Avatar m tn I am 56, 5'4'' , 155 lbs and I have gained 20 lbs in one year!! I exercise hard 6 days/week, eat a low carb (<25 g) clean diet, no sugar, no bread, no pastas. I am on Armour Thyroid (3 grains/day) but still feel like a nap at 2:00 pm, although I am sleeping 7-8 hrs every night. Brain fog is rampant, lack of focus and concentration. Don't know where to go from here!! Please help. What am I missing?
Avatar n tn I have low thyroid and I am taking Armour 30MG,can I take Alli for weight loss while taking Armour?
Avatar f tn Hi there - I started Armour a couple of months ago (July this year) after doctors kept me on synthetic for 3 years. I kid you not, I'm in the UK and I was always a size 8, weighed between 7st10 and 7st12, I'm 5'3". In the three years, despite no change in my diet (in fact I used to eat more before I got ill!) my weight has literally doubled.
Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with hypo thyroid. I have been put on 30mg of armour thyroid medicine. I am overweight and have been trying to lose weight. Since I've been on this medicine, I have hunger pains constantly, can't get enough to eat. I have called my dr. Of course he says it's not the med. I don't know what to do. I have already put on 4 lbs in 7 days. What other meds should I look into. HELP!!!!
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I'm a longtime lurker and first time poster! I was hoping someone would have some advice for me about NOT taking thyroid medication. I have the opposite problem of most of you it seems...my doctors seem to want to over-medicate me. I had a sub-total thyroidectomy due to a very large goiter in 2000. I never was on medication because my throid levels were always within a good range.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking 60 of armour thyroid once a day. I have not been feeling good at all and I can not loose weight despite trying everything. I was told my labs were normal but I wanted to see if there was any insight Free t4. 1.09 TSH. 1.01 A1C. 5.
Avatar f tn I have been on 1200 for most of my life, so it seems and I still have gained the weight. Only when I was divorced did I lose weight. Crackers, sardines and milk were the bill of fair. I do know that at 1996 I was 160... now I'm 240. Diet is not a problem. I'm still in good health but still overweight. I'm to busy to be sedative.......... so where to go from here.
Avatar n tn I need to know why I am gaining weight instead of losing weight on the med. armour thyroid? I also would like to know the symtoms of thyroid, and I would also like to know about the drug aromour thyroid...like what it does to you and the side effects?
906129 tn?1242398630 I totally agree with gimel......until your levels are stable, you wont lose weight and by taking T3 to help lose the weight will just send you hyper (not nice either). The T4 has to convert to T3 and hence the ballgame starts on getting just the right amount of T4 for it to convert to T3. If all else fails with synthroid...then go the T3 route but try the T4 route first. Cytomel can cause thyroid storm if taken in larger amounts than needed.
Avatar n tn He is sick and tired of feeling tired, etc and is planning on taking Armour Thyroid. He has seen how Armour Thyroid has helped me this past year and a half as well as seeing what it has done to make his sister feel so much better the past 3 months. I honestly feel since he's had extensive blood work done and they did find below normal testosterone, low amino acids, low cortesole (sp) and some other things.
999838 tn?1299103020 In April in my quest to figure out why I felt crummy I had my thyroid checked and my TSH levels were .85; then again (by my Rheumatologist) on July 17 and they were 3.97 and then (by my OBGYN because I still felt crummy) on July 30 and they had risen to 5.12 (my T3F was 3.84 with a normal range of 1.0-40.0, and my T4F.885 with a normal range of .300-6.0) At the end of April when trying to get my thyroid checked I was diagnosed with Lupus and Fibromyalgia from the full blood panel they took.
927140 tn?1244210051 I do not have a thyroid n I take armour thyroid medicine. I weigh too much and wasn't too lose weight. what can I take our do to help. Exercise does NOT work eating right does not work.
Avatar f tn I just gain way too easily and I never seem to lose weight until I reduce my cals to 500 a day and the minute I eat 1200 cals a day I gain so fast!! The worst symptoms I'm having since I quit smoking and all this weird thyroid stuff started is that my sex drive had taken a nose dive, which is not normal for me at all and my poor husband has obviously suffered too. I was also expereincing hair loss, which thankfully seems to have finally slowed down now.
457926 tn?1216002420 they changed my meds agian to armour thyroid 2 tabs of 90 mg does anyone know about this med. This discussion is related to Help very confused.
Avatar f tn 10 years ago I had a thyroid storm heart failure and was treated with Tapazole for 4 years for my hyperthyroidism. I was very thin. I gained 100 lbs on Tapazole. My hyperthyroidism returned because I have the old symptoms again but this time I am fat and can't seem to lose weight. I never weighed more than 110 lbs until I turned 50.
Avatar f tn I have been on thyroid med since 1994, i think i have tried just about all of them, was on Armour Thyroid now my insurance won't let me have it, couldn't really tell it did anything for me tho. Now i am on brand name Synthroid a little expensive but they also want me to take cytomel very expensive haven't tried it yet just the Synthroid. It seems my weight keeps going up no matter what i am on, it is so frustrating.
Avatar f tn Needless to say i went to a new thyroid doctor and he put me on armour thyroid which actually made me feel better within 2 weeks of going off the synthroid. I have been on armour throid about 8 months now and i started gaining weight yet again even tho i have been dieting and exercising.
Avatar m tn It's not the dose that counts, it's what your Free T3 and Free T4 levels are. With your levels, yes, I would think you'd be able to lose some weight, but there are other things that can cause inability to lose, such as insulin resistance and/or PCOS. Both are quite common with hypothyroidism. You might want to get checked out for both of those.
Avatar f tn You would probably benefit from Armour dessicated thyroid. This is a prescription medication. Armour is actually dried provine (pig) gland. It has the full complement of thyroid hormones T1, T2, T3 and T4. Synthroid is just synthetic T4. Go to stopthethyroidmadness.com. You didn't mention if you are having any other symptoms of hypothyroidism so I assume you are close the your optimal dose, just not quite "there" in terms of balancing your metabolism.
Avatar f tn Weight can be affected by a number of things, including diet and exercise, of course. In addition weight gain can be affected by low metabolism. An NDT type thyroid med like Westhroid can help, only if the person has low metabolism due to inadequate levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones Free T4 and Free T3. What are your Free T4 and Free T3 levels and reference ranges shown on the lab report? Also, what other symptoms do you have besides a weight issue?
Avatar n tn What is the reason for my weight problems even though my thyroid tests are within normal range? I am hypothyroid and work out regularly and eat right?
1258539 tn?1293840202 You have normal thyroid levels - if these were before Armour, then there is no indication for this treatment. If levels on armour, then would need to evaluate pre-treatment levels. If you have lost this much weight - would recommend second opinion - start w/ general internist. Also ask for cortisol (adrenal) check.
Avatar f tn I am now seeing a new dr because I cannot lose weight, have no energy and only gain weight, and this is the first time after several drs and even my previous, that I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, this new Dr wants me on Armour. He said my other doctors were not looking at the total picture and ordering all the labs needed. My labs are- T4- 1.18. TSH- 3.530 TPO- 69 T3- 2.9 My D is 25.5 A1c 6.2 Insulin 15.
Avatar n tn I have Hypothyroidism. I have been taking levoxyl for at least 8 years and over the past year, I switched to a generic brand. Lately, I am feeling all the symptoms of an inactive thyroid, but my blood levels appear to be in the normal range. I am listless, weepy, my hair is falling out, my nails are brittle, my skin is dry, I can't lose weight, and I have short-term memory.
