They say that the bad symptoms will eventually disappear and I sure hope that the belly problem will follow suit .My surgeon is thinking of prescribing Arimidex for an additional 2 years for better protection :( So after a total of seven years on this medicine, I hope that I'll have the strength to even exercise on my treadmill.. LOL...
Anyway,I am just thankful that I am cancer free now, hoping that the Arimidex is doing it's job .

I found this information for you.I am also taking Arimidex and of course I am very interested in knowing more about this medication.My breast surgeon told me also that by taking Arimidex reduces the development of new breast cancers by 50 per cent.

I do not want to do chemo and radiation but am very willing to do arimidex i am post menopausal 53 yrs old. If arimidex does the job it says why do chemo? Radiation? I have been out of work and my life disrupted for a month and am already loosing everything due to financial stress 6 more months of treatment with chemo and work disruption i fear will ruin me. What are my chances with just arimidex treatment? PET scan shows negative to any cancer anywhere else.
I saw my eye doctor again last week and my vision has deteriorated from 20/40 to 20/70 (with correction) in just a few months. Eye problems are not listed as a side effect of Arimidex in any of the information I have been given, but I am wondering if this could be a less common side effect. Is this something I should discuss with my oncologist?

There are many pharmaceutical sites that get quite technical about the composition and side effects of the drug in question.
What I found interesting, was that after looking at my favorite top 5, increase and decrease in libido was not even mentioned although they were quick to note side effects such as depression, vaginal dryness and legathy.
I have been on arimidex for about 2 months (since Feb. 2009), switched from tamoxifen after 1 year on tamoxifen. My white blood cell count the month before I started arimidex (Jan.) was 4.2. When I had a blood test more than 2 weeks ago (April 8), my WBC count was 3.3. Could this be a side effect of arimidex?
FYI -- I was diagnosed in May 2007: IDC, stage 1, 1cm., e.r. +, grade 3, negative lymph nodes. I had chemo (1 infusion TC, 6 infusions CMF) Aug. 2007 to Jan.
Will broccoli seed extract capsules interfere with Arimidex if I take them both? Apparently broccoli seed extract is also an aromatase inhibitor. I am on Arimidex and blood tests indicate that it is working, as my estrogen levels are low. But a 24-hour urine test prescribed by an M.D. with a holistic practice showed a problem in one of my estrogen pathways, and recommended a broccoli seed extract with SGS (sulforaphane glucosinolate). Might it enhance or interfere with Arimidex?
So my wife feels obligated to her family and herself to take the medication to prevent cancer from reoccuring which could cause her early and preventable death. Can we get better advice based on some information that specifically applies?

Can anyone tell me anything about half dose of arimidex. I recently started with the 1mg dose of arimidex (standard) and feel horrible. Tired, shaky, mental fog, very emotional. I weigh only 124lb and recently had my ovaries removed, so my question is: why do I have to take the full 1mg of Armidex when women who are heavier than me and still have their ovaries take the same dosage. Will a half dose or every other day dose be just as effective for me?
Had a 16% decline in my heart fuction, according to my Muga Scans. I have been on Arimidex along with Lupron shots for almost 2 years now. It is suppose to be a 5 year plan. Now that I am 34, I am starting to worry about ever having a family. That these drugs have been shutting down my ovaries for so long, it may become permident. There really is no information on what kind of comes can occur. I have been thinking about stopping these treatments.

I am taking Arimidex (dx May 2007, IDC, 1 cm., grade 3, negative lymph nodes; had lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy, chemo, radiation; I was 54 and perimenopausal at time of dx and chemo put me in menopause.) I also now occasionally consult a holistic MD (referred by my oncologist) for nutritional advice.
ve completed 4 cycles of Taxotere and Cytoxan. I have been on Arimidex for 4 months. What might be my chances of a distant metastasis? I have pre-osteopenia per a bone density. My oncologist said I might consider Zometa infusions which would be given every 6 months. Does it only help prevent bone metastasis or other mets as well? I know the research is still out on this but an early study indicated a greater than 30% reduction in risk of bone mets. That seems substantial.
Been on Arimidex 26 months. Having numbness in hands and feet. Oncologist doesn't think it's related to Arimidex. Anyone have this problem while on this drug?
I just completed 5 years on arimidex and have been asked to be part of a study and go on it for another 5 years. Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
Is that what your doctor has suggested? That you have your ovaries removed? You state that you are estrogen/progesteron positive, etc, but we know absolutely nothing else about your history, treatment, or even you type of cancer, or your age.
I was also pro/estrogen positive. Do you think I should have my ovaries removed?
They weren't, and maybe that was because I was 48 when diagnosed, but the thought did come up, and then discarded by my oncologist.
Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years! DeeDee

Is painfful intercourse a common side effect of Arimidex? I even have pain from just touching the vaginal area, plus burning from contact to various soaps except Ivory. Will this go away when I get off of Arimidex in 3 more years?
My obgyn wants to give me estrogen cream but my oncologist is against it. What can I do to get relief? HELP!
At age 59 I also had a 12 mm tumor, grade 2 negative sentinel node, Estrogen positive, Her2/neu negative. Originally I was to begin Arimidex with no need for chemo or radiation as I had double mastectomy. My oncologist suggested an additional test called Oncotype DX to determine a recurrence score based on past models of tumors with the same genetic markers. My recurrence score was relatively high with 20% chance of recurrence.
With respect to hormonal therapies that suppress or block the action of estrogen, there is a study called ATAC (Arimidex, Tamoxifen, Alone or in Combination). Updated results were presented at the latest San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (December 2007). I read about it in the Women & Cancer Magazine (Spring 2008, pg. 88). I suggest those undergoing hormonal therapy to look into the convenience of combining the medicine, to benefit from both of them.
