Common Questions and Answers about Arimidex prostate cancer

arimidex

Avatar m tn I was on androgel for several years with good libido results before discontinuing due to prostate cancer. After brachytherapy for my cancer, I am in remission, and after 2+ years resumed taking androgel. I am on androgel again, and have high Testosterone levels (about 1000), but my libido has never recovered. I also have had hypothyroidism, but have been taking synthroid for it for many years with no adverse impact on my libido. Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do?

Avatar f tn Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
Avatar n tn Hello, I read of your concern regarding the prescribing of Arimidex for your mothers metastatic breast cancer. I can tell you that the test results were so good for Arimidex that they stopped the tests early and started prescribing it. I was prescribed it for breast cancer that had spread by following the aorta to my stomache and intestines etc. The important thing is that I survived for over 7 years on Arimidex with very little side effects.
Avatar n tn Also confirm whether clinical tests proved that arimidex really prevent cancer from returning. Recently I had a lumpectomy. The cancer was confined to the lump in my breast and did not spread to the limph nodes. I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density? Thank you very much. Susan.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Arimidex for 2 years, and all symptoms increase, including CHF. Are these symptoms Arimedex related?
Avatar n tn The treatment in the past did not sufficiently monitor an already aggressive type of cancer, HER2. Being told the cancer is never cured but dormant should change some thinking based on today's findings. If a body can resist Tamoxifen over time why would you not use scans? Tumors under 1cm may not be detected but once an area enlarges beyond 1cm the only weapon is the scan.
1030058 tn?1252253572 I am approaching 5 years clear of Breast cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 1 ER+ right breast cancer in 2004. No node involvement at all. However it was also Her2neu positive. I had a trt mastectomy w/ 16 lymph nodes excised, all negative. I then had 4 cycles of Adriamycin and Cytoxin.
503702 tn?1276176714 Just started arimidex for 9 days and had nasuea switch me to Femara. Anyone having good results? Im in recurrence of OVCA after 15thms. did chemo and avastin trial. Thank you.
Avatar f tn m not sure if it was just a mistake or if you intentionally made this a poll between Arimidex and its side effects, or breast cancer. If so, only your vote counts. You are the only one who can decide what is the best decision for you. I didn't see any question in your post, but if you do have one, we'd be glad to try to help.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with T2N0M0 breast cancer and went for mastectomy followed by 4 sessions of Taxotere. Now my doctor prescribed Aromasin alone for 5 years. He did not give me Tamoxifen first followed by Aromasin, but just Aromasin for 5 years. Is this acceptable ? I am 57 years old, mother of 4 children. Please advise.
Avatar f tn Chemo goes through your entire system and kills cells that are currently present and possibly hiding elsewhere (your positive node implies cancer cells have moved outside your breast) and Arimidex simply helps prevent recurrence. Ultimately, the treatment choice is yours. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn could be your partners secretions could be too alkaline.. which can be cause by prostate cancer and certain foods....I am not experiencing cramping but I had already gone through menapause when I started taking the tamoxifen. I understand that most people tolerate tamoxifen well. That being said.. everybody responds to meds differently. You know what you feel. Ask your doctor for help. Some women do have their ovaries removed to stop the production of estrogen.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer and underwent a bilateral mastectomy eventhough my tumors were considered to be small--level1. My mother had breast cancer twice, first time did a lumpectomy and tons of radiation and was pronounced cancer free after five years. The next year the cancer was back and she had a mastectomy. My question is since my tumors were small even if they were estrogen fed shouldn't the mastectomy have been enough.
Avatar n tn Is painfful intercourse a common side effect of Arimidex? I even have pain from just touching the vaginal area, plus burning from contact to various soaps except Ivory. Will this go away when I get off of Arimidex in 3 more years? My obgyn wants to give me estrogen cream but my oncologist is against it. What can I do to get relief? HELP!
107366 tn?1305680375 s seem to be the choice for me at the moment (I actually have Ovarian cancer, not Breast Cancer. But my doc wants to treat as if I do have Breast Cacer because of the relation to estrogen). But, I have noticed more and more pain the longer I take it. My ankles, legs, knees, arms and wrists get so stiff and sore, and I feel like I'm 90 when I try to get up. I have oral pain meds...Lortab...
Avatar m tn Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
Avatar m tn Dear madwilson, Hairloss is not a usual side effect associated with Arimidex. Arimidex is an aromatase inhibitor. This means it blocks the enzyme aromatase (found in the body's muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. For more information regarding this drug and side effects you can check out the website chemocare.com.
1446961 tn?1284577797 I am on the tamoxifen, it has side effects also and a possiblity of getting uterus cancer but unless you have a history of cancer chances are very slim.Try talking with your oncologist again and tell him that you are not taking this drug and to switch you to one that you can take. I myself had to try 2 before they put me on tamoxifen and that was due to me having a cancer history. I pray it works out for you as you have gone through enough without these drugs causing you more pain.
Avatar n tn Hi there! I had breast cancer (stage 1) 2 1/2 yrs. ago - had a mastectomy, followed by chemo. I'm now on tamoxifen. I've been having moderate hip and shoulder pain for the past 6 mos. or so - can't cross my legs easily, especially bothers me when I'm sitting or less active. Any cause for concern here? I've been avoiding doing anything about it, as it is not as bothersome some times.
Avatar f tn Early results from this study indicate that Zometa in combination with endocrine therapy (goserelin plus tamoxifen or goserelin plus arimidex) lowers the 5-year risk for breast cancer recurrence by 36% compared to those women who were being given endocrine therapy alone. Zometa apparently not only prevented bone metastases, but metastases to other body parts as well. It also decreased recurrence risk in the unaffected breast.
