Avatar n tn How can I tell if I have the "old" or the "new" formulation of Armour thyroid?
1401696 tn?1280838616 hey guys thanks for this post, I just started my thyroid medication for the first time yesterday. told my Dr. to give me armour...so he did seeing that I had the signs and symptoms, etc.... but I dont know if its old or new armour-- when I went to the pharmacy they only had 0.
Avatar f tn I have been on Armour Thyroid for about 5 years now. It took about 1 year to get stable after RAI treatment. About a year ago, I started noticing changes in my health. Severe fatigue, difficulty concentrating, constipation, water retention, depression, weight gain, severly dry eyes, dry skin, etc. I just now found out that Armour has been reformulated. I have been so sick and busy trying to hold down a full-time job and raise 2 children that I haven't even had time to do any research.
Avatar f tn Dextrose and microcrystalline cellulose are inactive ingredients used in Armour Thyroid tablets. According to Pharmaceutical Formulation Databases and Resources, these act as fillers and compression aids to improve the overall characteristics of the tablet powder. According to Pharmaceutical Formulation Databases and Resources, sodium starch glycolate is used to help the Armour Thyroid tablets dissolve once a patient takes the pill.
Avatar n tn Hi I noticed a lot of comments on the "New" formulation of the Armour Thyroid tablets. I never got pills from my pharmacy with the "A" I swear all of mine were blank with no logo. I noticed this last batch has the "A" logo, is whiter and does not split in half well at all. Were there Armour tablets with no logo before? I am so confused and upset by this whole problem with this medication. I feel like buying a pig farm and learning how to make the stuff myself.

Avatar m tn Post the free T3 / 4 ranges used as they very lab to lab. It is typical for Armour and any other dessicated pig thyroid to have the FT3 higher than the FT4 since the ratio of T3 to T4 in pigs is higher than in humans. Never the less, most people find a level that they feel good with after a while. #'s aside, what really matters is is symptoms went away or not. Note: This new Armour formulation (since '09) does not work as well as the original for some people.
Avatar f tn I read something similar on another thyroid board. But one person called a sales rep at Armour and they posted back that it wasn't true. So who knows, right! I personally don't have any experience with other NDT's but from memory of their posts some are on Naturethroid and Thyroid Gold. I am sure there are others...... This came from your pharmacist or the pharmacist assistant? Keep me updated!
393685 tn?1425812522 I started having hyper symptoms on the new Armour. I was getting really bad heart palpitations and could not sleep. So I had my doctor switch me to naturthroid. So far so good but I just started it. My health insurance actually covered it they would not cover Armour makes me wonder why? I should you started taking natur-throid? I swallow my pills so I didn't have any issue with that but I did with the hyper symptoms.
606423 tn?1271824088 Are you happy with the new Armour formulation? I guess they changed their formulation or something along thos lines and thats why there is a shortage. A lot of us have switched to other natural brands such as Westhroid and Naturethroid.
Avatar m tn Most people needed their dose adjusted with the new formulation of Armour depending on when you actually got the new formulation. Many went hypo on their same dose, and reported strange symptoms. This is an important bit of info, since if you did not increase the dose you may have been slowly going hypo for months on the 'new' Armour with out suspecting it as the cause.
798555 tn?1292787551 All patients DO know is that all-too-many of them are seeing their hypothyroidism return with the new Erfa Thyroid.
692143 tn?1275836577 I've had Hashimoto's hypothyroidism for 35 years. My medication is Armour Thyroid, which was working for me, until recent change in formulation. Recently had TSH tested, and I was high on the range. Meaning, the higher the number, the lower your thyroid function. My test showed 6.1. Physician wants me to wait 3 full months to be retested and has increased my dosage by 15mg (1/4 grain). I've been on this increase of dosage since 4/15/10.
Avatar f tn so i take sixty mg of armour thyroid a day... but i still have headaches and tired... i know its my adrenals... it has to be .. because when i take the medicine i should not feel worse... if anyone has any suggestions or anything please let me know... and when i take licorice root i feel better but that doesnt always work.. im so tired of this damn problem .. i have lost ten years of my life to it... im ready to give up..
Avatar f tn I had 1/2 my thyroid removed and now I'm taking armour & my TH levels are fine..so why do I still feel like I'm falling apart?!
Avatar n tn May not be available for along time, who knows??? We were not doing well on the new formulation of Armour( weird HYPO symptoms and blood work off after our last refill) anyway and had already switched to Naturethroid 5 weeks ago. However, they are having supply/demand issues and it is also hard to find. They will have supplies filled in aprox. 90 days. You can have compounded dessicated in your MG to hold you over until then. Naturethroid is working great here. You should try it when you can.
Avatar n tn This may be totally unrelated, but I read something about thyroid patients in New Zealand having a lot of trouble with a new formulation of thyroid medication. Many of them are getting sick. It is Eltroxin made by GlaxoSmithKline. Totally unrelated. Sorry. Hope you folks get past this problem. I have to go look for that thread of marilynns'.
Avatar f tn Well....straight from Armour Thyroid....NP Thyroid is NOT a generic of Armour, although pharmacists think it is! I was told by Armour's pharmacist that there is NO generic for Armour...just FYI. When I tried to locate it here in Ohio, initially the pharms couldnt find it, I kept saying Acella....finally they looked under NP thyroid or just thyroid, manufactured by Acella, and there it was.....
Avatar n tn I'm new taking Armour so I have no idea how it used to be but I've read of people not liking it now compared to how it was before it was reformulated. I was wondering if this is still true. Have they improved whatever the problem was or could folks who have before and after experience with it share thier review of Armour?
Avatar n tn Because the new formulation of Armour Thyroid does not work, have many tried the natural Iodoral?
Avatar n tn Since T3 is 3 times as potent as T4 that is equivalent to about 132 mcg of T4 which is equivalent to two grains of Armour (120 mg). The proposed new dosage of Armour that you listed would average only 50 mg per day, which would be a huge drop and would be far worse for you. To switch to Armour from you current med/dosage you really need to start with two grains (120 mg) and then increase from there.
Avatar n tn I have Hashimoto's resulting in hypothryoidism. I was prescribed Armour and then Levothyroxine. I felt a little better on the Armour, so I switched back on my own. My Antithyroglobulin Ab is 150. I am making antibodies against the pig thyroid. I also have MS and was told that synthetic medication would aggrevate the disease. I am getting a little confused because I am still having hypo- symptoms such as abdominal weight gain and dry skin and hair.
