Avatar n tn Please see my post about problems with Forest regarding Armour Thyroid, which they also had production problems with. I am considering filing a lawsuit. They may be getting these meds from overseas.
Avatar m tn Only when TSH is suppressed enough to no longer stimulate natural thyroid hormone production, will serum thyroid levels reflect further increases in thyroid medication. A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypothyroid patient clinically (for symptoms), by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 as needed to relieve symptoms. Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results, and especially not TSH results.
Avatar f tn I read that while on thyroid med, Armour included? I shouldn't eat uncooked kale spinach and strawberries, is that right, I have to cook the strawberries before I eat them?, lately I've been eating alot of strawvberries due to growing them. Are sour and sweet cherries ok? and apricots? how about raspberries and blackberries can i eat them fresh? I grow all of them, and just love them.
Avatar n tn Chances are that your doctor knows very little about the FDA haulting Armour production, my docs nurse was giving me a hard time about it. She did not believe me. Not taking your med can do weird things, no one here can say this is the sole reason for the arm pain but might be part of the reason. At least its not the left (heart) side!
Avatar m tn Right now, NP Thyroid is a losing proposition. I have been on it for the past year+ but it has been out of production for some months. Last month I had to go to a neighboring city to find some and I think it was old and I went hypo.
Avatar f tn In addition, studies of endorphins, show that beta endorphins increase antibody production when antibody production is low and decrease antibody production when it’s excessive. It’s expected, but not proven, that the increased endorphins resulting from LDN will reduce thyroid antibody production and help induce remission in autoimmune diseases. There are no studies showing that LDN has an effect on thyroid hormone levels.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism slows metabolism leading to the parietal cells in the stomach producing less stomach (hydrochloric) acid. Under production and over production of stomach acid both cause acid reflux but under production of stomach acid is far more prevalent. Correcting hypothyroidism helps increase stomach acid production.
Avatar n tn I have been taking armour thyroid for about five years now for hypothyroidism--I am 39. I take it at night before bed (at least two hours after dinner) as it seems to help with getting up in the morning. I recently started taking melatonin and I am now having hot flashes. I had these initially when I first started taking thyroid (I think it had more to do with my metabolism and heat regulation actually working or trying to work right).
Avatar f tn Armour 's (made by Forest Pharm. Co.) production has been suspended by the FDA due to reformulation/ FDA protocol issues. They changed the fillers/binders for some unknown reason and many long time users started having hypo symptoms on it. Many people have switched to Nature- throid and Westhroid (RLC Labs Pharm. Co.). There porcine dessicated hormone is doing fine for users nothing has been changed and they are not in trouble with the FDA.
535882 tn?1396576685 Listen,be very carefull when it comes to compounded thyroid or even Armour. Neither can be regulated. In fact I believe Armour is going to be taken off the market because it cannot be regulated. I too take Armour and I prefer Armour to Synthroid or even compounded however, I think Armour may have some issues as far as purity. Have you has your adrenals checked? I am on 3 grains of Armour which is the the equivalant to .
Avatar n tn lowering your FT3 and FT4 by inhibiting the production of endogenous hormones. How long have you been on Armour? Have you retested at all since?
Avatar f tn s, antibodies must mean something.......exactly what do they mean? Is my immune constantly fighting my thyroid and could the Armour play a part in that?
535882 tn?1396576685 Goggle it, its very close to origional Armour which is way better than Armour after 2009.
87651 tn?1259602403 I just got a call from my Endo's nurse. My TSH the other day was 0.13, and my Free T4 was just a teeny bit high. They're changing my med dose from 100mcg to 75mcg. A smaller dose, to lower My T4 and raise my TSH. Personally, I think 88mcg would be correct, but I get tired of arguing with them all of the time. When your hormones get low, your pituitary produces more TSH to stimulate your thyroid to produce more hormones.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar f tn can armour thyroid cause lower back and hip pain? Why and should I stop it. Other than that I feel good.
Avatar f tn m not positive, but your reaction after a week and a half of Armour could be related to your own natural thyroid production dropping as a result of the meds. As far as the quality control issue, why would Armour work for a short while and then not ? I think before switching, I would insist on testing again to see where your FT3 and FT4 levels are now. I'm sure others will comment based on their experiences as well.
Avatar f tn Since serum thyroid levels are the sum of both natural thyroid hormone and thyroid medication, the net result of a small starting dose is little to no change in serum thyroid levels. Only when TSH is suppressed enough to no longer stimulate natural thyroid production, will serum thyroid levels reflect further increases in thyroid medication.
798555 tn?1292787551 I have seen posts that they have also followed suit with Armour thyroid and changed their once beloved pills to the same useless chalky pills as Armour.
393685 tn?1425812522 Here is the information I received today from both RLC labs ( the makers of Naturethroid) and the FDA. YES!!! - I really talked to a live person with both of them:) Now remember - this is ONLY the most up to date information I have. It sounded a bit hairy on the phone with the FDA - but I'll explain below. First - both organizations were the best people I have spoken to in a long time. 1. RLC labs....... "There is NO ceasing of desiccated thyroid medication.
Avatar f tn Well....straight from Armour Thyroid....NP Thyroid is NOT a generic of Armour, although pharmacists think it is! I was told by Armour's pharmacist that there is NO generic for Armour...just FYI. When I tried to locate it here in Ohio, initially the pharms couldnt find it, I kept saying Acella....finally they looked under NP thyroid or just thyroid, manufactured by Acella, and there it was.....
Avatar n tn 7-1.48) I started on Armour Thyroid at 1/4 grain -and increased to 1/2 grain(30mg.) During that time my lab results were: TSH 1.47 FT4 .89 TSH 1.08 FT4 .86 TSH .65 FT4 1.01 (this is when i felt best) but then after a few more months on 30mg TSH 1.07 Ft4 .9 and my dr increased me to 60mg Armour (but this is the new armour) my results: TSH .05 FT4 .86 and my hypo symptoms are back??? I have called my dr.
Avatar f tn When starting on meds, the TSH will go down and thus stimulate less production of hormone from the thyroid gland. Thus, it is quite normal for a hypo patient starting on thyroid med to see that their levels do not rise significantly until the dose is high enough to basically suppress TSH and become the sole source of serum thyroid hormone. What were your TSH, Free T4, and Free T3 levels before starting on the med? Please include reference ranges shown on the lab report.
1296717 tn?1272719314 Last year, Armour thyroid was changed and the manufacturer neglected to tell the medical community about this change. One day, as I went to my local pharmacy to pick up my prescription, they informed me that it was no longer available. As with my entire journey with Thyroid health, I researched and found out that the medication was on "back order" due to a shortage in Pig thyroid which is the main ingredient.
