Avatar f tn I had Radioactive Iodine treatment twice 25 years ago for Hyperthyroidism. I have taken Eltroxin daily. Now I have heart palpitations, panic attach, muscle aches and not able to sleep. My levels are now TSH 0.01, T3-5.1, T4-19.9. we just decreased my Eltroxin by.25.
Avatar f tn Dr. Lupo: I have been on Armour Thyroid 15mg since Aug '08. All symptoms (fatigue/hairloss/muscle soreness/blurry vision/dizziness/feeling cold) stopped at first week of treatment but after that first week, I developed stomach inflammation (just had an endoscopy indicating inflammation consistent with daily aspirin intake). I do not take any aspirin or motrin, etc.. The only drug I take is Armour Thyroid. Is it possible to be react to Armour Thyroid in this way?
Avatar m tn my doctor called me and asked if I was taking my sythroid after my blood test.. Never asked why he was asking but I was taking it every day. Why would a doctor ask and then never mention it again This discussion is related to synthroid with armour ???.
Avatar f tn Higher TSH levels indicate a hypoactive thyroid and lower than normal levels indicate hyperthyroidism. Initially, many thyroid disorders begin as hyper, and then turn hypo. If your levels are fluctuating I really doubt it has anything to do with what you did or didn't do. Your thyroid is out of whack.
Avatar f tn Always had low thyroid and taking Armour for 20 years. Nov 2014 was rear ended at stop light and lots of neck trauma. Now have overactive thyroid confirmed by tests. Also have sense of throat fullness and palpitation. Can car accident bring on Thyroid problems?
Avatar n tn My TSH is 1.7, T3 is 319 and T4 is 1.2 Is my T4 too low. I am still having hair loss. Is it possiblr to ttake a small dosage of Synthroid and Armour? This discussion is related to Low TSH, low normal free T4 on Armour?.
Avatar n tn I've been taking Armour Thyroid for about 8 years. I recently switched to a different Dr. because I was having the same sxs: tiredness, constipation, cold intolerance, weight gain, dry & cracked skin, puffy eyes & hands, etc as the first time I was diagnosed as hypothyroid but now had extreme lethargy sleeping well into the afternoon & having a normal bedtime. New labs showed TSH 1 ; Free T4 WNL and Free T3 546.
Avatar f tn 10 years ago I had a thyroid storm heart failure and was treated with Tapazole for 4 years for my hyperthyroidism. I was very thin. I gained 100 lbs on Tapazole. My hyperthyroidism returned because I have the old symptoms again but this time I am fat and can't seem to lose weight. I never weighed more than 110 lbs until I turned 50.
Avatar f tn What are the reference ranges for the Free T4 and Total T3? Do you have a Free T3 result? Both your FT4 and TT3 look to be quite low, indicating that you might be slightly hypo, not hyper, even though your TSH is very low, which is common when one is on a medication with T3 in it. Hair loss is definitely a symptom of being hypo, as well as other things. Please clarify your med dosage. Are you taking 1.5 grains of Armour in the morning and 0.
Avatar m tn I've been on Armour thyroid for ever...at least five years...two grains per day. All of a sudden I am manifesting symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Blood pressure is up from 116/70 to 146/70, and my normal temp up from 97.6 to 98.6. Additional symptoms include a twitching right eye and frequent urination. My TSH which went along with the 116/70 BP reading was .35 Suggestions?
Avatar f tn What would be the determining factor for prescribing armour thyroid vs synthroid (and maybe cytomel)? I appreciate your help very much. It seems like it has taken forever to get the right dosage and help.
Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with hypo thyroid. I have been put on 30mg of armour thyroid medicine. I am overweight and have been trying to lose weight. Since I've been on this medicine, I have hunger pains constantly, can't get enough to eat. I have called my dr. Of course he says it's not the med. I don't know what to do. I have already put on 4 lbs in 7 days. What other meds should I look into. HELP!!!!
Avatar f tn I have been shaky, unable to sleep, really cold, then hot and sweaty at night, anxious, and feeling like I need to eat all the time. The doctor said I went to hyper. I had been treated for hyperthyroidism post pregnancy with my first child and was put on PTU. I have been put on PTU again, 50mg 2x a day. I'm concerned about going back and forth from hypo to hyper. Is is reasonable to be put on PTU again, or should I be taking nothing considering I most likely will go back to hypo?
Avatar f tn My thyroid was destroyed 20 years ago. I take Armour Thyroid. My TSH has been 0.01 for the past 20 years no matter the thyroid dosage. My Free T4 is 1.5, my Free T3 is 4.0. I suffer from insomnia, my doctor thinks Armour is the reason.
Avatar f tn I'll just add a quick comment to what Gimel said. When we hear this: "labs show my TSH as hyperthyroid," we know right away that the doctor is not familiar with using Armour. Your TSH is very low because you are taking Armour (NDT). This is characteristic of NDT, it drives your TSH very low even with lowish doses of NDT because it contains T3. Your very low TSH does not mean you are hyperthyroid. It takes high FT4 and high FT3 to indicate that you are hyper.
907968 tn?1292622204 120 mg of Armour to BEGIN with, especially with a heart patient is extremely high. The usual starting dose is 30 mg Armour Thyroid, for cardiovascular patients, with additional Armour being added at 15 mg every two to three weeks, which depends on your thyroid hormone levels. I'm a bit surprised that the physicians assistant started you on such a high dosage, usually a GP will refer a person with abnormal thyroid levels to an endocrinologist first.
Avatar f tn s major objection and resistance to using natural thyroid preparations - its variability in its blood-levels. Most doctors using Armour thyroid are not aware that Armour thyroid should be used twice daily and NOT once a day. The major reason is that the T3 component has such a short half life and needs to be taken twice daily to achieve consistent blood levels.
Avatar n tn I have switched to Armour thyroid in 1993 (Hyperthyroidism from Graves Disease and the removal of my thyroid gland) since I found I was allergic (or having a reaction) to synthroid. The symptoms after starting the synthroid was a metal taste in my mouth. I kept developing more and more symptoms every month I was on it (digestive problems, staid muscles) until I finally (after being on it for nine months) developed rheumatoid arthritis symptoms over my entire body.
Avatar n tn I have been hypothyroid for years and on Armour Thyroid. All of a sudden I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease, Thyroid Eye Disease and SVT. I'm trying to figure out how all of this is happening. I've always gone to an endocrinologist and my lab tests have always been good. I have never been hyperthyroid so I can't understand how I could have Graves disease.
Avatar n tn I had the treatment to lower my hyperthyroidism last year and have been on Levothyroxin. My question is I have become worried with the way our country is going that something could happen that I couldn't get the Levothyroxin and since I have to have something in order to live now I would like to stock up as I also stock up on food. I have found that the synthetics only have a shelf of about 2-3 years, if that. But Armour has a shelf life of 17 years.
Avatar n tn I saw my endo in November, and he ordered tests that found high thyroid peroxidase antibodies (841). He had me try 70 mcg of Synthroid for several weeks, which made me feel nervous and ill, so I quit. In late December, I had an ultrasound guided fine needle biospy, which confirmed thyroiditis and found "rare groups follicular cells," and two nodules. I lost my insurance on January 1 of this year, and haven't seen my endo since.
Avatar f tn I took Synthroid for awhile, but still felt like ****, so was changed to armour, at first I felt a little better, but then back to feeling crappy! (sluggish, tirerd, quick tempered, dry skin, dry eye, dry everything and just real Blah!) My doc is very thurough and keep a close eye on my levels! I take my meds every morning at the same time. In September my levels would classify me in hyperthyroidism, but still felt hypo, so my doctor did NOT change my dose.
