Common Questions and Answers about Arimidex more drug side effects

arimidex

Avatar n tn The Doctor checked with an endocrinologist. The Arimidex is blocking the estrogen production and the body recognizes the testosterone more readily and reacts. Are there other women with this reaction?
Avatar m tn In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. For more information regarding this drug and side effects you can check out the website chemocare.com. Avatar n tn Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible. I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody.
Avatar n tn Femara and similar drugs in its class really have musculo-skeletal symptoms as the main side effects. This drug can cause decrease in bone density and bone mass leading to osteoporosis and sometimes increased tendency to have fractures.
Avatar n tn Please inform me of side effects of Arimidex. Also confirm whether clinical tests proved that arimidex really prevent cancer from returning. Recently I had a lumpectomy. The cancer was confined to the lump in my breast and did not spread to the limph nodes. I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density? Thank you very much. Susan.
Avatar n tn Well, for me Arimidex was so very horrible, I barely lasted three days on it. I was in an almost catatonic state of depression two hours after I took the first dose, and then got just about every other bad side effect soon after. Femara, in comparison, relative to the other, was not so bad at all and I lasted almost thirty days. But not every woman has the same problems, or any at all. Many though do have some problems.
Avatar m tn The endocrinologist wants to put him on that. I'm reading side effects and I don't feel comfortable giving it to him. I am going for second opinion. Just wanted to see if any other parents had experience with this drug.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Hallucinations are not listed as a side effect of Arimidex on the chemo drug Web site or a Web site providing detailed info about medications in general, nor was it listed as a side effect in an older version of the PDR I have at home. Not saying that means it couldn't still be related to Arimidex, but is your friend taking any other meds that might have caused this symptom?
Avatar m tn You should keep in mind however that you MUST weigh the side effects against the positive effect of taking the drug. Often you can be switched to another drug with similar benefits and lessen the side effects. All the drugs in this class can produce the same untoward effects but not all persons will experience all of them OR to the same degree. NEVER discontinue any drug until you have discussed it with your team of Dr.s Regards....
534810 tn?1213327718 Hi there. This side effect is really not so common with femara and with similar drugs like arimidex. However, this do happen and with the proximity of the symptoms to the intake of the drug, you can't help but point this side effects on the drug (especially if the symptoms are relieved upon drug withdrawal).
Avatar n tn t any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..
Avatar n tn Oh well I guess I have no other option. Any thoughts? How bad are your side effects and do they disappear eventually?
962875 tn?1314210036 As many of you know or have experienced, the AIs ( Arimidex, Femara, Aromasin), which are used to treat hormone-receptor positve breast cancer, often produce joint or muscle pain as a side effect. For about 20% of women, the side effects are so severe that they stop taking their medicine, which increases the risk that their breast cancer will recur.
1446961 tn?1284577797 You might even have to weigh the benefits vs. these severe side effects and have to discontinue the drug on the basis of the findings. Please understand that I NEVER encourage anyone to stop taking a drug but rarely there does come a time when it may be necessary to maintain some quality of life. Regards ....
Avatar f tn You need to take into consideration the advantage of one drug over the other .... in some cases it may be worth the adverse effects. I suppose the switch back was fully approved by your Oncologist. Regards ....
Avatar f tn In post menopausal patients whose ovaries are not functional anymore, aromatase inhibitors would be the choice drug (this class also has less cardiovascular side effects but somewhat more musculoskeletal side effects like fractures). Hormonal treatment increases the chance that the cancer will not come back. Discontinuing this drug may do just the opposite. Regards.
Avatar f tn My friend has been taking Arimidex for two years and has all the usual side effects--hot flashes, muscle aches, lack of sleep but, in spite of all her exercising and walking and careful eating, all of the weight gain has been in her stomach and she is at a loss of what to do to lose it. Nothing seems to work and she's very unhappy with that particular location? Anyone else know of weight gain from the drug at that spot specifically?
Avatar n tn However, in these small studies, they have found promising results in lessening the pain and bleeding episodes from endometriosis treated with arimidex. I would also just like to caution on the possible side effects of these drugs such as bone pains or fractures. Regards.
Avatar n tn t try one of them and see what side effects you experience and then either switch to another drug or discontinue altogether if the side effects are severe. I do think it's the best path to take with lumpectomy. Regards ....
Avatar f tn t have the side effects of all the drugs readily available. You might ck. where all drugs are listed along with their side effects. If side effects are to the point of danger to other bodily systems they can always either be switched or even stopped if necessary. Regards ....
Avatar f tn I decided to continue taking it as Novartis said the side effects may be transient. Then.... after another month or so I did develop trigger finger to my thumb which became very painful. Still painful with 600mg of Ibuprofen. The Oncologist & I met again and I am off for 30 days and will then start Arimidex as Novartis indicated switching often helps, with side effects abating or decreasing with a switch.
