Avatar f tn Many people have had great luck if not better luck on Armour Thyroid. I understood this to be natural Thyroid but somehow pharmaceutical grade. While it is derived from pig thyroid, the variability I think seems less than many would fear. I'm not sure if "raw" Thyroid is OTC, but my understanding is that Armour Thyroid required a prescription.
Avatar n tn I have no idea how the FDA works, or why Forest made the change. All I can tell you is that I used Armour Thyroid both before the change and after. I can tell there is a difference if you try to take it sublingually, and perhaps that is the biggest reason patients don't like it as well. Other than that aspect I am very happy with it.
393685 tn?1425812522 Here is the information I received today from both RLC labs ( the makers of Naturethroid) and the FDA. YES!!! - I really talked to a live person with both of them:) Now remember - this is ONLY the most up to date information I have. It sounded a bit hairy on the phone with the FDA - but I'll explain below. First - both organizations were the best people I have spoken to in a long time. 1. RLC labs....... "There is NO ceasing of desiccated thyroid medication.
Avatar n tn Chances are that your doctor knows very little about the FDA haulting Armour production, my docs nurse was giving me a hard time about it. She did not believe me. Not taking your med can do weird things, no one here can say this is the sole reason for the arm pain but might be part of the reason. At least its not the left (heart) side!
776302 tn?1241091853 I had to get off Armour thyroid extract because they are not making it anymore. On levothyroxin and hope it is helping me. Have to get tested next week. Hope I can take 100mcgs without any side effects to affect my heart.

Avatar n tn Please see my post about problems with Forest regarding Armour Thyroid, which they also had production problems with. I am considering filing a lawsuit. They may be getting these meds from overseas.
Avatar f tn ) production has been suspended by the FDA due to reformulation/ FDA protocol issues. They changed the fillers/binders for some unknown reason and many long time users started having hypo symptoms on it. Many people have switched to Nature- throid and Westhroid (RLC Labs Pharm. Co.). There porcine dessicated hormone is doing fine for users nothing has been changed and they are not in trouble with the FDA.
Avatar n tn I take estriol as well, which the FDA has not approved. Sometimes the FDA is a bit behind and we have to do the best we can. There are risks, it is true, but I am weighing the risks against the benefits and I think the benefits come out on top in this case.
Avatar n tn I have low thyroid and I am taking Armour 30MG,can I take Alli for weight loss while taking Armour?
Avatar f tn ) I have asked about using either naturthyroid or armour thyroid and both my GP and specialist dismissed it as not safe because it is not FDA regulated.....
Avatar f tn There are fewer potency problems with Armour than Synthroid (check the FDA site); most practicing today do not know that Armour was the first and only medication to treat an underactive thyroid for many, many years. I am taking Armour after approximately 15 years on Synthroid, during which time I suffered debilitating fatigue and major hair loss.
Avatar m tn It is great that your wife has a doctor now that is actually willing to raise her Armour Thyroid dosage with that TSH. Don't know if the 1/4 grain will be enough or not. I do think she also needs to increase her Free T4 level beyond the effect from the 1/4 grain of Armour. Free T4 needs to be at the middle of its range, at minimum, Free T4 is important beyond just being available for conversion to T3.
1100339 tn?1257632597 After I started Armour Thyroid 4 months ago, the brain fog and most of the fatigue went away. I recently relocated, and it was very stressful. As soon as I relocated, the brain fog and the fatigue returned. I don't know if I'm just depressed, but why would that cause the same symptoms as my Hashi's? The Brain fog and lack of energy/Weakness is not a symptom of depression. Maybe my Adrenals? My doctor would NOT give me that test or treatment, since it's not FDA approved.
Avatar n tn Has anyone been on Synthroid/Levo for a long time 25 years for me and switched to Armour with success? After being miserable half my life I know am on 90mg Armour. I took Armour as achild and did great then got told to take the synthetic stuff. Finally got smart, read alot of info I had neglected and chose to change with different Doc..I am deperate for it to work. So anyone who has switched after so long a time I could use some input.
Avatar f tn A really excellent post, falldown. I might add that the TSH test does not reflect immediate thyroid hormone levels. It often "lags" by a couple of weeks. The other thing to look at is iodine intake. Falldown, you nailed that one right square on the head! These days there are people on a completely salt-free diet who end up with thyroid problems. The "idiot's Guide to the Thyroid" is very helpful in understanding thyroid problems. Another thing is to keep hydrated.
214901 tn?1227567555 What we need to keep in mind is that Armour is an FDA approved medicine and that medicine, along with others which are more widely used and/or accepted within society and medical professionals, doesn't make any one better or worse .. it is a very highly individualized basis between a patient and a doctor to determine what works best for whom, where, and how and why. That is my opinion as a patient who has been on Synthroid and on this community for over 2yrs now.
Avatar n tn But does it work?
