746377 tn?1263180080 Thanks for you quick response. I have been on Arimidex for 4 months Femara first two months but the muscle pain was to severe. Not to many effects in the first two months-of Arimidex- just a headache and some joint pain are my side effects. My surgeon ordered my Onco-I was a 17 with 8 percent rate of distant mets in 10 years low chance of recurrence for me. I will probably feel better when time passes as you say.. My doctors tell me I have a good prognosis. .
Avatar n tn s full biopsy report, the usual treatment for DCIS, would be lumpectomy, which is the complete removal of the area of concern and making sure to obtain clear margins, plus radiation.Radiotherapy is added to the lumpectomy because it decreases local recurrence rates by 50% compared to lumpectomy alone. Also some medication could be added to the treatment if the Surgeon recommends it.
Avatar n tn I was dx with dcis and lobular carcinoma, had a lumpectomy, lymph sentinel node dissection (all clean) followed by 33 radiation treatments .I am now 6 weeks post radiation treatment..I have been suffering with constant severe headaches for the past 5 weeks. My headaches were checked with a brain MRI contrast scan and the scan was normal. .Bloods fine and glaucoma eye test as well. I understand the ongoing fatigue, however the headache continues with no abatement.
Avatar f tn Many thanks for your response and advice. I have been on both drugs together - Arimidex for 4 yrs, Fosamax for 3 yrs. I stopped the Arimidex 4 wks ago but have continued with weekly Fosamax. The bone pain in my hip and foot has diminished considerably, although I still have shooting pains in both thumbs and 1st 2 fingers. I am a little confused as to your advice......when you say "a possible brilliant solution is to take these drugs together WITH bone protective agents...
Avatar f tn Has anyone been able to avoid chemo and been treated just with radiation for triple negative DCIS if it is under 5mm? I am having a lumpectomy in two days, but the surgeon said it is possible that the doctor got all the cancer in the stereo tactic biopsy based on the mammogram taken immediately after. That specimen was 3mm with carcinoma in situ as well.
Avatar f tn According to the latest National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, the recommended treatment for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is either mastectomy alone or lumpectomy plus radiation. Radiotherapy is added to the lumpectomy because it decreases local recurrence rates by 50% compared to lumpectomy alone. Wide excision is NOT equivalent to lumpectomy (lumpectomy is a more extensive type of surgery), and is not the recommended procedure for treating DCIS.
Avatar n tn Inj Cyclophosphamide 850 mg I.V. on day 1 Inj Epirubicin 150 mg in 1 NS over 1 hour on day 1 Inj 5-Flurouracil 850 mg I.V. on day 1 After the 3 CEF cycles, the oncologist is recommending 3 cycles of Paclitaxel (290 mg) and Carboplatin (450 mg)". Each cycle of 3 weeks interval. My question is 1. Is the oncologists recommendation agreeable - wrt efficacy ? wrt toxicity ? 2. Would u recommend weekly paclitaxel+carboplatin instead (instead of 3 week cycles) ?
Avatar m tn After seeing an endocrinologist who ran all types of blood work which came back normal with the exception of his estrogen level a bit higher then normal and had an X-ray of his hand which showed bones of a 13 half to 14 half yr old (I was told was good ) want to give my son arimidex. My question is......is this safe for teen boys. I read its not FDA approved for children.
341137 tn?1287305043 Hi, 3 years ago I had both a lumpectomy and mastectomy and 13 lymph nodes removed for what turned out to be 1mm of microinvasive dcis, it had been found whilst it was a stage 0 but the hospital lost my notes (thats a different story). I was put on Tamoxifen and it seems it didnt work, I was never given a FSH test until recently after having changed hospitals, the results were at almost 1500 as opposed to 300, It was also discovererd that I had myoma of the uterus and hormonal cysts.
Avatar f tn Anyone taking Arimidex or has taken it in the past. I am looking for feedback if it helped lower the ca 125??? My CA 125 is rising from 93 to 156 and now in the 230's... however nothing has changed on my pet scan and no measurable disease... I am seeing my onc on Monday...and he had recommended to try if i want Arimidex. I have other options like trying different chemo's... but then we are just treating the number... I wanted to give this a try.... what do you think...
Avatar f tn 1.3cm. The surgeon suggested I should do a mastectomy because the size of DCIS is large relative to my small and densed breast. Is it too aggressive to have a mastectomy for stage 0 breast cancer?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a lumpectomy for DCIS. Pathology reports state Extensive (multifocal) DCIS with focal minimal microinvasion, cribiform and micropapillary patterns, central necrosis, high N/C ratio, hyperchromasia, mitotic activity, tumor reaches margins at places. Tumor measures 3.5 cms in diameter. My onco advised radiation therapy + hormones or MRM. Please advise on what is the appropriate treatment for this.
Avatar f tn Dx Jan 2003 idc,+ DCIS, 2 cm tumour, stage/grade 2. 3/18 nodes+. WLE ,total axillary removal. 6 FEC chemo, 25 rads.Mondor's disease dx 2005. Arimidex 4 yrs, recently stopped due to bone pain, hips, hands, feet. Waiting to see Onc. for alternative AI adjuvant meds. Bisphosphs wkly, bone density loss ,as osteopenic.
Avatar n tn I have only had Arimidex. I only took it for about 2 months during my remission. I didn't really understand that it could have actually prevented my recurrence. It did cause a similiar bone pain to the carbo/taxol I had done. For that reason I quit taking it. There are doctors also using one now called Femara. Maybe one of those would work for you.
Avatar f tn ER results 80%, PR 10%, Her2hercep test 1+/Negative, P63 Positive They wanted me to get off tomaxacin and go on Arimidex but in order to go on that I had to take something for my bones because I have Osteopenia and Osteoprosis in my right arm. I tried Octonel for four weeks and I could not walk on my feet on the 5th week. Went to a foot Dr.
Avatar n tn I have bilateral intermediate grade DCIS (1.5 cm on left, .5 cm on right). After a number of surgeries I have +1cm margin on right, but around 2mm margin on the left. On the right I have ADH transected at the specimen. On both right and left I have plenty of other proliferative changes including atypical lobular hyperplasia, more ADH, cysts, adenosis, fibroadenoma, etc. I am preparing for bilateral radiation but concerned over the margin on left and remaining ADH on right.
Avatar f tn While I understand that you cannot anser this for me, I want to know if in some medical circles HT is omitted for my situation. I am asking becasue I want to know if it is worth it for me to seek a second opinioin.
Avatar n tn My 88 year old mother is scheduled for a lumpectomy to remove 2 masses that encompass a large part of her right breast (DCIS, solid type, high nuclear grade, w/necrosis, and calcifications) at 11 o'clock (2.8 cm) and 1 o'clock (1.6 cm). Last year, mammography and sonography revealed microcalcifications (5 cm x 4 cm area) that for a number of years had been diagnosed as benign.
Avatar n tn This would typically include a revision surgery to obtain clear margins, whole breast radiation therapy, and tamoxifen in case the DCIS is positive for ER or PR (Estrogen Receptors, Progesterone Receptors). There is good clinical data to prove that this combination treatment will confer benefits beyond mere surgery, so please do consider RT and hormones (if you are receptor positive).
Avatar f tn This decision would be entirely up to you. I would certainly follow thru with the what you mentioned but in the end it's still YOUR decision. I personally did not have any treatment following my surgery (mastectomy & removal of 12 lymph nodes) but some was recommended or I should say suggested. My surgeon didn't refer me to an Oncologist BUT my Primary Care Physician insisted on it. I must admit I only went because I have such respect for him and not necessarily for myself.
Avatar n tn I learned that some weman experienced elevated blood pressure and blood clots while on Arimidex. And Arimidex is known to cause high blood pressure and blood clots. How do know for sure that Arimidex is the cause of my high blood pressure?
Avatar f tn Hi, I found this information for you.I am also taking Arimidex and of course I am very interested in knowing more about this medication. My breast surgeon told me also that by taking Arimidex reduces the development of new breast cancers by 50 per cent. ----------------------------------------- Arimidex most effective in breast cancer study.
