Avatar f tn Just looked it up, PPI 668 is a NS5a inhibitor (in the same class of DAAs as BMS 790052/Daclatasvir) Do you know, Is the Presidio trial only using 668 with no other DAA or Ribavirin?
Avatar f tn Ive had HCV for 38 years. I've not done protocol as decided by dr. & myself. Over the past 6 years I've had bouts with upper GI disturbances. (Am in process of finding a new hepatologist). Jan ,2014- May, 2014 persistent nausea & 16 lb weight loss. Barrett's oesophagus was discovered on endoscopy. A PPI is recommended to help acid reflux & in research I see they can be quite harmful to liver, which already has expected changes: arterial shunts, bridging, varicies etc.
Avatar m tn I lost about 10 pounds and have changed my diet drastically, but was wondering if I should double up on my ppi or possible try another one that would help me better??
Avatar f tn My doctor, whom I consider an able physician, has repeatedly assured me of the safety of the PPI class of drugs. Even said her 9 year old daughter was on Protonix. After learning of the latest warnings of these drugs, increased risk of fractures, inablility to fight certain types of bacteria, etc., I really wanted to go off of this drug. I have not been able to do so, as the pain interrupts my sleep and with fragmented sleep I am a zombie the next day.
Avatar m tn I have been experiencing heartburn for three months and the symptom got better after taking PPI. I have stopped PPI for about a month because of the side effects. I still feels only minor heartburn, no any other general symptoms of gastritis such as black stool, vomiting with blood, etc. Since I am not insured currently, I am hesitating to go to see medical attention. Do I need to be checked with gastroscope for my stomach condition?? Or, does it just take some time to get fully relieved??
2046312 tn?1360379600 The interaction has also been reported with atazanavir/ritonavir. A case series describes three patients who experienced excessive opiate effects of buprenorphine during concomitant antiretroviral therapy with atazanavir, ritonavir, and various nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Two of the patients had been on their antiretroviral regimen for several months and reported doped-up feeling, dizziness, and feeling high following initiation of buprenorphine 8 mg/day.
Avatar n tn I do know someone who took it twice a day for a long period of time. She told me the lining of the small intestine was damaged. One other thing to keep in mind is malabsorption issues. It's something you'll want to consider with your supplement schedules. For instance, during the periods of time when I find it necessary to take the PPI short term for the GERD, I keep this in mind when I'm taking my B12 supplements. B12 is very important, because the stomach processes B12.
Avatar f tn I have GERD for about 7 years now. I've tried every PPI on the market and had all tests done. Dr says I have high acid level and my stomach and esophagus is inflamed. For the last week, I have a burning sensation in my abdomen (intestines) and bad heartburn. Also, I have a lot of phlegm in my throat.
1295419 tn?1276822872 She said that after I am off of the PPI for 3 months, we will do an endoscopy to check for any damage and if any is found, we will do a PPI long term. I had my Barium Swallow this week. I was told it was "normal" and to stop taking my Dexilant until I get my Endoscopy in a few months. The report said "Minimal amount of reflux in the supine position which was not able to be duplicated".
6820012 tn?1385089216 I am confused with an article I read about the inhibition of the antiretroviral medications when in PPI (proton pump inhibitor) medication. I was diagnosed with an hiatal hernia a long time ago, since then, I being taking Lanzoprazole (PPI medication) to treat my condition. Three month ago I started Truvada as PrEP (pre exposure prophylaxis). My concern is, How effective is Truvada to preventing me to acquire an HIV infection?.
Dog Nexium, is the first proton pump inhibitor (PPI) synthesized as an optical isomer to become available for clinical use. Nexium is approved for the healing and maintenance of erosive esophagitis, for symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and for use in combination with antibiotics to eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in patients with active or prior duodenal ulcer disease. Protonix is a gastric proton pump inhibitor (PPI), available in oral and intravenous formulations.
690060 tn?1247841741 I tried to copy and paste the second article you referred ot "Cardiologists shocked by a new FDA alert on clopidogral-ppi interaction," but was unable to access it. Could you tell us what it says? (Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi, mild gastritis can feel extremely uncomfortable. Technically it's only serious if it continues on to develop ulcers or polyps. Gastritis can be managed through medications like H2 blockers or Proton pump inhibitors (PPI). Your doctor will suggest a course of action. Most of the time PPI's are only meant to be taken a short period of time. The best way to manage any pain and nausea is to change your diet.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response. I have not been experiencing any more symptoms since I changed the time of my last meal of the day. I believe it was my diet. Thanks.
Avatar m tn The first is to perform 24-hour pH testing to determine whether the PPI is ineffective or if a disease other than GERD is likely to be present. If the PPI is ineffective, a higher dose of PPI may be tried. The second option is to go ahead without 24 hour pH testing and to increase the dose of PPI. Another alternative is to add another drug to the PPI that works in a way that is different from the PPI, for example, a pro-motility drug or a foam barrier.
Avatar f tn Most of the time I can even do without the PPI meds. I still do use them, but I prefer to try to do without them. Long term use of PPI meds is just not something I want to do on a regular basis if I can control this with the necessary changes in the diet. I do agree with the above post that one should be wary of some of the home remedies.
