Arimidex and macular degeneration

Common Questions and Answers about Arimidex and macular degeneration

arimidex

Avatar n tn It may slow down or prevent dry macular degeneration and may help prevent dry macular degeneration from developing into wet macular degen. However once wet macular degeneration develops it is not helpful. The information about AREDS (age related eye disease study) is also incorrect. The original AREDS formula had NO lutein in it at all. The AREDS 2 formula has . lutein and zeaxanthine in it. First reports on AREDS 2 study were released in May 2013.
Avatar n tn Macular hole and macular degeneration are NOT the same thing. There are two types of macular degeneration (for adults): Age-Related macular degeneration and myopic macular degeneration. Use the search feature here to learn more about each of these conditions or Google them.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to bring back sight from the right eye, which has macular degeneration, and is it possible to bring back normal sight from my left eye with cornea injury?
Avatar f tn MY MOTHER HAS THE DRY FORM OF MACULAR DEGENERATION HER SIGHT IS BECOMING MUCH WORSE. THIS IN TURN IS MAKING HER FEEL VERY LOW AS SHE HAS THE CONDITION IN BOTH EYES. PLEASE COULD YOU TELL ME IF THERE IS ANYTHING AT ALL EITHER AVAILABLE AT THE MOMENT OR IN THE NEAR FUTURE FOR ANYONE SUFFERING WITH THE DRY FORM OF MACULAR DEGENERATION?
Avatar m tn Macular degeneration is more common in light colored eyes (blue, gray, green) than in dark brown and more common in light colored skin than dark colored skin. Not with pupil size.
Avatar n tn In the 3 weeks since the appointment, I have noticed that I can, for the first time, see the distortions on the amsler grid, and that the distortions fluctuate from hour to hour and day to day. Is this typical of pucker? It sounds more like macular degeneration to me, and I am worried sick about it. The vision is the worst when coming in from a bright light like the sun, into a darker room like my office.
Avatar f tn Went 4 times to an ophthalmologist and retinal specialist and they could not see any macular degeneration and they said I have a healthy macula. I am guessing that a comprehensive eye exam would show a problem and especially done 4 times by a different ophthalmologist. Any ideas what this could be? I have no migraines or headaches. This is not causing me any vision loss as my central vision is excellent.
757137 tn?1347196453 I have the beginnings of dry macular degeneration in my left eye. I saw a retinologist and he said that I should have cataract surgery in the very near future. How much of a problem is that given the macular degeneration? Is there added risk? What is the result likely to be? Many thanks for your reply.
Avatar f tn Read the section on optic nerve drusen. That does not require surgery, does not bother most people (there are a few exceptions) Genrerally OND would not account for the reduced central vsion. Suggest you discuss with your surgeons "Doctor, why can't I see twenty/twenty? What is the cause? Is there a treatment?
Avatar n tn Aquila in Italy has found that when eaten, saffron may protect eyes from UV damage and slow the progress of diseases such as macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness. In macular degeneration, the cells in the retina at the back of the eye, which are responsible for clear vision, begin to die. But when patients with macular degeneration taking part in the study began eating a diet containing saffron, these cells began to recover.
Avatar f tn I know there is a supplement that does wonders, but can't remember the name.
Avatar n tn There is a wealth of information here on myopic macular degeneration. Use the search feature and archives to read. There is no way to predict the future. MDs don't get crystal balls when they get their degrees. I have been in ophthalmology over 30 years. None of my patients with pathologic high myopia are completely blind. Many have reduced vision but function well and see good enough to maintain a driver's license and use a computer and read.
Avatar m tn Lutein is a carotenoid which is helpful is macular degeneration, since it is concentrated in the macula and acts to prevent light damage. It is not inserted into the eye, in any procedure. Best sources of lutein are spinach, broccoli, and kale. If you don't eat enough of these foods, you may obtain a lutein supplement at vitamin stores.
Avatar m tn I have what my eye doctor called pigment mottling and may be an indication of future macular degeneration. Is there any evidence of Seroquel (Quetiapine) causing macular degeneration or any retinal problems? I do know there is evidence of it causing cataracts.
53833 tn?1234996629 today and after tests was told that his eyeballs are swollen and he has broken blood vessels. In addition to that he has macular degeneration - prior to today's dr. visit he had been told it was in check and was restricted to just the one eye. It too, now, has advanced and has spread to both eyes. Dr. told him it was a good thing he came in today or he could have passed the point where things may be able to be corrected with surgery on Friday.
Avatar f tn I had my eyes checked to make sure there was no pressure behind my eyes and that is when I was diagnosed with Drusen and Macular Degeneration. Is there any correlation to the headaches or vision problems I am having? If there is any answers you can give me I would be very grateful.
Avatar f tn So, either way, the end result will be the same? Drusen is only a symptom of Macular degeneration?
757137 tn?1347196453 The first recommended lutein and zeaxanthin for general eye health, and the second recommended saffron for macular degeneration.
Avatar n tn I was worried about this, too, when my optometrist told me I had a couple of drusen in one eye. She said it can lead to macular degeneration "many years down the line" and encouraged me to eat a lot of spinach (which has lutein, good for the eyes). However, when I went to an ophthalmologist about another problem, he never mentioned the drusen until I asked.
Avatar m tn Since you are computer literate use the search feature and archives and search "macular hole" and macular hole surgery. You can print off the discussions and review them with your friend. I cannot answer your questions specifically because there are so many variables. Suffice it to say macular holes are not cured by surgery, the surgery is done to try and keep them from getting bigger. They do not make the macula normal.
Avatar n tn m only 19 right now. he also said it could lead to macular degeneration, which is unusual at my age. I would like to know if the problem is not as bad as the doctor told me, and how is it possible for a person my age to get such a eye problem.
Avatar f tn What exaxtly happens the eye? Retina? Macular? Etc.
Avatar n tn An optomatrist diagnosed me with full Dry Macular Degeneration, while an opthomologist diagnosed me with drusen and said not to worry because I have it around the whole macular as well as in the macular cell. Is this true? And why does it mean that my chances of going blind are reduced because of this?
233488 tn?1310693103 A new study of 1313 women age 55 to 74 years of age found that GOOD DIET and EXERCISE reduced the risk of age related macular degeneration by 46%. Smoking doubles the risk of macular degeneration and makes it more likely to turn from the dry form to the more aggressive wet form. Here's a million dollars worth of advice for FREE: don't smoke, eat a good diet rich in fruits, vegetable, fish, fiber, berries and nuts, low is saturated fat, low in high calorie processed carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn There is "age related macular degeneration" (both dry and wet) and there is "myopic macular degeneration" (both dry and wet). The first is caused by bio-chemical reasons, the second my mechanical (the retina stretching and getting thin). I also have degenerative myopia which is causing macular degeneration. In my left eye, it has caused a CNV (choroidal neovascularization) which means that a new blood vessel grew and hemorrhaged. I also had two Avastin shots.
Avatar f tn Can I repair macular degeneration with suppliments and staying out of the bright sunlight. I am taking lutein, astaxanthin, zinc, Vitamin A, bilberry and all the regular vitamins.
