Hello there, Ativan can lower your blood pressure and anxiety can increase your blood pressure i think the problem is related to anxiety. The relation is anxiety and not Ativan. ''my anxiety has been pretty bad to the point of taking 2 or 3 pills a day.'' thus affecting your blood pressure. Please consider that i'm not a doctor and you should see a doctor about that since a constant 140/88 blood pressure is borderline to the need of a medication to lower your blood pressure.
I would suggest going to see a Cardiovascular specialist. I, also, have had problem with high blood pressure and having to go to the ER. I am 26/male and I had to go to the ER twice for 170/115ish BP readings. They will probably take some hormone blood studies and if anything, involving the hormones, looks out of place they will probably forward you to an Endocrinologist.
I discussed my resting after bowl movement with someone not a doctor and he said that it maybe little high blood pressure and it goes down after bowl movement. Is this possible? Also does probiotic supplements increase or decrease blood pressure. Probiotics claim they reduce high blood pressure. I am getting mixed information from what I have searched on web. About.com says it can also increase chances of sepis- blood infection and diverticulitis. I don't know if this is true.
I have put this worry of blood pressure on the back burner for almost 5 years now and just recently the worrying about it came back to where I am scared that I will get myself worked up-get my blood pressure up- and the What If's start-what if I get my blood pressure up and lose my mind and think it I am supposed to get all worked up and don't know the difference. I know this sounds silly to some people but it is worry I am really scared about.
Just before thanksgiving I went to my doctor and he said my blood pressure was a little high 130/90. A few days later my heart was racing out of my chest. I went to a walk in and they said it was anxiety, gave me ativan and told me I would feel better in the morning. Next morning same thing-heart rate around 120. This went on for a few days until I felt pain in my jaw, chest and numbness in my left arm.
Hi It's having my blood pressure taken. I have what people call the white coat syndrome. You would like since I work in the medical field I wouldn't have this but I do. I have had this problem ever since I had my second son. So now whenever anyone wants to take my blood pressure it goes up. I was in the dentist office yesterday going to have an implant put in my mouth so they took my pressure and of course it was high.
I started at a low dose of .5mg and took them only at bedtime and took Suntheanine during the day and lemon balm. Then after about a month I quit the Lorazepam. No one said to taper at all. Suddenly I wasn't able to sleep a wink and didn't know why. The Dr. should have given me a different sleep aid or told me it would go away eventually, but he increased the dosage to 1 mg. at bedtime. I needed sleep so bad that I used them & became unable to sleep w/out them. Then my Dr.
Add to it the high stakes element of failing the academy medical exam, and the pressure goes higher. Ativan can reduce your anxiety and only secondarily reduce your blood pressure. You have to break this obsession cycle before you can find out whether you have high blood pressure or not. You might take your doctor up on the beta blocker idea.
Did they run a fasting plasma free metanephrines blood test to rule out pheochromocytoma? Did they do a holtor monitor? Did they do orthostatic blood pressure and pulse rates? Did they do a tilt table test to check for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (P.O.T.S.)?
ok so im 17 im in perfect shape i work out everyday play bball i was a boxer for a while and i eat extremely healthy for the most part (no caffine) and i have bad anxiety i take ativan for it and i can be stressed sometimes, i have PACS but very benign and i had tons of test done on my heart, my BP is often reading 140/60 to 70 and that top numbers high, it takes me tons of time to relax and get it down to 120/55 but it worries me that my top number gets up there like that at this age, am i in
I know with alcohol, your blood pressure goes up too high. They give you blood pressure pills to get you through. Not sure about benzos, but probably something similar. Opiates will not kill you, but you will wish you were dead. Cold turkey is a bad plan with benzos. I am currently being real careful with my Xanax intake because I don't want to deal with that, but on the other hand it is the only thing keeping me sane right now.
Also been constantly checking my pulse because i have high blood pressure and it always seems to be higher when my anxiety is bad. How do i stop thinking about my health and blood pressure, and stop racing thoughts that cause this unreality, without ativan?
In high state of anxiety like the one I live now (severe anxiety with weird symptoms daily like headache, jaw pain, pins and needles in the left side of the body, chest pain, low pulse rate with high blood pressure OR fast pulse rate, palpitations, chronic fatigue, pain all over my body, weird scalp toutching feeling, constant dizziness and depersonalisation....), benzo are not working at all... and can't tolerate the antidepressant meds anymore... I seem to be med sensitive now...
I HAVE NORMAL READINGS OF BLOOD PRESSURE AT HOME WHEN IN A RELAXED FRAME OF MIND BUT i GOT A HIGH READING AT THE DOC. OFFICE A YEAR AGO AND THE NURSE SCARED ME,saying are you feeling okay your reading is high, I totally panicked.
This morning I woke up after not sleeping much with a feeling of dread and took it and my pulse was OK but my blood pressure was still 145 over a bottom number I can't remember but it was OK (70s or 80s). Last night was even stranger in that my top number was 145 but the bottom had gone down to something in the 60s. I am going to make an appointment with a cardiologist on Monday but I am worried I am not safe until then.
It took a month and a half for my allergy sympton to clear, the hives and swelling and burning feeling. Because of this I am stressed out and anxious, adding to the high blood pressure. Any solution to this problem anyone? Please share!
I'm guessing the doctor gave it to you because the anxiety is causing the high blood pressure. I would consider talking to him about taking Ativan (Lorazepam) or Xanax (Alprazolam) instead, though.
Any tranquizer will lower your blood pressure but if its high you should also be on a blood pressure pill. I am on atenolol with a water pill.
hello, when my new i got in march put me on xanax from ativan he had me do no taper and i had been on ativan a year.......
I think the best person to ask if these meds are causing high blood pressure would be your pharmacist. Your Dr should now if this is a side effect too.

After about a week, I visited the ER and had blood tests, another EKG, and a chest XRay. The other thing that came out of this was that the level of whatever released thyroid into my body was high however my actual thyroid level was normal. After approximately 2 weeks of the lightheaded feelings, I visited my family physician who has placed me on Ativan to see if the reduction of anxiety would help the situation. It really hasn't.
When the panic start, I had the blood pressure monitor on me and the machine start and took my blood pressure and to my big surprise I had a blood pressure of 130/115 !!! Although anxiety and stress can give you the symptoms of dizziness as too can stomach problems, there are other reasons for feeling dizzy too. Blood pressure that is too high or too low can cause dizziness, urinary tract infections, ear infections, having problems with your neck. As you are also experiencing weakness in the arm and heart problems have been ruled out, I would suggest that you should get imaging tests done (xray) on your neck.
i have controlled high blood pressure for 10 years, i have been very stressed for a month. thursday i went to the store and had a panic attack, i didnt feel right, any way, for a day and a half my bp was rangeing from mid 140's to 127 over 94 to 82. went to dr. had a panic attack there..bp went to 120/120 in a few min down to 120/110 by the time i got home with beta blockers and took one its been rangeing at low 120/70. i still feel very nervouse that there is something wrong.
like labor contractions without having a break between the waves. The pain in my head was pressure-like and seemed to be stronger in my right side and it included my jaw and ear on the right side. I have NEVER felt this before and the strength of the pain was off the charts. It made me cry and taking breaths was hard to accomplish due to the pain. Due to not being able to take decent breaths, I could not call out to my mom.
I was so unbelievably shakey and jittery and started having panic attack after panic attack. ER gave me an IV and my heart rate and blood pressure was a little high. They admitted me for 2 nights. They started me on a slow taper. They administered 2mg through my IV the first day and then gave me 2mg per day to take until 2/21. From 2/22- 2/26 I am to take only 1 mg daily and then from 2/27-3/2 I am to take .5mg and then I go to nothing once again.
