Armour thyroid vs synthroid dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid vs synthroid dosage

armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn I would like to know who out there has been on my same dosage w/Synthroid and what dosage are you on w/ Armour? I know everone is different. The only symptom I have that is different, is I have a deep hunger in my stomach that wakes me up at night and is almost painful (painfully hungry). I am still tired.
Avatar f tn What would be the determining factor for prescribing armour thyroid vs synthroid (and maybe cytomel)? I appreciate your help very much. It seems like it has taken forever to get the right dosage and help.
Avatar f tn I have no idea about all the ins and outs of Synthroid vs. Armour. I know that people sometimes have better results with one and then sometimes the other. In my case I found that even though taking a large dose of Synthroid (200mcg), I never became symptom free because my body was not converting T4 very well. When my doctor confirmed this by checking free T3, she decided to change my meds to a T4/T3 combination. I started feeling better very shortly thereafter.
Avatar m tn 150mcg is about equal to the grain dosage of Armour you are on but it is lacking the T3 - Armour has. We have a ratio scale here in our Health Pages on the Armour ratios - vs- synthetics you can read. Usually someone that takes a desiccated thyroid at 90 mg and is about to change to syntheic will look at a dosage of T4 Synthroid at .112mcg and then add Cytomel T3 with the Synthroid at about 10mcg. That is pretty close to the ratios you are use to with Armour.
Avatar n tn Of course you know that Synthroid is T4 and Armour is a mix of T4 and T3 in a ratio of abut 4.2 to one. Whether this is the only reason for Armour being sometimes more effective is a long discussion. Taking a med that contains T3, you can expect an increase in the levels of total T3 and also free T3 in your blood. Since free T3 is the most active thyroid hormone, it largely regulates metabolism and other symptoms.
Avatar f tn How many of you out there are taking Synthroid everyday for their thyroid disorders? How many on Levothyroxine? Notice any difference between the two?
Avatar f tn I have been having no lucky in the past year absorbing my thyroid (synthroid) medication. They now want me to go up on my dosage from 900mcg's to 1,800mcg's, and I heard that is a very lethal amount. My TSH level is over 100 and my T4 level is .3 I think. What about other thyroid medications like Armour or cytomel? Need your opinion!
Avatar f tn she said my levels were like i still had my thyroid...so she increased my synthroid from 100 mcg to 125mcg. I showed her a pitcure of the rashes and my hair loss. and she said she didnt know why i was lossing my hair she referred my to a demrotogist...um no i told my docotor im not going to see her because there is nothing wrong its the meds!!! She ran a bunch of tests and in the between time i started taking a boat loads of vitamins....then the results are back everything came back great!
410801 tn?1220119445 Hi, i have been reading so much on Synthroid VS Armour, and i am tempting to switch to Armour myself.. before making that decision, I wonder, how many of us, who are on Synthroid, and are happy. we probably heard more negative feedbacks, and there might be plenty of us are happy with Synthroid?
Avatar f tn I was on 75mcg of synthroid and was put on 60mgs of armour to start.....I am now on 75mgs of armour. I had gone a little hypo though. What were your latest test numbers? Did your dr run your Free T3 as well? Do you have hashi's?
Avatar n tn I was just wondering what dosage of Armour Thyroid other Hypothyroid patients were on? I understand it can be somewhat difficult to establish the correct dosage. I have read some patients started at 15mg while others started at 60mg but not what dosage they ended up with or how long it took them to arrive at an adequate dose. I was also wondering about the 'empty' stomach recommendation.
Avatar f tn s the difference between OTC thyroid supplements and Armour? Are thyroids processed differently? I thought the thyroid itself is a gland, so how can the stuff in an OTC supplement be glandular but not contain much thyroid hormones?
Avatar m tn After my TT and conclusion that no RI was needed they took me off the cytomel and put me back on Synthroid .150 mcg. That is what I was on before the surgery. So, they said to give it 12 weeks and then they would rerun the labs and see how my body has adjusted. I feel very "heavy" if that is a good way to describe it. I am kind of bummed I have to wait the 12 weeks to find out where my body has settled with the current dose and no thyroid anymore.
596383 tn?1219606396 hi, the simply put, the frees show how your body is responding to the medicine. I wouldn't worry about "piggy" hormones unless you are a vegetarian. Armour or synthroid really has to be a personal preference. Synthroid caused to many complications for me. If you do decide to go to armour, I would advice you to titrate up. It will give your body a chance to adjust to the T3 and also to split your dose in to at least 2.
Avatar f tn It sounds like your doctor might not know a lot about Armour - first off, synthroid is prescribed in mcg; Armour is prescribed in mg. Synthroid is a T4 only med, Armour has both T4 and T3 and contains much more T3 than humans, typically, produce. Additionally, T3 is fast acting and doesn't stay in your system very long, so it does need to be split into multiple doses i.e usually 2, during the day in order to keep FT3 levels stable.
Avatar n tn If one would switch from Synthroid to Armour thyroid, What is the amount of armour to the amount of synthroid one is taking. Is there a formula to use to get the dosage.
Avatar f tn What were your thyroid meds and dosages before the change? Do you split your Armour dosage and take some in the morning and the rest in the afternoon? Did you defer your morning meds until after the blood draw for those tests?
Avatar f tn Oh my that is a small dosage to start at when you were at 100mcg of synthroid. I was on 75 mcg and was put on starting dosage of 60mg of armour. No wonder you are having muscle twinges. You should definately be increasing every 2 weeks so you don't suffer hypo symptoms. See our armour thread we have going where a bunch of us are!
Avatar f tn Thank you for responding. I have been on Armour for 3 years and have had body aches for most of them. My labs fall into the normal range so the doc left me at the 60 dose. It didn't occour to me that it might be hypo until last week so I upped the dose and feel much better. Would the labs be different for Armour and Synthroid? I've been a thyroid person for so long I forget that might be a problem. 13 yrs on Synthroid before thyroidectomy 5 yrs ago.
Avatar f tn I am on Armour Thyroid.. I have been on for 8 weeks now. How long does it take to start to feel any better? I have been up and down. I am currently on 60mgs of Armour. 30 in the morning and 30 by 1pm. I just had labs done last week to see where I am number wise.. I was on Synthroid but didnt take. I was on 88mcg. What is that equivalent to with the Armour? Could I be in the right dose? Looking forward to making some new friends that can relate!
