arimidex

Avatar n tn Hi there, Thank you for writing to us here, though I am sorry that you are struggling with side effects from the result of breast cancer medication. I am also a breast cancer survivor, however as I am triple negative, the hormonal drugs are not effective for me so unfortunately I cant speak from experience. However, that doesn't mean that I cant find out some interesting information for you in relation to libido and Arimidex.
Avatar f tn m not sure if it was just a mistake or if you intentionally made this a poll between Arimidex and its side effects, or breast cancer. If so, only your vote counts. You are the only one who can decide what is the best decision for you. I didn't see any question in your post, but if you do have one, we'd be glad to try to help.
Avatar n tn The fatigue you describe is a side effect of Arimidex but the edema is certainly related to your Congestive Heart Failure. I would suggest that you discuss your present condition with your Oncologist as well as seeking treatment from your Cardiologist for the CHF. Regards ....
1030058 tn?1252253572 I have now nearly completed 5 years of Arimidex, My Oncologist ir recommending that in October I change to Femara secondary to a clinical trial which has concluded that I am at some risk of the cancer still recurring. I am unsure about this as the side effects of the arimidex hot flashes, weight gain etc causing me to be on a high dose of Effexor are quite debilitating at times. What are my risks if I choose to just stop the Arimidex and not continue with a change to Femara...
Avatar n tn Hello, I read of your concern regarding the prescribing of Arimidex for your mothers metastatic breast cancer. I can tell you that the test results were so good for Arimidex that they stopped the tests early and started prescribing it. I was prescribed it for breast cancer that had spread by following the aorta to my stomache and intestines etc. The important thing is that I survived for over 7 years on Arimidex with very little side effects.
Avatar m tn I have been told I am in the 2% range.. which to me is not worth the horrible side effects of Arimidex.
Avatar f tn Hi, Even with a total hysterectomy, the body will still produce some estrogen which is effectively blocked with an aromatase inhibitor (such as arimidex,Femara etc). In one study, aromatase inhibitors were found to offer greater benefit than tamoxifen in Post- menopausal women.Tamoxifen blocks the estrogen especially to the breast tissue. This is an important distinction because aromatase inhibitors cannot be used in Pre- menopausal women.
Avatar m tn Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with breast cancer and after my lumpectomy and radiation, my oncologist started me on Tamoxifen. Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible.
Avatar f tn s been 9 months now since I started Arimidex and so far, the side effects are (Thank God) minimal.I too have arthritis and the pain is really not much worse than before. Each person reacts differently to certain medications and if you see that the Arimidex does give you too many problems, your oncologist can prescribe another one that will suit you better.
Avatar m tn t believe you will see much hair growth. For further information on side effects from Arimidex the enclosed link is to an Arimidex Forum, check it: http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=20541&name=arimidex Don't forget Arimidex is an Estrogen Inhibitor, that should give you a clue on what to expect. Take your time and read all you can from the enclosed forum link. Best regards.
962875 tn?1314210036 As many of you know or have experienced, the AIs ( Arimidex, Femara, Aromasin), which are used to treat hormone-receptor positve breast cancer, often produce joint or muscle pain as a side effect. For about 20% of women, the side effects are so severe that they stop taking their medicine, which increases the risk that their breast cancer will recur.
Avatar n tn Of course you can stop Femara if the side effects become too much to deal with. I have stopped Arimidex after three days, Femara after 28 days, and now Aromasin (?) after only three days as well. (And I did not take this lightly, believe me!) But you have to try something before you can make a decision the stop?
Avatar n tn It is of course her decision re whether lowering the risk in her case is worth enduring the side effects. If she does choose to take an AI and the side effects of Arimidex are intolerable, she could see if she would do better on a different one. However, in at least one recent study, Arimidex came out ahead of the others in preventing recurrence. Best wishes to both you and your wife...
Avatar f tn this is commonly done for women who have experienced breast cancer and there is good data to show that this reduces recurrences in breast cancer. the data for ovarian cancer is not so clear. There definitely are side effects to femara! Tamoxifen usually gives the least side effects but Arimidex may be OK as well. For women with BRCA1 mutation, there is good information to suggest that a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy is the best risk reducing intervention.
Avatar f tn pr- and hr1, she had had neo-adj chemo , masectomy and radiation, the tumour biopsy states that the tumour is weakly positive for er, she has been advised armidex. it was a locally advanced cancer. thinking if armidex will benefit, is it worth the side affects. This discussion is related to er pr her-2 nue negative test results.
Avatar n tn Are the pains associated from radiation damage or side effects of Arimidex? Has anyone answered that for you?
Avatar n tn I have stage1 breast cancer. Both breast. I have had a lumpectomy. Lymph nodes clear. After surgery had mammosite. Should I do hormone therapy? I also had ovarian cancer 2 yrs. ago. Stage 1A also. Doing well here. Took chemo for OV. and left me with aching legs and joints. The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
Avatar n tn the most common side effects seen with ARIMIDEX include hot flashes, joint symptoms, weakness, mood changes, pain, sore throat, nausea and vomiting, depression, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, swelling of arms/legs, and headache. Fractures (including fractures of the spine, hip, and wrist) occurred more frequently with ARIMIDEX than with tamoxifen (10% vs 7%). As for the burning...I,personally,have never been able to use anything but Ivory. Allergies.
Avatar n tn A related discussion, Arimidex causing numbness tiingling, burning fingertips and feet up to midcalf was started.
Avatar f tn Early results from this study indicate that Zometa in combination with endocrine therapy (goserelin plus tamoxifen or goserelin plus arimidex) lowers the 5-year risk for breast cancer recurrence by 36% compared to those women who were being given endocrine therapy alone. Zometa apparently not only prevented bone metastases, but metastases to other body parts as well. It also decreased recurrence risk in the unaffected breast.
1162347 tn?1293503170 Once over my first cancer, my oncologist requested a bilateral breast MRI + bilateral mammogram+ clinical exam. Had them all, the MRI and clinical exam were clean but the right breast mammogram showed clustered lobular micro calcifications and a surgical biopsy recommended. Two days later I had the biopsy & 1/3 of my right breast was removed with a slight reconstruction.
Avatar n tn Many studies have shown that there is sufficient evidence to support that Arimidex or other similar drugs, reduce significantly the risk of recurrence as well as cancer in the opposite breast, especially if you had an aggressive type of breast cancer.Unfortunately, this medication which is a "necessary evil", does cause a lot of side effects, but the benefits must always be weighed against the possible risks.
