Arimidex inhibitor

Common Questions and Answers about Arimidex inhibitor

arimidex

Avatar m tn Dear madwilson, Hairloss is not a usual side effect associated with Arimidex. Arimidex is an aromatase inhibitor. This means it blocks the enzyme aromatase (found in the body's muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. For more information regarding this drug and side effects you can check out the website chemocare.com.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am taking Arimidex (dx May 2007, IDC, 1 cm., grade 3, negative lymph nodes; had lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy, chemo, radiation; I was 54 and perimenopausal at time of dx and chemo put me in menopause.) I also now occasionally consult a holistic MD (referred by my oncologist) for nutritional advice.
Avatar n tn Will broccoli seed extract capsules interfere with Arimidex if I take them both? Apparently broccoli seed extract is also an aromatase inhibitor. I am on Arimidex and blood tests indicate that it is working, as my estrogen levels are low. But a 24-hour urine test prescribed by an M.D. with a holistic practice showed a problem in one of my estrogen pathways, and recommended a broccoli seed extract with SGS (sulforaphane glucosinolate). Might it enhance or interfere with Arimidex?
Avatar f tn ll know your best bet is to continue on with Arimidex, or swith to another Aromatase Inhibitor if your CA125 continues to rise after the first month. If it comes back negative, then you and your doctor can then decide which chemo to try next. I'm of the mindset that I don't want to be in a clincal trial until I see there are no other options for me.
Avatar f tn I tried first tamoxifen made me tired and nausous then I tried Femara, the pain was so great in my joints and muscle went off it I am now on Arimidex and 5 months into it it seems ok. I have gone off it once before one of my races because of pain. Arimidex is in the same family as femara only a little gentler..As my doctor said he doesn't know if it will help and it is not chemo but I am 16 months past chemo and have been on an estrogen blocker the whole time.
Avatar n tn t know what it could be nor the oncologist. I am on an arimatase inhibitor called Arimidex which could account for bad taste but the mucus is the problem. Thanks for any help you might have.
Avatar n tn I couldn't take tamoxifen am know now am on arimidex. although at times i feel stiff it is better than tamoxifne and for get about femarar i felt 200 years old. i am estrogen positive which is why I am on arimidex It sometimes makes me achey and sometimes my stomach bothers me but i go off for a couble of days and then back on it.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response. Most of the problems I have had are listed as side effects on the pharmacists notes that I have received. You are right. It is not possible to absolutely link any of my problems to the drug, but I am sure enough that I am just about ready to discontinue it to see if things improve.
Avatar n tn When in menopause or post-menopause, then Arimidex is preferred. Arimidex is an estrogen inhibitor. I feel comfortable with the idea of switching from Tamoxifen into Arimidex to get the benefit of both. Of course, each case is different and treatment these days is individualized, however, it is important to learn as much as we can to participate in the process. As a preventive measure, I am considering removing my ovaries in two years, a simple laperoscopic procedure.
Avatar m tn Is that what your doctor has suggested? That you have your ovaries removed? You state that you are estrogen/progesteron positive, etc, but we know absolutely nothing else about your history, treatment, or even you type of cancer, or your age. I was also pro/estrogen positive. Do you think I should have my ovaries removed? They weren't, and maybe that was because I was 48 when diagnosed, but the thought did come up, and then discarded by my oncologist.
Avatar f tn I have to say, tamoxifen is my favorite drug. It seems much kinder than arimidex and I have seen more responses to it - but this is in ovarian cancer. For uterine cancer, most of the literature is on the use of progesterones for which there is a robust 20% complete response in recurrent disease. There is not much information on using hormone manipulation in the adjuvant setting. There is a small risk of blood clots as well.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, After 3 months of Femara I suddenly developed carpel tunnel syndrome. My entire right arm became numb in the middle of the night; I thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. I called Novartis & they sent me the requested 9 pages of info about musculoskeletal side effects, the most common being carpel tunnel & trigger finger. I saw a hand specialist who provided hand braces and said I would eventually need the surgery.
Avatar f tn When I say that I tried Arimidex, Tamoxifin, and Femera..... Arimidex made my joints so stiff and sore that I couldn't even walk without extreme pain. So I was put on Tamoxifin and within 3 months my WBC dropped to 1.3 which is one of the rare side effects. At that time I was changed to Femera, shortly after that I had vaginal bleeding so they did a D/C and 2 weeks later I started bleeding again.
Avatar n tn I tried all of the estrogen anagonists, and when my oncologist switched me from Tamoxifen to the first Aromatase Inhibitor, Arimidex, I lasted about three days and knew with absolute certainty that I would never take it again. Then I tried Femara and on that one I lasted for a few weeks before I quit, and then Aromasin and that was about one day.
Avatar f tn To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of the selective aromatase inhibitor anastrozole (Arimidex), we conducted a phase II trial in 53 women with asymptomatic recurrent/persistent müllerian cancer. METHODS: Patients with ovarian, peritoneal, or fallopian tube carcinoma were eligible for enrollment. Eligible patients had an ECOG PS 90 days, 15% for >180 days, 7% for >270 days, and 4% for >360 days. One patient remained on anastrozole at 15 months.

Avatar n tn I learned that some weman experienced elevated blood pressure and blood clots while on Arimidex. And Arimidex is known to cause high blood pressure and blood clots. How do know for sure that Arimidex is the cause of my high blood pressure?
Avatar n tn Please inform me of side effects of Arimidex. Also confirm whether clinical tests proved that arimidex really prevent cancer from returning. Recently I had a lumpectomy. The cancer was confined to the lump in my breast and did not spread to the limph nodes. I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density? Thank you very much. Susan.
Avatar n tn Been on Arimidex 26 months. Having numbness in hands and feet. Oncologist doesn't think it's related to Arimidex. Anyone have this problem while on this drug?
Avatar f tn I just completed 5 years on arimidex and have been asked to be part of a study and go on it for another 5 years. Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
Avatar m tn Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
Avatar n tn I started taking Arimidex about five months ago. Since then I have had many of the typical side effects such as hand/joint pain, neuropathy in my hands, hot flashes, wakefulness at night etc. However, my sight in one eye has also begun to noticeably deteriorate. I know, because I had my eyes checked and a new eye prescription just before I started taking Arimidex. I saw my eye doctor again last week and my vision has deteriorated from 20/40 to 20/70 (with correction) in just a few months.
Avatar n tn Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years! Avatar n tn Is painfful intercourse a common side effect of Arimidex? I even have pain from just touching the vaginal area, plus burning from contact to various soaps except Ivory. Will this go away when I get off of Arimidex in 3 more years? My obgyn wants to give me estrogen cream but my oncologist is against it. What can I do to get relief? HELP!
Avatar n tn t be reached even for a biopsy to be taken the Arimidex cleared it by the next scan (6 months). I should point out that Arimidex was the only medication I was taking, no other treatment. The only reason my cancer has now returned is because a relief GP gave me the results of a bone scan and found that I had osteoporosis so she took me off it and by the time I saw my oncologist (another 6 months) the cancer had returned and metasized in my intestines and spine and ribs. Great fun!
Avatar n tn I am 42 and have been on Arimidex since Feb. 20, 2009. I have had a hysterectomy in May to remove my ovaries. I have gained 15 pounds. I am on a 1600 calorie/day diet and walk six miles a day, four days a week. I would like to know if there is any thing else I can do to battle this weight gain. I will be on Arimidex for another four years.
