Hi,
I too was taking Tamoxifen and then was switched to Arimidex and then Aromasen. I am now back on Tamoxifen. I had so many problems with the other meds. I am very sensative to meds and the later 2 did not work. I have a few problems with Tamoxifen but it is better than the others for me.
My Dr. said that it is not a problem being in "forced" menopause and the fact that I had a hysterectomy as well.
One thing we always have to remember is that we are our own advocate...
I had Stage 4 ovarian cancer last year with great results, but I now have a "thickening" that the oncologist is watching she decided to be pro-active and placed me on the generic form of tamoxifin which it turns out I am very sensitive to, as I explained to the doctor, If I continue on this medication I will also need a flea collar. The itching is terrible, I went off of it twice now and tried to restart it again with the same results.
When I say that I tried Arimidex, Tamoxifin, and Femera..... Arimidex made my joints so stiff and sore that I couldn't even walk without extreme pain. So I was put on Tamoxifin and within 3 months my WBC dropped to 1.3 which is one of the rare side effects. At that time I was changed to Femera, shortly after that I had vaginal bleeding so they did a D/C and 2 weeks later I started bleeding again.
this is commonly done for women who have experienced breast cancer and there is good data to show that this reduces recurrences in breast cancer. the data for ovarian cancer is not so clear. There definitely are side effects to femara! Tamoxifen usually gives the least side effects but Arimidex may be OK as well.
For women with BRCA1 mutation, there is good information to suggest that a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy is the best risk reducing intervention.
I had an ooferectomy almost 2 weeks ago as a precaution, as my mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 59. I felt great until I started Arimidex on Tuesday, and now I feel horrible. I feel constantly tired and weak and my mind is not alert, I'm having trouble focusing on simple puzzles. I've also been emotionally fragile since Tuesday, crying or on the verge of crying. Will this pass?
Goodman -- I am BRCA1 positive with single mutation -- my sister died of ovarian at 46 and my mother of breast at 74.
Lymph nodes clear. After surgery had mammosite. Should I do hormone therapy? I also had ovarian cancer 2 yrs. ago. Stage 1A also. Doing well here.
Took chemo for OV. and left me with aching legs and joints. The hormone therapy has so many side affects. The drugs suggested for me are Arimidex or Raloxifene. Is there anyone that does not take hormone therapy and is still doing well with no recurrance?
I have been on Arimidex for 3 years and I have the exact same problem with the weight gain in my stomach. I don't know if it will ever come off but all I can do is hope. I am cancer free since my surgery and the pills and hope to remain so. My oncologist seems to think every thing is going very well at this time. After all this is the most important part of it, remaining cancer free.

Been on Arimidex 26 months. Having numbness in hands and feet. Oncologist doesn't think it's related to Arimidex. Anyone have this problem while on this drug?
I just completed 5 years on arimidex and have been asked to be part of a study and go on it for another 5 years. Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
The correlation between breast cancer and estrogen related ovarian cancer is being studied, and the theory is if they work for breast cancer patients, they may work for estrogen related ovarian cancer, as well. For me, Aromasin has kept my cancer stable for the last 9 months.
I encourage you and your mom to speak to her doctor regarding trying a different Aromatase Inhibiter IF Femara doesn't seem to work for her, or causes side effects.
I was 38 and premenstrual. Following surgery, chemo and radiotherapy had 5 years of zoladex and arimidex which finished in Aug 2013.
My periods returned 10 months later but have been very irregular, cycles from 5 weeks to a 2 month and a 3 month cycle. I have had enormous problems with intermittent fatigue, muscle aches, painful breasts, mood wings (PMDD), hypertension. I was fatigued during the hormonal tx but the present fatigue does not improve with rest.
The only reason my cancer has now returned is because a relief GP gave me the results of a bone scan and found that I had osteoporosis so she took me off it and by the time I saw my oncologist (another 6 months) the cancer had returned and metasized in my intestines and spine and ribs. Great fun!
The talk is that they are considering testing Arimidex as a preventative treatment for people who have a family history of breast cancer.
Also confirm whether clinical tests proved that arimidex really prevent cancer from returning. Recently I had a lumpectomy. The cancer was confined to the lump in my breast and did not spread to the limph nodes. I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density?

I have an ovarian cancer (carcinoma, cerous), operated in November 2004, had 4 courses before and 3 after an operation of topotekan/oxaliplatin, in 7 month recurrence, treated by 11 courses carboplatin/taxol, 1 course of CAP, in 8 month recurrence - now undergo 7th course of doxil. CT shows reduction of the main tumor by about half, metastasis in liver (reduced a little), lungs, limfoid node in groin enlarged. What is the best way forward for me? Would be grateful for advise.
