Common Questions and Answers about Aricept for lewy body dementia

aricept

Avatar f tn My mom was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia in October 2015. Her disease has progressed a lot in the last 4 months. I found out recently that one of her sisters also had dementia. My question, am I at a higher risk to get this disease? If so is there a time when symptoms would begin to show in me?
Avatar n tn My mom suffers from this lewy body dementia, and i wish there was something more effective out there other than aricept or exelon... If anyone knows anything about REMBA, please drop me a line.... I thank you and good luck to you ,or your loved one!
Avatar f tn Hi, I would like to understand which of the following disorders present with a sudomotor dysfunction: Parkinsons' Disease, Pure Autonomic Failure, Lewy Body Dementia and Multiple System Atrophy. Also, what is the approach used to differentiate between these four disorders from the QSART results?
Avatar n tn My dad passed away at 60 from what I thought was Alzheimers. I always had my doubts since my dad lost his motor skills (ability to walk/talk/write), had paranoia, and also would not sleep at all. Though his short and long term memory were in tact. I would see him about every 3 months and he always recognized me, my kids, my husband, etc. He also never forgot my mom - his caregiver. He would tell stories both current and from the past. He did not repeat things.
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking 10mg of Aricept for 2 years now and I have not noticed any significant difference in his memory. Actually, my observation is his memory is becoming worse. I'm struggling with whether I should discontinue the medication since I don't see improvement and because it is quite costly. I also know Aricept is designed to slow down the dementia so if I discontinue it I'm wondering if he will become worse much faster.
Avatar f tn I read that lewy body dementia hallucinations are very vivid and not of what I described, that's what I was worried over however I've never heard of anyone under 30 with it and even then under 50 is extremely rare. Should I stop worrying?
Avatar m tn These can be effectively treated by addition of dopamine agonist dose against prescription at bedtime. Patients of dementia with Lewy bodies disease have a high incidence of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behaviors. Nocturnal confusion can also be seen. This is also treated low doses of clonazepam against prescription. I suggest you to consult neuro physician. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn My 82 yr old Mother has alzheimers( I believe Lewy Body). She has started having agitation and agrressive verbal outburts, up at night, paranoia. Dr wants to put her on Abilify, but I am very concerned about the side effects of this drug.
246236 tn?1275478902 My neurologist wants me to start on Aricept for my cognitive issues. Apparently it just became available in generic about 3 weeks ago, but she gave me a month's sample of the actual Aricept. I'm excited to take it (I'm going to start it tomorrow so I have a few weekend days to know how it affects me), especially if it helps! I've looked online and on previous forum posts but didn't find a lot regarding actual experiences from those taking it who have MS.
Avatar f tn My husband has dementia. He takes the Bupropion in the morning along with his Aricept and Exforge (for blood pressure). He gets drowsy right after taking his pills and I think it may be the Bupropion HSL SR causing this. His neurologist told him the anti-depressant would probably make him "a little more fuzzy in his thinking". My husband is usually at his best in the morning as far as clear thinking goes.
Avatar f tn How do I find a neurologist who is educated in Effexor withdrawal? I have a mild seizure disorder, my Mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and I am "addicted" to Effexor, which I have taken for 10 years and cannot seem to break free from. Put that all together and I feel as though my worsening memory issues spell our DEMENTIA in big, bold letters. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks...
Avatar f tn i gave my mom a good holiday....she keeps trucking at 92 w/that damn Lewy Body Dementia...2 day i talked to a family that just placed their dad in same place my mom is......2 young....age 69!made me feel good to offer them some wisdom and support!
Avatar m tn When I was having some serious cog fog, I asked my neurologist for a sample of Aricept. Had to argue with him, actually. It worked! I got back some of my cognitive function - not all, but enough that I felt confident about my decisions. I took it for four months, total. I still have one month left over on the scrip, so if I really need it, I'll have it.
Avatar n tn My Mom is 92 years old. Has been living on her own in Elderly housing for 20 years. Her dementia consisted of repeating and repeating, forgetting who visited, etc. but went throughout her normal activities w/some services very well and very happiy. Always knew us but was starting to forget other people but after prompting she would be ok. 3 weeks ago she developed a very severe resistant UTI and then got c-dift (not sure how to spell that). Anyway ended up dilusional, confused, etc.
Avatar f tn We have been having many issues with meds and my mom too. She suffers from depression and anxiety....but also diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia (last week they decided to tag it as Lewy Body)....there are a lot of meds that cause issues in the elderly. We have learned to stay away from SSRI re-uptake inhibitors, she also has to stay away from anti psycotic drugs which will make it worse.
5466288 tn?1410485185 My mother who died almost 3 yrs ago before she could be diagnosed, had been seeing a neuro who told my sister he thought she might have a form of dementia called Lewy Body Dementia. She had been hallucinating, lost her appetite, was falling frequently and injuring herself. She had to use a walker to get around because her movements were no longer smooth.
1731403 tn?1320899207 Thank u for posting good advice!i've been sober/clean now for 28 years.I loved a man in 05 who was clean from cocaine for 3 yrs.He relapsed and began to treat me w/the utmost cruelty and verbal abuse that i tried to weather and guide him to recovery. He wanted no part of it.This was during a time that my dad died,my mom went to the psych unit and later correctly dx'd w/Lewy Body Dementia, and a medical issue w/me plus 2 deaths of my cat and beloved greyhound.
Avatar f tn I would not rest till someone could figure out why you have atrophy in your brain and what you can do. Maybe Aricept is something that would be helpful for you. I wish you luck.
Avatar m tn The face-blindness and speaking/singing to oneself reminds me of my father, who is in the middle stages of Lewy body dementia and also has dealt with anxiety and depression for many years. However, some of these symptoms could be side effects of drugs. Do you currently take any medications or street drugs? You should probably see a psychologist and maybe even a neurologist if these symptoms continue.
5328977 tn?1372121692 I'm a substance abuse counselor with 29 years sober/clean and have worked in a small rural outpatient clinic for 28 years.I have two college degrees, two licenses and have gone to numerous seminars over the years.I don't consider myself an expert.Anyone who does has an inflated ego in this area!I'm nothing more than a guide, teacher, mentor, sounding board etc.I've made it this far because i've developed the mental discipline to do what i need to do in my recovery vs.
338416 tn?1420045702 D'oh-oh'oh! Evidently I'm not 100% better! I haven't been on Aricept for 70 days - it's only been 40+ days, maybe 50. Dunno what I was thinking. I've never before had to worry about whether I could overdose on a drug. I think I accidentally took two one time - I had a hard time sleeping, and felt a little like everything was in high-resolution. Little hard to explain, but easier if you've ever taken hallucinogens.
