Avatar n tn Does anyone have low grade serous ovarian cancer? my daughter is 26 years old, had total hysterectomy and two failed rounds of chemo. I heard low grade does not respond to chemo. What other options are out there?
Avatar n tn I had Stage 4 ovarian cancer last year with great results, but I now have a "thickening" that the oncologist is watching she decided to be pro-active and placed me on the generic form of tamoxifin which it turns out I am very sensitive to, as I explained to the doctor, If I continue on this medication I will also need a flea collar. The itching is terrible, I went off of it twice now and tried to restart it again with the same results.
107366 tn?1305680375 s seem to be the choice for me at the moment (I actually have Ovarian cancer, not Breast Cancer. But my doc wants to treat as if I do have Breast Cacer because of the relation to estrogen). But, I have noticed more and more pain the longer I take it. My ankles, legs, knees, arms and wrists get so stiff and sore, and I feel like I'm 90 when I try to get up. I have oral pain meds...Lortab...
Avatar f tn this is commonly done for women who have experienced breast cancer and there is good data to show that this reduces recurrences in breast cancer. the data for ovarian cancer is not so clear. There definitely are side effects to femara! Tamoxifen usually gives the least side effects but Arimidex may be OK as well. For women with BRCA1 mutation, there is good information to suggest that a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy is the best risk reducing intervention.
Avatar f tn There is good experience with tamoxifen in women with ovarian cancer. In about 20 % of women, it will slow the grow of cancer cells. It is reasonable to consider this when there is no obvious sign of cancer. I know it must be very anxiety producing!
Avatar f tn I was stage II and had 36 lymph nodes removed in a second surgery. All of which were negative (one node was found to have a spec of cancer during the initial surgery - doctor called it a floater). I underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy which ended last April. The breast cancer was only in my right breast, however the doctor said the MRI reflected that the left side didn't look normal - things were changing.
431950 tn?1262819314 I have been battling Ovarian Cancer Stage IIIc since Nov 05. Now my lymph node near my aorta and in the pelvic area are growing and I have lost 100 lbs in a year. I was on a chemo pill for 2 months Atoposide and it didn't work so what can be done now? What if anything can stop these lymph nodes from growing? I will try anything, herbs, etc if you know of anything. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes clear. After surgery had mammosite. Should I do hormone therapy? I also had ovarian cancer 2 yrs. ago. Stage 1A also. Doing well here. Took chemo for OV. and left me with aching legs and joints. The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
Avatar f tn I am interested in the question Kat asked you too. I would have my estrogen level checked to see how much the body is producing right now and to see if you're post menopausal. Not having a period after chemo doesn't mean menopause as I found out myself. If you're post menopausal then a hysterectomy/oopherectomy isn't really going to do anything but reduce your risk of ovarian/falopian tube cancer.

Avatar f tn Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
Avatar n tn Hello, I read of your concern regarding the prescribing of Arimidex for your mothers metastatic breast cancer. I can tell you that the test results were so good for Arimidex that they stopped the tests early and started prescribing it. I was prescribed it for breast cancer that had spread by following the aorta to my stomache and intestines etc. The important thing is that I survived for over 7 years on Arimidex with very little side effects.
Avatar n tn Also confirm whether clinical tests proved that arimidex really prevent cancer from returning. Recently I had a lumpectomy. The cancer was confined to the lump in my breast and did not spread to the limph nodes. I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density? Thank you very much. Susan.
Avatar f tn I have an ovarian cancer (carcinoma, cerous), operated in November 2004, had 4 courses before and 3 after an operation of topotekan/oxaliplatin, in 7 month recurrence, treated by 11 courses carboplatin/taxol, 1 course of CAP, in 8 month recurrence - now undergo 7th course of doxil. CT shows reduction of the main tumor by about half, metastasis in liver (reduced a little), lungs, limfoid node in groin enlarged. What is the best way forward for me? Would be grateful for advise.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Arimidex for 2 years, and all symptoms increase, including CHF. Are these symptoms Arimedex related?
Avatar f tn Dear Setter, You have received the good, standard chemotherapy drugs for recurrent ovarian cancer. There have been studies looking at anti estrogen and anti aromatase drugs for women with recurrence ovarian cancer. The drugs that have been used include tamoxifen, arimidex, letrozole. The response rate has varied from 0 to 50 %.. there may be correlation with the hormone receptor status of your tumor but this has not been well studied.
Avatar f tn I have had low grade ovarian cancer for 14 years. I had a hysterectomy in 1994. I have had chemo three times and each time my ca125 gets higher. My cancer has been controlled all these years with anti estrogens. Lately my Onco/gyno has left me on Tamoxifen when in the past I would take Arimidex when the Tamoxifen ran out. Whenever it runs out I fill up with ascites. It is usually honey colored when it is drained. This time it was a deep red.
Avatar n tn The treatment in the past did not sufficiently monitor an already aggressive type of cancer, HER2. Being told the cancer is never cured but dormant should change some thinking based on today's findings. If a body can resist Tamoxifen over time why would you not use scans? Tumors under 1cm may not be detected but once an area enlarges beyond 1cm the only weapon is the scan.
564735 tn?1263943526 I did ask my doctor why has my CA-125 remained normal while my CEA was elevated. He said my cancer is uncommon in that it is acting more like colon cancer than ovarian cancer...yes it is ovarian cancer. It is for that reason they chose to go with a different chemo regime than taxil/carbo. So 1 down and 3 more to go. My doctor was very positive about my progress and my prognosis. Thanks for all the support and information.
