Avatar f tn Before I started Armour, I had severe cold spells, insomnia, weight gain (particularly thighs and hips), overall "puffiness", constipation, and bloating. I also had very little appetite and felt full really fast. I started with 15 mg. I also was diagnosed with estrogen dominance and low functioning adrenals. I felt better for a couple of months, but about 3 months after I started Armour, I started gaining weight like crazy.
906129 tn?1242398630 50mcg in the fall and started gaining weight especially in the stomach region, with the research I have been compiling I have come to the conclusion that if you have a t3 problem that is if your t4 is normal but it has a problem converting to t3 and your hypo you will gain weight also it raises your cortisol levels so that is why the stomach weight gain.
Avatar f tn Therefore to much thyroid meds can affect adrenals and in some have reverse affect and cause weight gain due to to much cortisol running rapid via my Doctor. I have been finding a lot of information on this since posting this earlier this morning because I thought my Doctor was crazy but it is true. I have gained in 4 months 15 lbs and here is my last test results. Thyroxine (T4) Free, Direct, S 1.74 ng/dL 0.82-1.77 F TSH <0.005 uIU/mL 0.450-4.500 F Reverse T3, Serum 20.3 ng/dL 9.
Avatar n tn all the time, seldom perspire unless humidity is high. I am 55yrs old, taken Armour thyroid for 2yrs for low thyroid, was dx with skin Sarcodosis 6yrs ago, complete hystorectomy 20yrs ago. I would appreciate your opinion on my dx and symptoms.
Avatar f tn I feel better mentally, but still have the weight problem and get very tired in the afternoon. I just read that i should be taking the Armour twice a day because the t3 has a short half life. I also think my dosage of 60 mg is to low. I was taking 75 of the synthroid. Can anyone comment on these things or has any advice about taking the Armour and what the dosage should be? anyone have any luck losing weight on these medecines?
Avatar n tn Your doctor is right, some symptoms can be similar and some (few ) people can gain weight, When you take Armour the free T3 is the most important. Why you're doctor gave you Armour instead of Levothyroxin (hve you tried it?)?
Avatar n tn I have kept the 5 pound weight gain and feel squishy and bloated all over ( a symptom I did not have prior to taking Armour) My doctor suggested taking half of the 1/4 dose and as soon as I did the insomnia came back. So I've stopped again. I think there is something else going but not sure what. I'm very frustrated. I feel like the Armour ruined my metabolism in some way??
205009 tn?1218559728 Sooner or later the doctors have got to put weight gain and thyroid together. Being told that we "eat" to much isn't the right answer. Some of us do but then a great deal of us don't!
Avatar f tn My 11 yr old daughter was recently tested for PCOS, per my request. She's had rapid weight gain since the age of 3. At best, I've been able to stablize her weight through diet and exercise, but only for a period of time. If she faulters, even slightly from healthy eating, she instantly gains weight. PCOS does run in my family - one sister was diagnosed in her early twenties, the other sister has all of the symptoms.
1646889 tn?1301481228 I never realized that there was a difference in AI and Adrenal fatigue. Mine must be fatigue. I have always been lean and fit, no weight loss, and I do exercise on a regular basis, just big shifts in energy, mood, etc., and very wierd symptoms when my T3 wears off. I tend to get most of my AF symptoms on days my thryoid meds are off (I have 20 AF symptoms, so I am confident that this is what I am dealing with).
Avatar f tn Ive heard of this med called, armour. Would this help with losing weight and improve over all condition? Or is adding t3 along with levo be beneficial? If so, what t3 would be recommended? Please, help!
667016 tn?1238891904 I was on Synthroid from Oct 07 to July 08 and did not lose weight in spite of exercise and a good diet. I switched to Armour in July and am now back at my ideal weight. I also feel much better on Armour.
Avatar f tn Only people who do not make their own T4 should have Armour because Armour is Pig Thyroid and they have higher levels of natural T4. My understanding is this is what produces adrenaline. You might feel good having the high levels of adrenaline in your system (which is the reason a lot of Armour patients report high satisfaction) but they also have the related heart, stroke etc problems. Think about what stress does to your system, this is adrenaline. I switched to Synthroid.
Avatar n tn Most weight gain is not thyroid related - even in thyroid patients. Armour is one way of treating hypothyroidism - it can be over-stimulating and some patients get anxiety, palpitations and tremors particularly if the dose is too high. Hypothyroidism has many sympotms - would go to the following link to read more http://www.aace.com/pub/thyroidbrochures/pdfs/Hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn Clearly your doctor is one that believes that TSH is a diagnostic, instead of just an indicator. You are right about raising the frees to alleviate symptoms. Free T3 correlates best with hypo symptoms. TSH correlates very poorly with hypo symptoms. So you are going to have to talk with your doctor and give him information along this line, in order to get him to change his approach.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your input. I hope this works. I just started Tuesday but I am so inpatient. This has been goin on for 5 months. My weight gain is increasing by the week and I am exhausted all the time. Gimel-I don't know what a PM is --let me know.
12182312 tn?1427683956 I have gained a lot of weight. I was just curious. Besides diet and exercise, have thyroid meds helped with any weight loss?
744962 tn?1270942038 I dont think taking thyroxin with Armour is wise as the Armour already has a T4 med in it and you are taking T4 as well (thyroxin). Is there any reason for this? Usually you are one or the other. All you are doing by taking thyroxin is to 'boost' the Armour. And that in itself would cause symptoms as it could elevate your FT4 which then converts to T3...hence the tremors..
Avatar f tn I am now seeing a new dr because I cannot lose weight, have no energy and only gain weight, and this is the first time after several drs and even my previous, that I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, this new Dr wants me on Armour. He said my other doctors were not looking at the total picture and ordering all the labs needed. My labs are- T4- 1.18. TSH- 3.530 TPO- 69 T3- 2.9 My D is 25.5 A1c 6.2 Insulin 15.
Avatar f tn I suffer from tiredness, weight gain even after trying many different exercises and dieting, lack of energy, depression, etc and I feel guilty all the time. My doctor prescribed me Levo Thyroxin 50 mg but after 3 weeks I discontinued it after some previous users informed me about the acne, weight gain experienced by them after using this synthetic thyroxin. I am on contraceptive pills so I am concerned about whether I can take both or whether the contraceptive pills affect the Levo Thyroxin .
Avatar n tn He is sick and tired of feeling tired, etc and is planning on taking Armour Thyroid. He has seen how Armour Thyroid has helped me this past year and a half as well as seeing what it has done to make his sister feel so much better the past 3 months. I honestly feel since he's had extensive blood work done and they did find below normal testosterone, low amino acids, low cortesole (sp) and some other things.
