Avatar f tn I started on Armour thyroid 30mg 3 days ago and I woke up today with headache, dizziness, and unbalanced. My story started 1 month ago when my doctor started me on synthroid 50mcg. I developed left facial heaviness, dizziness, and unbalanced after only taking synthroid for 10 days. My Endo doctor told me to stop taking synthroid. I stop taking synthroid for 2 weeks, and the dizziness, left facial heaviness, and headache never completely resolved.
Avatar m tn Been on tirosint 112 mcg for about 3 weeks after being taking off armour thyroid. These symptoms I get every morning a couple of hours after taking medicine. Headache, neck pain, leg cramps, warm weird feeling in face, some tightness in throat. I've been having a hard time with most thyroid meds. not sure why but the doctors not sure either. It also messes with my appetite and sometimes causes nausea and vomiting depending on how bad the headaches get.
Avatar f tn I started getting that constant headache when I started on Armour... I thought it was associated with that, and finally after a month of this constant headache I went to the Dr. She said my sinus were so swollen and infected! She even said the lymph nodes in my neck were enlarged too! I should have known it wasn't the Armour!
Avatar f tn After pratically begging my Doctor to switch from Levothyroxin to Armour, he finally wrote a script for it. I'm saying up front that I was taking 125mcg of Levothyroxin an i'm miserable. My dad takes Armour and he said he would never go back to synthethic. My dad has absoutely no Thyroid and is currently on 2 grains of Armour.
581310 tn?1253029550 ve had migraines for approx 50 years, and have taken Armour thyroid medication for over twenty years. The headaches are sort of like the thunder in the song: they come and they go-o. Never have figured out why, but have learned to deal with them. Once went three years without one.
487969 tn?1249313291 Headache .... Armour!! Weren't you on an antibiotic or predisone recently??
Avatar f tn you should not take Armour Thyroid if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Armour Thyroid; your thyroid gland is overactive; or your adrenal glands are not making enough corticosteroid hormone". So I think your doctor knows what he is doing, you must wait for the other analyses/diagnosis. May be some people here had the same experience and can give some good advice.
Avatar f tn s very hard for us in Sweden to get hold of armour thyroid or erfa from the States nor Canada. So I have to make my desicions wisely. When I took Armour Thyroid (The new Armour Thyroid) I felt "foggy" all the time and I lost hair rapidly. I quit the treatment and am now thinking about switching to either nature thyroid or Erfa. I don't know which one's better. Appreciate answers from every single person. Blessings from Sweden.
Avatar n tn Before that, she had been on 2 grains of Armour, but forced to switch due to reformulation of Armour brand and sudden hypo symptoms with a drop in t4 that Armour reformulation caused her. Before going with dessicated thyroid 8 months ago however ,she was on 100mcg Synthroid daily.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if it is okay to take homeopathic OTC drugs while taking Armour? I am not talking about homeopathic to aide in Thyroid function, but for other reasons, like anxiety, cough, headache or whatever the problem may be at the the time. I just bought some "nerve tonic" for my PMS. Are there any herbs or homeopathic remedies I need to stay away from while on Armour Thyroid?
Avatar f tn Synthroid (along with Lexoxyl and generics), which contains only T4. Armour (and other desiccated porcine thyroid products) contain both T3 and T4. Some people need that extra T3, some don't. It's partly a matter of personal preference and partly what works best for you, preference aside. You've already had TSH test at 800, so that is a very firm indicator of hypothyroidism. Your symptoms are also classic hypo symptoms. Be sure to ask your doctor for FREE T3 and FREE T4.
Avatar n tn I've been taking Armour Thyroid (30 mg daily) and am experiencing severe pain in the area of the thyroid gland and neck as well as tightening muscles/ligaments in the mouth and calves. Has anyone else had similar reactions? Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these symptoms and how to get rid of them? Thanks so much for any input.
Avatar f tn Cut those Armour thyroid pills in half! Absolutely! As my good doctor says, "The most common starting dose for patients with hypothyroidism is Armour thyroid, 90 mg which is cut in half with a razor blade and half is ideally taken twice a day, 10 to 20 minutes after breakfast and dinner. If you have trouble remember taking them, then take the entire dose before breakfast. It is also ideal to chew the tablet before swallowing.
535882 tn?1396576685 As for the question about switching meds, as a patient - I did have trouble switching from Synthroid to Armour. After all this time - now on desiccated thyroid hormone - I am fine, but I think I had a hard time b/c of being so seriously ill while on Synthroid.
Avatar m tn I, probably, had to tell you my thyroid history first. A year and a half ago I was a healthy person living without any pills. It so happened that during a check up they found a noddle on my thyroid. The result of the biopsy was: "Suspicious for papillary carcinoma". The surgery which I had last February showed that the noddle was much smaller than they had told me (1/2sm instead of 1.5) and it was benign.
Avatar n tn I am taking 2.5 mcg cytomel and 8 drops of Lugols solution for treatment of thyroid nodules. I have more energy, sleep better, but am having regular frontal headaches and my eye ache and itch. It's hard to know if I am taking too much or too little, since the symptoms can be the same! Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I had an extra script for Armour for when I had to bump up my dose slightly and suddenly realized the label said Acella for Thyroid Armour- I freaked out. Had never heard of Acella, hadn't even noticed that before (small light lettering) and was convinced it was why I had had problems in the past. Come to find out my pharmacy had put Armour in that bottle when looking at markings on the pills.
Avatar f tn for 2 months prior to armour and felt like crap, headache everyday, feet and joint muscle pain, just plain crappy. I believe I went more hypo but the answer was, your labs are normal. I need to convince this endo to do the rest of the tests that justaustin said I need to have done. I still have some deficiencies that I'm working on. I just need to know what anyone makes of these labs, and what would you do, suggestions welcome.
Avatar f tn I was on levothyroxin and did not do well. I had read so much about getting on armour thyroid that I was glad when the new doc ordered armour. Now I have been reading about the new formulation and am wondering if I would do better with getting my levels up if I switched to the ERFA? Will my levels ever get where they need to be if I stay on the Armour? there is so much to consider here. It sounds like you can easily have your RX changed to a different pharmacy that would provide the ERFA.
Avatar f tn So I take vitamins every other day which seems to help. I am currently on 2 grain of nature thyroid, I just started in hopes that it would stop these symptoms. WE will see. When my labs have been normal in the past I still had the dizziness. If I lessen the dosage it seems to help a little. My most recent labs are 6.89 tsh / .68 t4's / 2.8 t3's. I was on half of 5 grain cytomel and 1 grain of armour at the time. But my symptoms were getting worse.
Avatar n tn t have any side effects on the extra dose of Armour apart from an initial headache the first week which has disappeared. No jitteriness or nervousness or difficulty sleeping so I thought I was doing okay but my ankles are very badly swollen!
Avatar m tn I increased my dosage of Armour Thyroid to 90 mg per day about a week ago. Now my thyroid is swollen and my heart rate is 90. My normal heart rate is 70-72. Has this happended to anyone else? I used to take Levoxyl and Cytomol and never had this problems.
Avatar f tn About a year and a half ago my doctor prescribed lexyol for my thyroid. She also had me on testrostrome cream and DHEA. I was feeling like a new women. Then after taking the meds for about a year my throat started swelling really bad. I have been to several doctors, had a ultra sound. The ultra sound showed small goiters. The other doctors told me that it was acid reflux. Everytime I take idodine or the thyroid medicene my throat swells.
907968 tn?1292622204 120 mg of Armour to BEGIN with, especially with a heart patient is extremely high. The usual starting dose is 30 mg Armour Thyroid, for cardiovascular patients, with additional Armour being added at 15 mg every two to three weeks, which depends on your thyroid hormone levels. I'm a bit surprised that the physicians assistant started you on such a high dosage, usually a GP will refer a person with abnormal thyroid levels to an endocrinologist first.
