Avatar f tn Vicki gave you some good advice about speaking with our Dr. The memory loss and confusion is very understandable taking ativan and going through wd. actually the ativan should be tapered. it is notorious for memory loss complete wipe out. usually through drinking with them but if you are dehydrated and coming off opiates it is very probable. Congratulations on getting clean and learning about your addiction and the meds that feed it. Take good care of yourself.
Avatar f tn Ask him about increasing the Zoloft and tapering off the Ativan. The Ativan can give you withdrawal and strange symptoms. Missing one dose does cause changes that you can feel. Good Luck. Please try not to be scared! Really there is nothing to fear here. You can try to get answers and you will find support on this site. You can taper off the Ativan, many people here have done it. So keep posting and let us know what is happening.
Avatar f tn They are both very addictive along with every other benzodiazepine(valium, klonopin, ativan, librium, xanax) with xanax the one thing that can make it worse is the fact that if you abruptly stop using it you can have a siezure depening on your dose and how long you've been taking it. But in the end ativan and xanax basically rank about the same in my opinion, but you should really contact your prescribing doctor to get their opinion.
433485 tn?1321813390 ativan and Klonopin. Thanks. I am seeing my pdoc on Nov. 11th and need to talk (again, so frustrating) about my meds. Prior to last week, I was feeling pretty good. I am also in pain management ( arthritis in back) and prescribed 10 mg. oxycodone ( 1 in am and 1 in pm). Please help as I need to know....thanks.
685321 tn?1230951152 Long term memory ( things we need to keep hold of ) and short term memory. But it plays out in a story like format. Latent content. The dream stuff that means nothing at all. But we also must look at the subconscious memory. Inside there we house our fears. We house things that we may have on our minds. Up coming events and the likes. It, again, all comes out as we sleep. So your worst fears might stay with you as you sleep. Create themselves into some kind of story.
Avatar m tn I have experienced this recently where thoughts that would be rapid and precise seem to be much slower and I am finding it harder to concentrate. I also feel as though my memory has been affected. The only med that I am taking is zolpedem for insomnia. Any way to reverse this trend?

Avatar n tn Johns Hopkins researchers who have been at the forefront of this field reviewed the evidence on short-term and long-term mental changes after bypass surgery. They found that short-term confusion, memory loss, and poorer problem solving and information processing are common after bypass surgery, but are usually temporary and reversible. Most people return to their pre-bypass level of function between 3 and 12 weeks after surgery.
Avatar m tn ve been having more panic attacks and depression is making it worse and I called my doctor and explained all this but only said to keep taking it for a few more weeks and the ativan that was prescribed to me as well but has not affect on me since I've been takin that for a while month now and still nothing from it that calms me. The affects from the paxil right now are chest numb no emotions and memory lost .
Avatar m tn I am taking Lamictal, Zoloft, Ativan and Wellbutrin for BP II and PTSD. I am having memory issues that are bothering me. Maybe since my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's this year (he's 78). Has anyone else had issues with memory while on these medications?
Avatar m tn i immediately felt dizzy, fuzzy headed ,weak and had memory and cognitive problems. i routinely take my resting pulse rate when i wake up(a habit i picked up from my younger athletic days) the morning after the tramadol,my resting pulse rate dropped from around 70 to around 60 and has stayed there. my symptoms have changed a bit over the last 5 months. im not as jittery, but i now get some palpitations.
636136 tn?1228644380 Benzodiazepines such as Klonopin, Ativan, and Xanax, are commonly used medicines. These medicines also cause sedation and thus can improve sleep. Possible side effects include depression and decreased memory. Sometimes it is hard to determine whether symptoms are due to fibromyalgia or are side effects of medication."depressants and muscle relaxants treat anxiety. Benzodiazepines such as Klonopin, Ativan, and Xanax, are commonly used medicines.
Avatar f tn I went to the funeral home and was overwhelmed with grief. I took 4 ativan 2 at a time about 2 hours apart. I was fine that night. the next day was the funeral, I never got out of bed. my husband said I couldn't talk, I couldn't walk I don't remember one single thing that day NOTHING. Next day I woke up I was fine except that I felt bad I missed the funeral plus I don't know what happend to me. Help I'm very concerned on why this happend.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Xanax for years now and have not found it to cause memory loss. Everyone experiences meds in a different way. Valium (diazepam), alprazolam (Zanax Ativan and clonazepam are all members of the same "family" with some "minor" chemical changes. I have found that OTC sleep aids often cause me to forget things. It's really frustrating not be able to remember what I said two minutes ago. IMHO, meds work best with therapy.
Avatar m tn but i always attributed it to being on a benzo for so long....i know that benzos (ativan, valium, xanax, etc.) definitely mess with your short-term memory.....i didn't realize that opiates could.....hmmmmmm....now i wonder....yes, another excellent reason to get off everything! i'm trying, but it is da**mned hard! only on day 4 here.....feel like i'm fighting a war every single minute of the day and night....
Avatar f tn and get a prescription for 1mg Ativan called in. Since Monday I have been taking 1 -2 a day as needed and boy has it helped!!!! I've taken Ativan sparingly in the last couple of years ever since I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer almost 2 1/2 years ago and I never got addicted. Mostly they just made me sleepy. My question is how long should I continue to take the Ativan and how long before my body will get used to it?
Avatar f tn I took my .5 mg ativan and one benadryl for stuffy nose. Now wide awake and have to be up to work in 2 hours. Has this ever happened to anyone?? I also take my 12.5 zoloft in morning will this make me more jittery??
Avatar m tn Modafinil will help you with your glutamate level which is the neurotransmitter implied in learning and memory and it will also keep you awake without disturbing your sleep pattern unless you are very sensitive to the drug. Please consider that I'm not a doctor and you should talk to a qualified physician before using any drugs mentioned above.
Avatar f tn put me on remeron for anxiety and depression and sleep,Im walking around in a fog my memory has gone and so bad anxiety,,sometimes my skin even burns,is this anxiety,,,,dr wants me off the ativan but i have been on benzos for 18 years and im afraid i cant do it any one else have severe anxiety and what kinds of odd symtoms do u get and do u feel like your losing your memory
1538831 tn?1294199202 benzos are not meant to be taken for long periods of time due to risk of dependence as well as the fact that your body will become accustomed to it and you will need higher doses to get the same effect. you should not be taking ativan for more than a month, i am not a doctor but i am relaying info my general MD and my psychiatrist have given to me. also ativan is a short acting benzo, you should look into starting clonazepam which is a longer lasting benzo.
Avatar f tn I started 5 mg Celexa 5 days ago and the doctor gave me .5 mg Ativan for just in case. My question is how long until the Celexa starts working? If I use the Ativan too often will it effect how the Celexa works? How hard are these to come off of?
Avatar n tn i have never been on either of them, but my mom takes valium and she is a zombie, and my grandmother takes ativan, and she can still fuction without shaking and anxiety... i hope i helped you.
Avatar m tn Okay, well how are you directed to take them both? Is one as needed, both as needed, and if so, how do you know when to take which? Do you take one of them regularly? It's pretty uncommon to be prescribed two short-acting benzos concurrently. The equivalency between the two meds isn't an exact science, but per equivalency charts, approximately 0.5mg of Xanax equals 1mg of Ativan, so the Xanax is roughly twice as potent, mg to mg. Again, not an exact science.
Avatar m tn What symptoms of a hangover are you talking about? If you're speaking of anxiety, that's most likely not a hangover, but rather the typical after effects of alcohol consumption. Taking Ativan for hangover symptoms would technically considered abuse of your prescription, since that isn't what it's prescribed for, and all around a bad idea.
Avatar f tn I think the headache was from something else and not the ativan. Woke up this morning with no headache and took .25mg of ativan and no headache. We'll see what happens later today.... I'm a bit sedated right now on just .25mg. too.
1181804 tn?1333402805 OK. I struggled with my opiate addiction so much that I never fully realized how physically addicting I was becoming to ativan too. The doctor who helped me wean off the percocets by putting me on suboxone and then slowly wean me off those over a one year period told me that I can't be on ativan while on suboxone. Well, my Primary Care had put me on the ativan (.5 / 2 X a day- but I took more when I "needed" it.......
