Avatar n tn i may have to have my thyroid removed. which is better armour or one of the synthetic hormones? any risks with either?
Avatar n tn My Antithyroglobulin Ab is 150. I am making antibodies against the pig thyroid. I also have MS and was told that synthetic medication would aggrevate the disease. I am getting a little confused because I am still having hypo- symptoms such as abdominal weight gain and dry skin and hair. Should I switch back to the levothyroxine even though I see no change in my symptoms? I assume doing so will bring down the Antithyroglobulin Ab count.
Avatar f tn Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.
Avatar f tn Some doctors have always used synthetic thyroid and just do not know how to begin you on, or change you to, pig thyroid, so if that is often the case the patient may need to see an endocrine specialist after inquiring whether they do use both types of thyroid supplements and start from there. If you need thyroid it's probably a good idea to see a specialist anyway to determine whether everything else is functioning at a healthy level.
Avatar f tn The ingredient is Thyroid Extract USP powder which is the same thyroid extract used in Armour Thyroid tablets. A compounding pharmacist makes up the prescription in store. I could see the powder through the clear capsule.
Avatar f tn t tolerate synthetic very well. Armour has done wonders for me. I do split up the dose as dgmootry does. I also crush it with my teeth before I swallow it. On Armour your Free T3 to be in the higher part of the range and Free T4 to be mid-higher. Pay no attention to the TSH and find a doctor that doesn't either. Even if your doctor says your tests are normal find your target range for the Free T's. I started with 30 mg and as I kept increasing she prescribed higher doses.
Avatar n tn I think you are confusing Synthroid with Armour. Synthroid is a synthetic T4 medication, as is levothyroxine. The difference is the fillers and the price. As far as consistency, all the thyroid medications have had some issues. I am on Armour and I have been on the same dose for almost 5 years, so for me it is very consistent. Each of us do better on one medication over the other. There's no one medication for all.
1797743 tn?1389213685 ve been reading up on the dessicated vs synthetic and found that synthetic only treats one thyroid hormone, while dessicated treats 5. Are you familiar with this? I have an appt soon and will be discussing it with my doctor and if he's not willing to work on it with me then I will look into an Endo.
Avatar f tn I have taken Sythroid since I was 17 years old. I always felt tired, moody, sad, anxious, and mentally was not functioning at a level before my thyroid problem started, even though my blood work was always right on target. My boyfriend's mom who also has hypothyroidism urged me to take Armour Thyroid saying it made her feel better. Within a week I had more energy and felt much less anxious. The first few days I noticed an abundance of energy...
Avatar f tn Many patients on this forum use natural, not synthetic, thyroid drugs made from pig glands. Synthetic would be Levo or Synthroid (t4) and Cytomel (T3). Natural would be something from a compounding pharmacy or Armour or Nature Thyroid. You will have to do the research on that one. There is a growing debate of natural vs. synthetic.
Avatar f tn Is all the growth hormones and antibiotics and what have you that are fed to pigs. How does that effect the thyroid in Armour? Just a thought. So Jen399, if I were you I would follow the path of least resistance until you have to do battle. Many do very well on T4 alone. You very may well be one of them. Natural is always better if you can do it, but I don't think there is anything natural about humans taking pig hormones. Insurance will cover Armour. It's very cheap.
Avatar f tn I am new to thyroid problems, and it looks like I will be having to have my thyroid removed. I am just wondering if after it is removed, can you take Armour instead of the synthetic drugs that are prescribed? Thank You!
Avatar m tn Barb135, I know how to read the ranges etc. Was more curious about Armour vs Levo. I know Synthetic only has t4, where as Armour has all three and is better because of that is that true?
Avatar n tn Having recently being diagnosed with underactive thyroid I have spent ages reading loads of information about treatments etc. There seem to be a lot of people implying that synthetic thyroxine is no good, but surely if as many as 1 in 50 women suffer from hypothyroidism, loads of people must be OK on it. I find it very worrying to read that the treatment I have put on may not work at all.
