Avatar f tn How many calories are you consuming? and are you exercising? Do you take any medication? Need more information on what you eat, drink, age, height, weight. So you consume no carbs and no sugar!
649848 tn?1534633700 From what I have read, this diet can be difficult to manage - it can involve test strips and urine or breath tests to determine if you are in ketosis, and one day of eating more than 50 g of carbohydrates can cause you to get out of ketosis, and this adds an additional complexity level compared to other diets (maximum carbohydrates to maintain ketosis can range from 100g to as low as 20 g a day - which is difficult).
Avatar n tn Dietary Ketosis has nothing to do with BG until your liver runs out of stored glucagon it can continue to raise BG (ie 8 - 10 hour high when fasting) how low are you going on the carbs? you can be in Ketosis with high BG. Ketosis means your body is using ketones for fuel instead of glucose. Diabetesforum(dot)com has many people doing diatery Ketosis.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet causes the body to go into Ketosis whereby the body uses its fat as a source of energy. Also when you are in ketosis your body feels less hungry. This all sounds good except that this can also lead to kidney issues (even failure), osteoporosis, and kidney stones. Stay balanced and control your calories and you'll lose weight and avoid the side effects. Good luck.
Avatar m tn And eating too many carbs even for a single day can kick you out of ketosis and thus you will not lose weight like you would think. It takes several days or more to get back into ketosis after even one day of too many carbs. So eating too many carbs once a week could keep you almost totally out of ketosis. Gimel is right. It is worth getting tested for low thyroid.
Avatar f tn As first it is not dangerous and its not unhealthy. There are situation you can benefit to be in ketosis state and there are situation you dont. You cant just say "its unhealthy" - who says that and how did he get this information ? As i told, there is not muc hresearch on ketosis, most of the research dates decades ago and they're rly extreme while treating epylepsy and other mental diseases. For example they ate just fat, maybe 10% protein, no vegetables, no multivitamin...
Avatar f tn I think the closest a doctor could ethically do at this time to what you are suggesting is one of the different kinds of gastric bypass surgery, and even those, someone has to qualify for by being healthy enough (other than their weight) to take the stress. The problem with knocking someone out and keeping them on an IV is that being kept knocked out has its own health challenges.
Avatar f tn If you need less insulin to maintain excellent blood sugars then you will slowly get to your optimum weight. If you are serious about this I can strongly recommend the book "diabetes solution" by Dr. Richard Bernstein, you can google this. His book explains how to safely use insulin and diet to manage blood sugars and weight. His approach is similar to Atkins, but is more finely tuned to suit people with diabetes (both types 1 and 2, insulin and non-insulin dependent).
Avatar f tn You can lose fat, without losing weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising. You need the strength training to build the muscles that will burn the fat. But maybe, since you're under weight you don't really have fat to burn, you just need to tone your muscles? If that's the case, exercise will be the key. You might try yoga for that - works great.
Avatar f tn There have been some other recent posts regarding the Atkins type diet, you might find them interesting reading. It's my understanding that this type of diet does not count calories or anything other than carbs. The general basis for losing weight is "calories in/calories out" - meaning that if you take in more calories than you expend, you will not lose weight.
Avatar n tn I didn't see this response, so this is quite late. The possible kidney damage and cardiovascular problems have been reported in research on high protein diets, not just from red meat. If it isn't long-term, when you return to your former diet you will return to your former metabolism, nothing will have changed permanently, so if you do that, you will go back to gaining weight. Only permanent dietary changes bring lasting change.
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
579258 tn?1250649343 How is your weight loss journey? Are you a turtle or a hare? .. or some other critter? http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn I'm curious if anyone is losing weight in 3rd trimester and how much?
Avatar n tn This may be ketosis or in your case post exercise ketosis. You smell like acetone in a ketosis state . This is as close as i can find to nail polish; acetone is an ingredient in nail polish remover. The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis.
579258 tn?1250649343 I think I am succeeding and failing. I am losing way in an unhealthy way NOT because I want to. Oh well, life sometimes gets a bit too hard, but at least time goes by fast, and there is always something you can do about it, right? Rana, I saw your before and after......wow, girl, wow!!!

Avatar m tn we make sure the foods he eats are right but his blood level goes down. we help some help to understand what is happening. thank you for time in reading my problem.
Avatar f tn I'm not familiar with the diet with which you refer, so I did a quick search... The first thing I find is that it restricts calories to about 600/day, which puts up a red flag immediately for me. Of course, you can probably lose weight on any diet that only allows 600 calories/day, but can you stick with it? And is it healthy? My little bit of research shows that ketogenic diets are a bit controversial as to how healthy they are.
Avatar f tn Well, I don't have that problem but if you are extremely desperate, you could eat a burger at a fast food joint. it's not healthy but it does get you 600+ calories in one take and might make it easier to meet your goal.

Avatar m tn Hi, ketone level of 1+ is not very high, though it is detectable. The fact that your blood sugar is totally normal at 83 means that the ketones you saw are from what is known as 'nutritional or metabolic ketosis'. This is not dangerous, in fact it is normal and a healthy response of the body to fasting, or to eating high fat low carb meals. When you fly be sure to drink plenty of water. Flying, with the dry air, is very dehydrating.
