Avatar m tn What symptoms of a hangover are you talking about? If you're speaking of anxiety, that's most likely not a hangover, but rather the typical after effects of alcohol consumption. Taking Ativan for hangover symptoms would technically considered abuse of your prescription, since that isn't what it's prescribed for, and all around a bad idea.
Avatar m tn I dont avoid engaging in public speaking,i try speaking in public the least chance i get but very short statements.I did some few reading about beta blockers and i saw that it help relieve anxiety . i once complained to my Dr but He says is nothing to worry about.I was given vitamin B6 and Magnesium combined for tremors. If Beta blockers help with anxiety why does my heart races, voice and hand still shake in public activities like speaking and suturing infront of my classmates.
1183666 tn?1274275146 So, JESSiCA, we meet again! I'm glad to hear you're involved with a partner and a project, but I do understand your fear of public speaking. I'm positive the vast majority of us would rather streak through Wal Mart than get up in front of a group of people. (Would anybody notice us in Wal Mart? Somehow I think we'd just "blend!") I suppose there are a number of things you could try before it was your turn to be on stage.
Avatar m tn If it is really bad, I take a small dose of Xanax, and that calms me. I never took ativan. Good luck. Oh, Xanax does not effect my speaking, it just calms me abit. I don't slur or look like an idiot.
Avatar m tn I've been suffering from anxiety for many years now. I'm on Xanax and Aurorix. l take 0.125 Xanax only at night and 150 mg of Aurorix twice a day. This is after the discussion with my doctor. My anxiety is very much controlled. However, my anxiety becomes very bad when I become the center of attention. I dread public speaking but it can't be avoided sometimes. Do people with anxiety disorder dread the same thing as I do? Is it because I'm taking too little dose of Xanax?
Avatar f tn I thought so. This is common, and it's why people take public speaking -- to learn they can do it well and develop confidence. It's your decision to make obviously, but Americans have an awful habit of turning to pills for every little thing. I think you'll be fine, and if not, you'll get better, just as an athlete does; the whole point is to get better with practice.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Inderal for the public speaking and tried to deliver my speech, it was a disaster, racing thoughts, mind went blank, voice quivered, hands shook, jelly legs, etc. I may not have been on the right dose, because I have always had a very high tolerance. My question is what is the highest dose allowed.
Avatar f tn many people have a fear of public speaking. And remember anxiety and panic can come at the most inoppertune times even if we have previously been through the exact same experience panic free time after time. I also agree that you should not expect perfection and not be too hard on yourself. Just the fact that you get up there is something that you should give yourself credit for; that is no easy feat to accomplish in my opinion. Do you have other social situations that you get anxious in?
Avatar f tn stick with it coming of ativan is hard and should always be done slowly, but you have been of it for 3weeks, but I agree with cj talk to your doctor and tell him just how your feeling. good luck take care janis.
Avatar m tn There are self-help books available that will teach you many tips and tricks to deal with this anxiety. If possible, take a Public Speaking class.........I did and it was the best thing I'd done for myself at that time. I still got some anxiety beforehand, but I had learned so many ways to deal with it, believe it or not, public speaking actually became fun. One of the most important things I learned was to be totally prepared.
429209 tn?1224166589 course as needed is usually 2- 3 x a day and no more than that!
Avatar n tn I too take ativan. And as you , I'm taking .25mg. My prescription is 1mg. pills and to take as needed or 3 times a day. If I took 3 mg. a day, I'd be comatose! .25mg. sedates me enough. We are all different and even the doc's can't predict how we are going to be effected. The doc I have now tells me to take what I feel is good for me. Since I"m UNDER the prescribed dose. As long as I don't go over that. And I just take as needed. There are times when I need .
Avatar f tn Just a question you can ask yourself. Is there any proof I am dying? I am fit and happy and am working a good job. Just let these positive things sink in. They will push out the negative.
Avatar n tn I am sure you are aware that there are better medications for both migraines and anxiety and if not, that is something that should be discussed with your physician. The migraines can be much better treated by preventing them with newer anti-seizure medications such as Topomax or Depacote. Blood pressure medications can also be used to prevent migraines depending on the rest of your medical history. Anxiety should be treated with non-narcotic containing medications such as Xanax or Ativan.
400350 tn?1201711682 t comfortbale with the Ativan and perhaps something ELSE might be used. Or perhaps the doctor, based on the exam and your chart, feels you are at minimal risk for the bad side effects. The very good thing about putting medication questions and answers on this forum is that it means people are taking an active role in their own health.
Avatar f tn You may want to talk to a dr. about your symptoms. They seem to be panic/anxiety attacks. I know, I've been going through this for 9 yrs. See if dr. will prescribe you either Xanax, Ativan, or Klonopin. They are life savers for some people. I know it was for me. I started out with Ativan, then when I became immune to the Ativan, I tried Xanax, which is great for a quick fix. Now, I'm on Klonopin and have been for a month and a half.
Avatar m tn Benzos get such a bad rap. Sure they are addicting and dangerous but they work great for short term relief from serious panic disorder. I'm sick and tired of people giving these drugs such a bad rap. They are bad for people that abuse them and mix them with other drugs or alcohol. Stop trying to scare people away from them. I currently take xanax and it has zero interaction with zoloft 150 mgs I take daily. I take appx .
Avatar f tn t know how many ambien as well as some tylonol3 i think, on top of his regular meds of hydrocodone and morphine! AND HE is angry at me because I took all his meds away and throuhg the ativan away....we are both in recovery or at least I thought we were....I don't know the best track to take concerning this situation...right now he hates me.
Avatar f tn She is dedicated to public service and wants to do relatively low paying public interest law. Right now she is scooping ice cream for $8 an hour. Jobs are few and far between and there are 200 applicants for every position. She is living in the cheapest, run down no-bedreoom apartment she can find, doesn't turn on the heat, and eats mac and cheese. She has always worked extremely hard- and I am sure that she will eventually find a job that can pay her bills.
Avatar f tn The doctor told me that the stomach acids has gotten on my voice-box and caused it to swell. I'm a public speaker professionally and I sing in my spare time. At work I've just been doing alot of paperwork lately, how long do you think I should wait until I get back to public speaking and singing?
1549468 tn?1345468736 Both valium and ativan are used by some physicians as medications to reduce the probability of a seizure. In such a case the medication is not prescribed because the patient has psychiatric problems.
Avatar n tn I know what you're looking for and I personally don't feel comfortable giving any of this info on a public forum... The doctor you saw sounds like a wimp! He could tell you how to do this but he sounds irresponsible! He gives you Ativan and then doesn't tell you how to take it! GEEZ! Firstly, I've never heard the term "taper off alcohol".
Avatar m tn Xanax will do the job, but try it once before the day of your speaking. Always remember, almost everyone you're talking to is very happy that it's not them up there speaking and are envious of you! Be the first to laugh at yourself if you make a mistake and you will put everyone at ease. Good luck and take care.
Avatar f tn I took my .5 mg ativan and one benadryl for stuffy nose. Now wide awake and have to be up to work in 2 hours. Has this ever happened to anyone?? I also take my 12.5 zoloft in morning will this make me more jittery??
Avatar f tn First, don't take this if you're on medication targeting serotonin receptors, such as an ssri or snri. Assuming you're not on medication, the answer is, maybe, maybe not. The same answer you'd get if you went on medication. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. Second, 5-HTP isn't a vitamin -- it's an amino acid, a metabolite of L-tryptophan, which along with co-factors such as B6 (which is a vitamin) us used by the body to manufacture serotonin.
