet controlled (for 2 years) so I have to be very mindful of what I eat and I had to learn what foods made my sugar spike. I NEVER recommend trying to eat a certain amount of carbs, I believe we should limit them as much as possible unless your sugar dips too low. Focus on eating as many leafy green veggies as possible. Drink lots of water. And try to limit your carbs cutting out bread, rice and sugar of course. Keep in mind some things that sound healthy are not actually good for diabetics.
