Avatar n tn Hello, I read of your concern regarding the prescribing of Arimidex for your mothers metastatic breast cancer. I can tell you that the test results were so good for Arimidex that they stopped the tests early and started prescribing it. I was prescribed it for breast cancer that had spread by following the aorta to my stomache and intestines etc. The important thing is that I survived for over 7 years on Arimidex with very little side effects.
Avatar n tn In a clinical study in early breast cancer, some patients taking ARIMIDEX had an increase in cholesterol. Skin reactions, allergic reactions, and changes in blood tests of liver function have also been reported.
Avatar n tn Hi Jim, I am sorry about your wife. I just finished with chemo and radiation therapies and want to share my experience. I am scheduled for follow-up mammograms every six months, and MRI on a yearly basis. After the lumpectomy and right before the chemo, I requested a PET CT scan, for peace of mind. It was not offered to me, I requested it. There was no sign of malignancy in any other part of the body.
1030058 tn?1252253572 I am approaching 5 years clear of Breast cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 1 ER+ right breast cancer in 2004. No node involvement at all. However it was also Her2neu positive. I had a trt mastectomy w/ 16 lymph nodes excised, all negative. I then had 4 cycles of Adriamycin and Cytoxin.
Avatar f tn m not sure if it was just a mistake or if you intentionally made this a poll between Arimidex and its side effects, or breast cancer. If so, only your vote counts. You are the only one who can decide what is the best decision for you. I didn't see any question in your post, but if you do have one, we'd be glad to try to help.
Avatar f tn , locoregional or distant recurrence or contralateral breast cancer), postmenopausal women with hormone receptor–positive breast cancer should consider an AI, either as primary adjuvant therapy for 5 years or sequentially after 2 to 3 years of tamoxifen to yield a total of 5 years of adjuvant endocrine therapy. Women who discontinue initial AI therapy before 5 years should consider using tamoxifen to bring the total duration of adjuvant therapy to 5 years.
Avatar f tn Chemo goes through your entire system and kills cells that are currently present and possibly hiding elsewhere (your positive node implies cancer cells have moved outside your breast) and Arimidex simply helps prevent recurrence. Ultimately, the treatment choice is yours. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer and underwent a bilateral mastectomy eventhough my tumors were considered to be small--level1. My mother had breast cancer twice, first time did a lumpectomy and tons of radiation and was pronounced cancer free after five years. The next year the cancer was back and she had a mastectomy. My question is since my tumors were small even if they were estrogen fed shouldn't the mastectomy have been enough.
Avatar f tn Early results from this study indicate that Zometa in combination with endocrine therapy (goserelin plus tamoxifen or goserelin plus arimidex) lowers the 5-year risk for breast cancer recurrence by 36% compared to those women who were being given endocrine therapy alone. Zometa apparently not only prevented bone metastases, but metastases to other body parts as well. It also decreased recurrence risk in the unaffected breast.
Avatar m tn It’s good to know that you are feeling better already. There are so many issues surrounding breast cancer treatment in the elderly. The risks and benefits of treatment should always be discussed before treatment is started. Please continue doing self-breast examination and note for any changes in your breast. Stay positive.
Avatar f tn I had grade 3 dcis &idc, er and pr postive breast cancer last year. I have tried Arimidex, Tamoxifen, and Femera with no luck. Now the dr would like to do a total hysterectomy. I am 45 and stopped having periods 3 years ago. Is this beneficial or not?
Avatar n tn Hi there! I had breast cancer (stage 1) 2 1/2 yrs. ago - had a mastectomy, followed by chemo. I'm now on tamoxifen. I've been having moderate hip and shoulder pain for the past 6 mos. or so - can't cross my legs easily, especially bothers me when I'm sitting or less active. Any cause for concern here? I've been avoiding doing anything about it, as it is not as bothersome some times.
107366 tn?1305680375 s seem to be the choice for me at the moment (I actually have Ovarian cancer, not Breast Cancer. But my doc wants to treat as if I do have Breast Cacer because of the relation to estrogen). But, I have noticed more and more pain the longer I take it. My ankles, legs, knees, arms and wrists get so stiff and sore, and I feel like I'm 90 when I try to get up. I have oral pain meds...Lortab...
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed last year with stage IIIB breast cancer. I have already gone through the chemo treatments - bilateral masectomy, radiation - finishing up in a few months with Herceptin. I started to take Tamoxifen a couple of months ago - I've been experiencing bad headaches - hot flashes (these are to be expected).
Avatar f tn Dear Doreen789, It is generally recommended that pregnancy be delayed 2 to 3 years after adjuvant treatment for breast cancer is completed. The delay is not because of the influence of the pregnancy on the cancer, but rather to delay childbearing until after the time of greatest risk of recurrence of the tumor.
Avatar m tn Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
Avatar f tn this is commonly done for women who have experienced breast cancer and there is good data to show that this reduces recurrences in breast cancer. the data for ovarian cancer is not so clear. There definitely are side effects to femara! Tamoxifen usually gives the least side effects but Arimidex may be OK as well. For women with BRCA1 mutation, there is good information to suggest that a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy is the best risk reducing intervention.

Avatar n tn In 2004 they took them all out and cancer was in 10 of 20 of them. What would you suggest to replace the arimidex and if the nodes are positive what is the next thing to do. Please give me some hope because I am getting tired of fighting. You have given me so much help in the past. I also want to say both my daughters have breast cancer and we do not have the gene.
