595417 tn?1222819446 As far as the dr that will prescribe armour, you can go to stop the thyroid madness website and check their physician locator for armour prescribing drs. I think the armour website has the same type of locator. Also on one last note: Did you have all the tests done for autoimmune thyroid disease? Do you have hashi's? Did you have a free t3 and free t4 test done with your last tsh?
Avatar f tn My pharmacist told me that she had heard Armour was going to stop being made sometime during 2013. I could not find anything on the Armour website. Is there an alternative brand that is essentially the same thing that anyone can recommend to me?
Avatar f tn Another good website, very helpful with 'the switch' is www. tpa-uk.org.
908150 tn?1243182960 I have been working on getting control of my thyroid religiously for 2 years now due to all the terrible symptoms I was having. Avatar f tn Just so you know-Armour was reformulated last year and recently the other U.S. desiccated brand (Nature-Throid) has followed. These meds have changed their fillers and binders and some here have had issues with the new formulas. My daughter was born without a thyroid gland. We are now using Canadian Erfa desiccated thyroid and doing well. It is like Armour's old (good) formula, before reformulation. If you decide to go with desiccated-then you should talk to the N.P.
393685 tn?1425812522 Here is the information I received today from both RLC labs ( the makers of Naturethroid) and the FDA. YES!!! - I really talked to a live person with both of them:) Now remember - this is ONLY the most up to date information I have. It sounded a bit hairy on the phone with the FDA - but I'll explain below. First - both organizations were the best people I have spoken to in a long time. 1. RLC labs....... "There is NO ceasing of desiccated thyroid medication.
Avatar f tn Hi Marigaux! Yes, try the Armour, but also be aware that you may be one of the people, like me, who needs more T3, and therefor must add Cytomel to the Armour dosage. Armour stopped working for me this week, and I figured out on my own by research, that I could possibly need T3, and started taking Cytomel 25 mg Am and 25 mg PM with my 3 grains of Armour, and IMMEDIATELY felt better. This could be your situation, as well.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar f tn First - thyroid supplementation is for an underactive thyroid, bot an overactive thyroid. Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar f tn I am on Armour Thyroid.. I have been on for 8 weeks now. How long does it take to start to feel any better? I have been up and down. I am currently on 60mgs of Armour. 30 in the morning and 30 by 1pm. I just had labs done last week to see where I am number wise.. I was on Synthroid but didnt take. I was on 88mcg. What is that equivalent to with the Armour? Could I be in the right dose? Looking forward to making some new friends that can relate!
Avatar f tn After pratically begging my Doctor to switch from Levothyroxin to Armour, he finally wrote a script for it. I'm saying up front that I was taking 125mcg of Levothyroxin an i'm miserable. My dad takes Armour and he said he would never go back to synthethic. My dad has absoutely no Thyroid and is currently on 2 grains of Armour.
798555 tn?1292787551 So this often requires the addition of a source of T3 to their med, or a switch to a desiccated type like Armour Thyroid, NatureThroid, NP Thyroid, etc. About the only difference among the T4 meds is the amount of fillers, binders, and dyes used in some. Some people find that certain brands affect them. As for what is a better medication, I expect that you will find it easier to reach target levels of FT4 and FT3 by using a desiccated type.
Avatar f tn Well....straight from Armour Thyroid....NP Thyroid is NOT a generic of Armour, although pharmacists think it is! I was told by Armour's pharmacist that there is NO generic for Armour...just FYI. When I tried to locate it here in Ohio, initially the pharms couldnt find it, I kept saying Acella....finally they looked under NP thyroid or just thyroid, manufactured by Acella, and there it was.....
Avatar f tn Supporting the adrenals should be an ongoing thing for a thyroid patient. Especially since you recently went back on Armour. Your neurologist is not going to understand this most likely. You can start supporting your adrenals by taking a good Vit B complex twice a day. (I would take a liquid for easy absorption) Also important for the adrenals is Vit C (I take 3,000 mg per day), and you can also find an adrenal adaptogen which does not contain any stimulants.
Avatar f tn I am pretty new to the hypothyroid condition (I have autoimmune Hashimotos) I have read non-stop about thryoid conditions and the drugs prescribed for it over the last 3 months. From what I have read T4 only does not often alleviate the symptoms and many people spend years with their symptoms regardless of the dosage they are taking. The drugs may produce "blood test results" that doctors like to see - but the symptoms are still there or become worse. I needed T3, and I knew it.
Avatar f tn I recently told my doctor and he switched me to armour thyroid medication... Does anyone know if this will help with some of my weight gain and my chronic fatigue ...it is becoming unbearable... Sometimes there are days I'll sleep the WHOLE day!!! Not even waking up to realize...I'm always late for work...etc... If anyone can give me advice or tips on armour and if its better then synthroid please tell!!!
Avatar n tn Has anyone had bad effects on Armour? I started a month ago(first time on thyroid meds) and initially felt great but then insomnia, heart palpitations started. I skipped my period. At first I lost weight and now I'm gaining weight even though I've weighed the same for most of my 48 years. I feel like I'm swelling and am very uncomfortable, like I'm going to pop out of my skin. Would love to hear from anyone who's experienced this or has any ideas??
Avatar f tn s the difference between OTC thyroid supplements and Armour? Are thyroids processed differently? I thought the thyroid itself is a gland, so how can the stuff in an OTC supplement be glandular but not contain much thyroid hormones?
Avatar n tn Perhaps the Armour is putting too much strain on your adrenals. Adrenal dysfunction must be addressed first before thyroid dysfunction is addressed. Situations like this should be monitored closely by your doctor/endocrinologist who may have to test you for adrenal fatigue/insufficiency. If this is not ruled out, then depression, anxiety, irritability and all the symptoms of adrenal fatigue will wreak havoc.
Avatar n tn yes, I was taking levothyroxine and had the same issues. I switched to dessicated thyroid (thyroid NP or Armour) and have not had the problem since. Google them and you will find a lot of info or check out *************************....good luck!
Avatar m tn Armour changed again? Stop the thyroid madness website seems to think so, but its just an opinion so far I think. I did not know they made a 240mg - that a lot.
Avatar n tn Since I do not have insurance and I am currently only paying $4 for my thyroid meds, is the Armour very expensive? Is it difficult to find? If it will help to alleviate my miserable symptoms, I'm sure it will be worth it. One question about the magnesium citrate. Does it relieve all of the bloating where I can wear my clothes again? I'm currently taking Gas X and it does not seem to be working. I've also been exercising (doing crunches) and see no results.
