I have read my pathology report and find no percentage that separates DCIS and Invasive ductal carcinoma. I had a lumpectomy, radiation and now Arimidex. How likely is this tumour with no vessel or nodal invasion present, onco type dx score in low recurrence, to metastasis?

s full biopsy report,the usual treatment for DCIS, would be lumpectomy,which is the complete removal of the area of concern and making sure to obtain clear margins, plus radiation.Radiotherapy is added to the lumpectomy because it decreases local recurrence rates by 50% compared to lumpectomy alone.Also some medication could be added to the treatment if the Surgeon recommends it.

Hi. I've had my lumpectomy and some of my lymph nodes removed (as precaution) and am now looking at the next step. My surgeon had thought I'd do radiation, but I can't. As I do research, I'm wondering, what do I look under, since I have more than one type of carcinoma? My path report says: a) invasive adenocarcinoma tubualr growth pattern, grade 1, max. tumor diam. 1.1cm, margins clear, est + in >90% of invasive cells; prog. + in 10% of invasive cells. HER-2 neg.

I found that every time I pity myself and get stressed out, things get worse.My sister had radiation and is taking Arimidex (2 years now) and the side effects have considerably lessened.I hope it will happen to us also.I tend to be a bit irritable lately,but I try my best not to frustrate people around me especially my husband....LOL. who is really very patient with me and supported me throughout all my hard times.

When I say that I tried Arimidex, Tamoxifin, and Femera..... Arimidex made my joints so stiff and sore that I couldn't even walk without extreme pain. So I was put on Tamoxifin and within 3 months my WBC dropped to 1.3 which is one of the rare side effects. At that time I was changed to Femera, shortly after that I had vaginal bleeding so they did a D/C and 2 weeks later I started bleeding again.

I was dx with IDC and intermediate DCIS in Jan 2003 - 2 cm non palpable tumour and 3/18 positive lymph nodes. Had WLE and total axillary removal. 6 x FEC and 25 rads. 2 months on tamoxifen, then Onc switched me to Arimidex in Feb 2004. I have had increasing debilitating severe pain in left hip, left foot and both hands. DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids).

Once this is obtained and radiotherapy finished,Tamoxifen is recommended if your DCIS is estrogen receptive and you are premenopausal. Arimidex or Femara is prescribed if you are postmenopausal. I really don't know what "Q score 7"means,but I am sure that your doctor/Oncologist or radiologist can explain it to you. Hoping that all goes well for you and I am sending you my best wishes! P.S.

Has anyone been able to avoid chemo and been treated just with radiation for triple negative DCIS if it is under 5mm? I am having a lumpectomy in two days, but the surgeon said it is possible that the doctor got all the cancer in the stereo tactic biopsy based on the mammogram taken immediately after. That specimen was 3mm with carcinoma in situ as well.

I learned that some weman experienced elevated blood pressure and blood clots while on Arimidex. And Arimidex is known to cause high blood pressure and blood clots. How do know for sure that Arimidex is the cause of my high blood pressure?

My question is this - what is the difference between this and regular DCIS and is prophylactic mastectomy a viable option to avoid any further recurrence? I also had another mammogram following my surgery and there are still a section of microcalcifications that the surgeon missed. If I don't opt for PM (that's what my Oncologist recommends) - then I have to go in for another biopsy, and constant screening. I'm only 41 - please give me your thoughts.

ve recently started Arimidex 5 days ago and again noticed dry eyes and my vision does not seem as clear once again. I have to believe that it's the Arimidex and Tamoxifin.

I was 58 yrs when dx Jan 2003 with a stage 2, grade 2, IDC tumour with associated DCIS, comedo and cribriform, and 4/18 lymph nodes positive. I was ER+, HER2-, PR not done. I had 6 cycles of FEC, then 25 rads, Been on Arimidex since and doing well, even though I am on weekly chemo (methotrexate for Crohn's). My dx is a little different to your Mum's and this could be the reason why her Oncologist is advising a different chemo regime after the FEC.

Hi, 3 years ago I had both a lumpectomy and mastectomy and 13 lymph nodes removed for what turned out to be 1mm of microinvasive dcis, it had been found whilst it was a stage 0 but the hospital lost my notes (thats a different story). I was put on Tamoxifen and it seems it didnt work, I was never given a FSH test until recently after having changed hospitals, the results were at almost 1500 as opposed to 300, It was also discovererd that I had myoma of the uterus and hormonal cysts.

I have been on Arimidex for 3 years and I have the exact same problem with the weight gain in my stomach. I don't know if it will ever come off but all I can do is hope. I am cancer free since my surgery and the pills and hope to remain so. My oncologist seems to think every thing is going very well at this time. After all this is the most important part of it, remaining cancer free. I wish all well and hope you continue to remain cancer free.

Had stereotactic biopsy which found DCIS and lobular neoplasia in left breast. Had lumpectomy and surgical pathological report indicated only the lobular neoplasia and atypical ductal hyperplasia, but no residual DCIS. All margins were clear from 1cm up to 4 cm and 4 sentinel lymph nodes were also clear. Surgeon took out a large specimen (6cm x 4cm) to make sure he got it all and that margins were clear.

I learned that Aromasin and Arimidex are quite different. Aromasin permanently binds to the Aromatase and Arimidex is temporary. I'll have to do more research about what that means chemically.

Has anyone experienced a full face full of acne for a prolonged period after starting Arimidex? It is my friend who had breast cancer and she is blind and wants to write for her. She also has Lupus but she has seen a dermatologist and rheumatologist and they dismiss it as acne. She knows she is out of remission with discoid lupus. But they assured her the 'acne" is not lupus breakout.

I hate to tell you but I am on Arimidex and I have joint pain in my hips and knees and my fingers are stiff and swollen -- It started two weeks after I started the Arimidex --- It may be gentler than Femara but for me it hasn't been a walk in the part either -- Sorry your mom is feeling so poorly -- I hope they help her quickly -- maybe she should be taking Calcium with Vitamin D in the meantime

I am a 65 year old retired RN who had DCIS in 1999 which was treated with lumpectomy and radiation. The following year I was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma on my nose with involvement in one right neck node. Had a right modified neck dissection after this and have been cancer free since then. In December of 2008 had a suspicious left mammogram and ultrasound {previous BC was on the right}.

My 88 year old mother is scheduled for a lumpectomy to remove 2 masses that encompass a large part of her right breast (DCIS, solid type, high nuclear grade, w/necrosis, and calcifications) at 11 o'clock (2.8 cm) and 1 o'clock (1.6 cm). Last year, mammography and sonography revealed microcalcifications (5 cm x 4 cm area) that for a number of years had been diagnosed as benign.

I want to know if this is standard of care for my situation. I had a 1cm lump including DCIS and ILC. My margins were 6mm, 1cm, 5cm, 6cm. The ILC was in a linear pattern and low nuclear grade. 4 of 4 nodes were negative for cancer. I am ER+ 100% and PR+ 90%. I am HER2 negative. I was told my cancer was caught very early and I should be OK. My question is that I have talked to people who have had mastectomies and no hormone therapy.

Today the results of the Oncotype DX was 8 and the doctor gave me Arimidex (anastrozole) 1mg tablets and I am scheduled to see the radiologist next week. I think with all the side effects of the medicine, it sure is scary, but I will try it. If it gets me sick or if I am unable to take it, then I won't take anything. I also want to see what the radiologist suggests as far as how many tx's I will need to take. I guess time will tell.

For the past five weeks, I have been bleeding and appear to be having a period. Does anyone relate to this? I am overweight, stressed, and too busy to exercise in case there is a connection. Any experience out there with this?

Hi, I found this information for you.I am also taking Arimidex and of course I am very interested in knowing more about this medication.My breast surgeon told me also that by taking Arimidex reduces the development of new breast cancers by 50 per cent. ----------------------------------------- Arimidex most effective in breast cancer study.

I agree with the above and encourage you have have radiation.
