Armour thyroid t3

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid t3

armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar f tn Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.
Avatar f tn A little over 2 months ago the APRN prescribed Armour Thyroid 30 mg due a lab test showing low T3 (65.8). I felt better within 2 weeks - I no longer cry for 1-hour episodes and depression is mostly gone. Recently a 2nd lab test showed free T3 results (3.13) within the normal range, but I took Armour a couple hours before the lab test - does this throw off the results?. MY GP would not even write up a lab request for a T3 test and does not want me on Armour...
Avatar f tn t3 from what i have researched and speaking with my new Endo extremely important for feeling well. Mine was very low she said. This would be the reasoning behind the armour has t3 and t4, I do feel better. Just still tired alot.
Avatar n tn T3 at about 20:1. So, Armour contains about five times more T3 than our own thyroids would produce (if they could!). Cytomel is a T3-only drug. To add more T3 to Armour seems quite odd. I think you need a bit more T4 meds. Your FT4 is very low in the range (and was below range previously). T3 is very fast-acting and is neutralized by your system if not used promptly.
Avatar n tn It is natural, Has all the thyroid hormones our own body makes---T1, t2, T3, t4, and has calcitonin. Your body will not become immune to it, like some people do with synthroid. Drs don't like it, because Big pharma has talked it down because they can not really make any money off of it because it is natural, like they can the synthetic drugs. Thats all I can think of for now. I have this memory issue because of this thyroid issue.
Avatar m tn No. Armour thyroid has T3 in it as well as T4. T3 is very fast-acting and soon neutralized by your body if not used promptly. So, many people find that multiple doses keep their FT3 levels more steady throughout the day. Other people don't seem to be as sensitive and find they can take it in one dose. You don't know the cause of your hypo? TPOab and TGab blood tests will tell you if the cause is Hashi's, which is the most prevalent cause of hypo in the developed world.
Avatar f tn In my blood work my TSH was 0.03; Free T4 was1.1; T3 Total 82. I take 1.5 Armour Thyroid in the morning and .05 in the afternoon. I feel great my only problem is my constant hair loss. I also take 150 mg of Buproprion which I have cut down the last couple of weeks and am going to switch to sam-e in hopes that that is my problem. Am wondering if I am over medicated on the Armour.
Avatar f tn That is why it is recommended that doses of T3 containing meds like Armour Thyroid should be split in half for morning and early afternoon doses. T4 meds act much slower so it is common practice to take extra on alternative days, in order to get to the desired average daily amount. Can't do that with T3 meds. What time of day do you take your thyroid med?
Avatar f tn I am on Armour Thyroid 90mg., my lab test showed a TSH of 0.09 BUT...my Free t3 is 244-(230-420 range) Thyroxine free direct-1.10 (0.8-1.8 range) My symptoms of low thyroid persist..constipation (must use laxatives) very dry scaly skin problems, fatigue, gaining weight using exercise and low carb. eating., neuropathy in feet (not diabetic). I think my free levels are way too low. I feel best when my levels are at least at the middle of their ranges. What is your opinion?
Avatar f tn So you need to talk to the doctor about getting tested for Free T3, and make sure they do that every time you go in for tests. Also ask for an increase of the Armour to 60 mg daily. A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypothyroid patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 as needed to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results.
Avatar f tn I think there was a misunderstanding that needs to be clarified. Armour Thyroid has both T4 and T3 in it at a ratio of about 4 to 1. Hypo patients frequently don't adequately convert T4 to T3. Since T3 is the thyroid hormone used by all the cells of the body, it is very important to have adequate Free T3 levels. Armour is prescribed as needed to make sure that Free T3 levels are adequate. I have no idea what the doctor is talking about on the adrenaline.
Avatar f tn Your Free T3 is typically high enough, so continuing hypo symptoms are likely due to the ratio of Free T3 to Reverse T3 being too low, due to excessive Reverse T3. The ratio of Free T3/Reverse T3 is reported to be the best measure of tissue thyroid levels. You can read about it in this link. http://nahypothyroidism.org/thyroid-hormone-transport/#reverseT3 As for the best approach, you might find this to be worthwhile. I received this info from a good thyroid doctor, that I highly respect.
Avatar f tn I received RAI for hyperthyroid and after two years of trying different meds I finally take armour thyroid 120mg, my blood work is fine but I don't feel fine. I have started taking cytomel 12.5mcg thinking that may give me a little more energy and help with a little weight loss. I'm wondering if anyone has added extra t3 with the armour thyroid and had good results. My doctor doesn't know about this yet...
Avatar f tn My thyroid was destroyed 20 years ago. I take Armour Thyroid. My TSH has been 0.01 for the past 20 years no matter the thyroid dosage. My Free T4 is 1.5, my Free T3 is 4.0. I suffer from insomnia, my doctor thinks Armour is the reason.
Avatar f tn At length it has turned out obvious that t4-hormone supplement has cured only 70 % of my thyroid problems. Therefore my physician added t3-hormone to my thyroid treatment 2 weeks ago. The first week with the new medication was ok, but after then I turned very nervous, just like hyper symptoms so I decreased my intake of t3-hormones to a very low level and increased the t4 supplement back to the level i hade before I hade t3 supplement.
Avatar n tn TT 9/13. Tried various does of Synthroid. Have been on Armour Thyroid for two weeks. I take 60 mg in the morning and 30 mg around mid day. Question is 1. do I need to take both of these daily pills at the exact same time each day or can I vary by 15 to 20 mins with no ill effects? 2. I can do the am dose and wait an hour to eat, no problem. But the 2nd dose is tricky........do I take on an empty stomach and wait or is it ok to take with lunch? Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn I went to an endo and he switched me from armour thyroid 90 mg to synthroid 88 mg thinking it would help with bone loss. I have been on it for 3 wks and feel extremely lethargic and I'm freezing. My friend things I should try levoxyl because she didn't do well on synthroid.
Avatar f tn I recently changed from sustained-release T3 to Armour Thyroid. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and I did okay on the T3 - not well, but better. I went to a new doctor and she wanted me on T4 as well so switched me to Armour and I have had so much leg and all over muscle pain. I wasn't sure if it was the Armour or what but it is much more pain than I have ever had (and different pain) even though I always have muscle aches, this is even more intense and constant.
Avatar f tn Different people have different responses to the different desiccated meds, like Armour and NatureThroid. There are subtle differences between them, and you really have to try them for yourself and see which is best for you. The active ingredients in both are very similar. You've only been on Armour a short time, and the initial dose is seldom the dose we end up on. Most doctors retest in about 4-6 weeks, then make dosage adjustments.
Avatar n tn 004 (Low), T3 271 (High), T4 9.3, Thyroglobulin antibody 52.0 (High). She kept me on 240 mg Armour thyroid. (I had a hysterectomy in 13 years ago at age 29) I am just wondering if the shift in test results are a concern and what they mean. I don't feel hyperthyroid, no hair loss, just can't loose weight. Also is it okay to take weight loss supplements with thyroid disease?
178107 tn?1315947630 s easier to regulate by adding some T3 as a separate pill. Also, if on Armour, be sure to have your free T3 monitored regularly. Synthetic T4 is the therapy of choice for those just starting thyroid hormone replacement. If it doesn't work for you, you can always try something else. The synthetic vs. natural issue can get quite heated at times. Both sides have their supporters and detracters. There's no doubt about one thing: there are some people who have been helped by each.
Avatar f tn Been on the same dose of armour thyroid for about a year now. 6 months ago blood tests showed perfect thyroid levels. The ones last week showed a very elevated free t3 (over 8). Hair's falling out and I'm dropping weight. What happened? My thyroid was removed in 1994. I also recently had testosterone added to my compounded hormones.
Avatar f tn I am in Virginia, and have no clue of how UK doctors view Armour. But most Hypothyroidism is a lack of T3...have you had a thyroid scan to rule out nodules?
Avatar n tn Clearly my body ahs stopped prompting the thyroid to produce anything now because of the supplementation, but why is the T3 so high, but yet I still have symptoms of low thyroid, none of high thyroid? Does it mean that my body has a problem using T3, but that it makes it ok from T4? I am going to stop taking all the armour for 2 months to re-test and see whats what without any medication. Is this wise?
