Aripiprazole serotonin

Common Questions and Answers about Aripiprazole serotonin

abilify

Avatar m tn I would try replacing the Aripiprazole (Abilify) and the Sertraline (Zoloft) by taking 25mg of 5-HTP 3x Daily for 1 week as anymore than this could induce Serotonin Syndrome. I would then recommend swapping the tablets out for a 5-HTP transdermal patch which will release a more even dose of 5-HTP throughout the day especially if you have BPD as otherwise the oral form could cause mania.
Avatar m tn The other two target other neurotransmitters along with serotonin. The possible danger is getting serotonin syndrome, which is an overdose basically of serotonin. It's not common to get it, but when you start combining meds the way you are, you also combine side effects and if you combine meds that work on the same neurotransmitter it is possible to cause serotonin syndrome, or even if you don't, too many side effects of going after the same mechanism in the brain.
Avatar f tn I might be pregnant and my psychiatrist told me not to worry about the embryo. He told me that even while I'm taking 15 mg of Aripiprazole and 50 mg of Sertraline daily, there is no danger. I'm really worried. if I'm pregnant, would these doses harm my embryo being taken daily?
Avatar f tn What is the lethal dose of aripiprazole, quetiapine and lamotrigine? Mix of them.

Avatar f tn Hello there, Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ( SSRI like Lexapro ) work by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin neurotransmitters. What it means is that you will keep the serotonin active longer before throwing it out ( to keep it simple ). It doesn't boost the serotonin production, it just make better use of the serotonin already present ( here again to keep it simple ). Your body is always producing serotonin and Lexapro only make a better use of this already produced serotonin.
Avatar m tn s no evidence anyone has more or less serotonin than anyone else. What ssris do is prevent the breakdown of serotonin so it soaks the neuron longer in it. This isn't the natural way the body acts, but these meds have helped many people. But whether you want to take them or not, or need them or not, is up to you. They won't cure you, they will only mitigate the symptoms you're having. If there is a cure, it's through therapy.
Avatar f tn 2 anti psychotics, one is trifluoperazine and trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride combo and other one aripiprazole mt 5 and 1 mg of lorazepam for sleep. i want to see my pdoc but i am afraid he will give me ect as i saw some nurses in his room which i never seen in past 12 years. i am quite numb and can't respond to any kind of assault. it is really frustrating. since i am on anti psychotics, can i stop it by taking half for 15 days and then quarter for 15 days.
Avatar f tn I have been off my meds because i ran out of refills for 21 days now (i used to take 10mg aripiprazole, 80mg duloxotine, and bupropion HCL XL 300mg.) i dont know if that would effect my period but it’s worth a shot putting it out there. I feel as though something is really wrong but I cannot afford a doctor/emergency care because i have no insurance or income. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Does anyone know what’s happening with my body?
Avatar f tn Venlafaxine is used to treat general anxiety and abilify(aripiprazole) is used to treat depression. Good luck!!!!
Avatar f tn I have just started taking Aripiprazole(Abilify) and have found it to have some beneficial effects on my mood. However I am also finding myself to be extremely drowsy. I have heard that this side effect wears off with time. Has anyone else experienced this? It's the first antipsychotic I've taken that's had any effect so I don't want to stop it but the fact I can literally go to sleep while standing up is making my life difficult.
Avatar f tn You could try taking it in the morning because it typically keeps people awake and causes restlessness. Also, when i first started on aripiprazole (abilify) i experienced some side effects but they went away after a couple of weeks. Hopefully yours will go away as well, if they don't go away, however, talk to your psychiatrist. You don't have to deal with any unwanted side effects if you don't want to. That is what mine always tells me anyways....
Avatar f tn Call your doctor and let him know what's happening, so you will know if this is a result of either medication. Serotonin Syndrome causes fluctuations in blood pressure but that is the only symptom you have. Try getting up slower and see if this helps, it sounds like your blood pressure isn't rising fast enough upon standing causing the dizziness. This happens to all of us once in awhile but when it's constant you need to get checked out.
Avatar m tn t think it is possible to have a serotonin syndrome from taking buspar and/or THC. Neither of these things effect your serotonin levels or your serotonin receptors. All medications that could cause this have to have the warning in the drug label. Buspar does not have anything about this. As far as "other" drugs that can cause this issue, stay away from ecstasy, LSD and Cocaine. Here is a good site with more information http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn Is it possible to get a mild form of serotonin syndrome from taking Buspar 10mg twice a day and also smoking some concentrated THC (wax)? This thought has come and gone for me for a few weeks because I haven't felt the same ever since. I thought I may have chronic fatigue syndrome (I suspected I have fibromyalgia too) but I am now thinking it could have been serotonin syndrome recently.
Avatar f tn Oh, I forget to mention.... It is very unlikly that his problem was related to the Cymbalta causing Serotonin Syndrome. That's because Cymbalta does not act on Serotonin such as more traditional SSRI medications do. Cymbalta is an SNRI and acts mainly on Neurephinepherine neurotransmitters, and not Serotonin Neurotransmitters.
Avatar n tn Has anyone ever had Serotonin syndrome. I am desperate to talk with someone else that has experienced this horrible event.
Avatar n tn Told my boyfriend to make a promise to take me to a psychiatrist. Obviously I have serotonin syndrome, but nobody seems to listen. I can tell it's affecting my kidneys now...major withdrawals symptoms, etc. Has anyone ever had it before and it is just my imagination or should I be seeking immediate care, or do I continue my days of malaise until my 2-7 weeks is up? please answer...desperately seeking answers...
Avatar m tn The next day I took no more adderall, and still experienced the same symptoms, so the day after that I decided to stop taking my Effexor as well, fearing possible Serotonin toxicity. Its been a little over 72 hours without the effexor and I cant see any relief of symptoms with the mental side of things. I no longer have the muscle spasms and fast hart rate but my mind still seems in a fog. What could this be caused by??
Avatar f tn Can serotonin syndrome develop gradually and be mild vs just the short term acute serious descriptions I've read? I have unexplained neuro sx including clonus and hyperreflexia and have been taking 20 mg of celebs for over 5 yrs. is this a possible cause?
Avatar n tn I appreciate everyones comments. I guess it all depends on one's body chemistry. Alot of people out there take 200mg of Zoloft and alot of people take 25mgs. What works for one, obviously does not work for all. If one's serotonin levels are "borderline" and they take a lower dose of whatever med, it stands to reason that to much would or could have a bad effect.
Avatar f tn If you experience fever then there is high chance you have either serotonin or a viral infection. In contrary to the calming effect of serotonin, serotonin syndrome will mostly make you hyperactive, stiff, tremors and in the worse case will cause fever and this when it is potentially dangerous. Anxiety and stress can cause tremors too. If you have been stressed out lately then it could explain the tremors too and also various aches.
