Avatar n tn I've followed this research, and from what I've learned the drug interaction of Plavix and PPI's (proton pump inhibitors) is not not that strong. I doubted the report from the start as I took Plavix and PPI's and my blood was as thin as tea, I bruised very, very easily, and the blood tests to determine my clotting factor wasn't changed by taking the two drugs.
Avatar n tn Ive only heard of proton pump inhibitors reducing the effect of Clopidogrel (plavix) but only by a tiny amount. I do have to question though if Zantac is a proton pump inhibitor anyway? Isn't it just a H2 receptor blocker?
Avatar n tn Long term use of proton pump inhibitors to treat acid reflex and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) may increase the risk of osteoporosis and hip fractures, according to a Canadian study published in 2008. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) block the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. The study, which included 63,000 Canadians over the age of fifty, studied prescription records and medical records amongst other factors.
Avatar n tn I've had on-and-off mild nausea, including two episodes of vomitting. To check for possible gallbladder problems I had an abdominal ultrasound. The report showed a normal gallbladder but "inhomogeneous pancreas". The doctor has ordered amylase, lipase, and liver function blood work. I have been on proton pump inhibitors for years for GERD and eosiniphilic esophagitis. It's weeks before I can see the gastroenterologist.
Avatar n tn The device decreased exposure to esophageal acid, improved reflux symptoms, and allowed cessation of proton-pump inhibitors in the majority of patients." Support for this study was provided by Torax Medical.

Avatar m tn Hi, Increased acid reflux per se is not supposed to cause increased frequency of micturition but the drugs used to treat the acid reflux like prilosec, nexium which come under the category of proton pump inhibitors can cause increased frequency of micturition. I sincerely believe that helps. Please do keep me posted. Warm Regards.
Avatar n tn This is because lansoprazole and other proton pump inhibitors weaken the bones and have been linked to the development of osteosteoporosis. People who are at higher risk for sustaining such injuries are those who take higher doses of this medication and those who take this medication for one year or longer. Also, people who are 50 years of age and older are also at risk of sustaining similar injuries.
Avatar f tn If Ondansetron is not helping there are other drugs like antacids and proton pump inhibitors that can give relief. You can ask your Doctor for a change of prescription. Avatar m tn My voice is a little hoarse at times, in particular after I read to my children for a while. Proton pump inhibitors for 10 days and anti histamines do not seem to help much... Other than that I eat, swallow and breathe fine. I have had fasciculations in the past that are much reduced now, but that's how I was told of ALS and possible (limb and bulbar) onsets. Do the throat issues above sound like possible bulbar onset? I was told that throat issues can be indicative of weakened muscles.
Avatar m tn I started eating many smaller meals per day, becoming aware that chewing my food better I use less water and that means less stomach acid, and Proton Pump Inhibitors and I went our separate ways. I went to lunch with my mom and my sister. My great nephew who has GI problems had just tested positive for some bacteria, I told my sister H. Pylori, I told her I knew of it's existence and that it's a bacteria but since I tested negative for H.
Avatar m tn Even though my tests were normal, he says that sometimes tests can miss pancreatitis, plus, the proton-pump inhibitors he has prescribed seem to do little or nothing. He says that if my pain was caused by acid reflux, the proton-pump inhibitors should fix the problem (same with ulcers). He feels that pancreatitis might be the only other explanation for my pain. The lack of any definitive diagnosis, however, is driving my nuts.
