Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid mary shomon

Avatar n tn I am one of those (rare?) people who do well on Armour thyroid. In many forums, people complain about it being useless since the reformulation and switch to Erfa. However, I briefly tried Erfa as well and did not like it; it tended to make me hyper and I had to multi-dose it, whereas Armour can be taken once in the morning without problems.
Avatar n tn Not quite sure why you have such disdain for Mary Shomon. As I said, it certainly is not the only source for good thyroid doctors, just one I have found to be worthwhile so far. I used the Amer. Thyroid Assn. site to locate a doc. and it did not turn out very well. Here's another approach--looking for a doctor who has prescribed Armour thyroid. http://www.armourthyroid.com/con_phLocator.aspx Do you have any better sources that you would recommend?
Avatar n tn You dug up a thread five years old? Like this is amazing news? Mary Shomon has become the queen of disinformation. The only valuable thing in that thread is the name Jim Lowe. I have a headache now.
Avatar f tn The ingredient is Thyroid Extract USP powder which is the same thyroid extract used in Armour Thyroid tablets. A compounding pharmacist makes up the prescription in store. I could see the powder through the clear capsule.

709381 tn?1229139667 Well...the fact that you are on Armour (or another brand of desicated thyroid) changes things. It sounds like you are over-medicated. The question is, how high is your Free T3? Testing and regulation of medication is different for desiccated thyroid hormone than it is for synthetic hormone replacement. Your TSH and Free T4 will be lower and your Free T3 will be higher. You really need to have your Free T3 checked each time your other tests are run if you are on desiccated thyroid.
Avatar f tn Mary Shomon has some interesting things to say in her book, and offers a lot of useful information. You just have to separate the facts from the opinion and research some of her "facts" for yourself. However, she has some definite biases and they lurk everywhere, not the slightest bit below the surface. I would not say the book presents all the options with equal fairness. I also don't like some of her internet promos, e.g. the "thyroid test package"...
567985 tn?1216740438 The Zone Diet by Barry Sears PHD and The Thyroid Diet by Mary J Shomon both are very helpful. Unfortunately, just because we are on meds that weight doesn't fall off us the way we think it should. We will always be metabolically challenged because of the fact that we have hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn Is all the growth hormones and antibiotics and what have you that are fed to pigs. How does that effect the thyroid in Armour? Just a thought. So Jen399, if I were you I would follow the path of least resistance until you have to do battle. Many do very well on T4 alone. You very may well be one of them. Natural is always better if you can do it, but I don't think there is anything natural about humans taking pig hormones. Insurance will cover Armour. It's very cheap.
410801 tn?1220119445 The site is managed by patient advocate Mary Shomon. It gives info regarding the docs location as well as what other patients have to say about them so hopefully you can find one doc who is good for you.
751197 tn?1270314156 I was diagnosed a week ago with hypothyroidism and have only been on the Armour Thyroid since this past Wednesday, so I'm new to this. For the last couple of days, I've been taking it sublingually rather than swallowing. I just read an article entitled "Should You Take Your Thyroid Hormone With Food vs. An Empty Stomach?" by Mary Shomon (Google to find it, since external links are apparently prohibited here).
209405 tn?1189755821 no petition needed. I starting looking into this last week. MAry Shomon had an article on "letters to Oprah" regarding thyroid disease. She is attempting to flood her emails with letters of people like us to get her to reconize the people miserable with it. Oprah is a sub clinical hypothyroid individual. She probably has the best doctors all over the world treating her b/c of who she is.
Avatar f tn Hello, the only doctor I was able to find in New Orleans is a Dr. Chuck Mary. Not sure if he is accepting new patients or not- search the Mary Medical Clinic and don't be thrown off by the other treatments they do there. He basically saved me a few years back when my then doctor had me lowering my dose of Armour based on my TSH, when in fact I was very hypo and needed a huge increase. It's worth checking into!
Avatar f tn Give the about thyroid .com site - Again this is by Mary Shomon. Very user friendly and creditable. Sign in as a user and get the newsletters. Great service offered!! Thyroid .org also a valuable site. Plan on many hours of research - there is a ton of reading.
Avatar f tn Hi Kim, If your levels are truly where they should be, you should not be gaining weight if you are eating correctly. Diet is the biggest factor in weight loss, and exercise helps out a lot too. I'm reading a great book by Jillian Michaels - Master Your Metabolism. I haven't completed it yet, but it seems good so far. Also, there's another book I've read which was very informative and helpful. It's named The Thyroid Diet by Mary J Shomon.
