Avatar f tn I switched from synthroid 137 mcg to armour 60 mg in July- Saturday I ended up in the emergecy room because they thought I was having a stroke- II am 56 yrs old on thyroid for 30 years. My diagnosis was Bells Pasly with a extremely low thyroid- dr said your thyroid crashed.
Avatar f tn I started on Armour thyroid 30mg 3 days ago and I woke up today with headache, dizziness, and unbalanced. My story started 1 month ago when my doctor started me on synthroid 50mcg. I developed left facial heaviness, dizziness, and unbalanced after only taking synthroid for 10 days. My Endo doctor told me to stop taking synthroid. I stop taking synthroid for 2 weeks, and the dizziness, left facial heaviness, and headache never completely resolved.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar f tn I am 28 yo female, I had my thyroid removed 10 years ago due to non cancerous nodules growing on it. I've been on synthroid since I was 11 yo. Everything was fine until I went off birth control pills. All of a sudden I had a hard time tolerating my 137 mcg dose of synthroid. I switched to armour thyroid, but couldn't tolerate any more than 60 mg. I felt great on just 60 mg, however my TSH shot up from 1 to almost 8.
Avatar m tn I am sure you all know the many effects that can be blamed on an underactve thyroid and the many that say that the T3 in Armour is something not provided in Synthroid. While Synthroid has improved some of my lethargy, skin problems, concentration, etc, I would be foolish not to try to get the best improvement possible. I only tried Synthroid because I read that an underactive thyroid could cause the problems I have endured for many years and I had to twist the doctors arm to try a low dosage.
Avatar m tn Out of context this is confusing. I'm sure the lab results will answer your question in a short time. We can presume what he was thinking, which is merely a guess, and could be more confusing, or you can wait, which makes more sense. The outcome will be three things; raise med, lower, or stay the same. Not to worry.
Avatar n tn I am not sure armour can help with anything but the thyroid. Why did they put you on armour after being on synthroid for so long? I had real problems with the armour and went very hyper on it. I went back to the synthroid. I am still trying to adjust the dose after being on it for four months. I hope they started you off on a small dose of the armour.
Avatar n tn I've been trying Levoxyl for a month and I don't have any complaints. Well, one complaint. It's hard to swallow. I was on Synthroid for a couple of years. I can't honestly say I notice any difference. My advice is not to tinker around with Armour unless it is proven that you don't get along well with a drug like Levoxyl. Sme people cannot handle the extra T3 in Armour. For others, it is neccesary.
519035 tn?1348275773 I mentioned this to my family doctor and he emphatically stated that Armour was a bad choice and that Synthroid is the best med for my thyroid condition and prescribed same. I filled the Px and started the Synthroid and immediately (within a few days) was feeling very poorly and was restless and had a hard time sleeping. I stopped the Synthroid completely and on my own, started taking taking the Armour.
535882 tn?1396576685 As for the question about switching meds, as a patient - I did have trouble switching from Synthroid to Armour. After all this time - now on desiccated thyroid hormone - I am fine, but I think I had a hard time b/c of being so seriously ill while on Synthroid.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm was taking Synthroid but changed to Armour. I thought I would feel better on Armour, as many people said it's wonderful, but it's not happening. I'm considering changing back to Synthroid. Will be having labs done the end of the Month. Does anyone have opinons?
Avatar f tn Thank you Dr Lupo. I appreciate your reply. I have had an extremely difficult time finding armour thyroid. The only way was to have a compound pharmacy make up capsules. After 1 month I felt fine so I went ahead and refilled the prescription for 240mg. It was less expensive to get 3 months (insurance did not cover compound prescription) and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get the armour for refills. No pharmacy in my area has it in stock.
Avatar f tn Hi - I have had a lot of problems with my thyroid lately and was just recently switched from Synthroid to Armour. For the past couple of weeks I have been having muscle twitching and what feels like muscle weakness. My arms and legs feel tired and rubbery. I don't know what the conversion is from Synthroid to Armour but I am pretty sure that I am not on enough.
Avatar f tn I am on Armour Thyroid.. I have been on for 8 weeks now. How long does it take to start to feel any better? I have been up and down. I am currently on 60mgs of Armour. 30 in the morning and 30 by 1pm. I just had labs done last week to see where I am number wise.. I was on Synthroid but didnt take. I was on 88mcg. What is that equivalent to with the Armour? Could I be in the right dose? Looking forward to making some new friends that can relate!
Avatar f tn I would like to know who out there has been on my same dosage w/Synthroid and what dosage are you on w/ Armour? I know everone is different. The only symptom I have that is different, is I have a deep hunger in my stomach that wakes me up at night and is almost painful (painfully hungry). I am still tired.
Avatar n tn I have taken taken thyroid medication for 25 years and have been on 1.75 grains of Armour thyroid for a number of years. Recently it's effectiveness for me declined. According to my Allergist and lab results (a high Antithyroglobulin Ab and my nutritionist, but negative Thyroid Peroxidase Ab; TSH 0.9), I could be producing antibodies to the natural thyroid so he suggested a switch to Synthroid and Cytomel. At the time I was also showing some signs of too much thyroid medication.
Avatar m tn Recently been diagnosed with a 5mm nodule on my gland and hypothyroid.Having issues with unexplained weight gain etc.Being more of a supplement person instead of meds I am concerned about starting Synthroid. I've done alot ofresearch and it's gets been more confusing as to whether armour is better or not.Seems like you need to be a guinea pig to see which works better-Can anyone advise me on their experiences on both/either.
Avatar n tn If one would switch from Synthroid to Armour thyroid, What is the amount of armour to the amount of synthroid one is taking. Is there a formula to use to get the dosage.
Avatar n tn I started taking armour thyroid meds and i am swelling up in one week i gained seven pounds
Avatar f tn I was on 112mg of Synthroid and 5mg of Cytomel and now I am on 120 mg of Armour. That was my starting dose. I have not really had any side effects (except constipation but had that on and off before) but don't feel any better either. I did read on here that you should start slow and work your way up but my doctor did not do that. So I don't know . I go back in about three weeks for blood tests. I am going to ask for the free t3 also.
Avatar f tn I have Hosimoto's and I've taken Armour Thyroid since 2000 and will never take anything else. Armour Thyroid is all natural - not synthetic. The doctor who first put me on it only prescribed Armour. He didn't like the long term affects that could be caused by taking synthetics. I had surgery in 2002 and 2/3'ds of my thyroid removed. The surgeon wanted to take me off Armour and put me on Synthroid but I wouldn't let him.
Avatar f tn I would like to go back on Armour since I'm not doing well on Synthroid. My TSH is now an 8....I should have never gotten off of Armour. My question is I when I stop taking synthroid, how long should I wait to take Armour?
Avatar f tn Currently I am taking 100mg of Synthroid. Last summer I finally was able to convince my PCP to prescribe Armour Thyroid instead. This was due to still having constant "brain-fog" and cystic back acne from the synthroid (both my PCP and a dermatologist insisted the synthroid was not giving me acne, but within weeks of going off it and on to Armour the acne went completely away).
