973741 tn?1342342773 What is the current thinking of protein drinks for weight loss? Are there any good ones? Do you think that they can work to use for meal replacement, say breakfast, maybe lunch and then eat a normal dinner? Pros? Cons?
Avatar f tn But there are a lot of options for protein powders, even vegan protein powders, and some of them are really tasty, so they are good options.
Avatar f tn Muscle building and high intensity workouts are not advised while pregnant, which would be the only reason for taking it... also all that protein can pit stress on your kidneys which are already working overtime.
Avatar n tn Also Branched Chain Amino Acids are good for making protein and to stimulate muscle production. Glutamine, HMB, Taurine, are helpful. some good creatine products are Betancourt, Creatine "Micros, BodyTech 100% Pure Creatine Monohydrate 5 GM, Muscle Pharm - Creatine Rapidly Absorbed Complex - 300 Grams As for BCAA, Dymatize Nutrition, BCAA, Complex 5050, Branched Chain Amino Acids, MET-Rx - BCAA 2200 As I said check with your doctor first!!
Avatar f tn Whey protein itself is generally good for pregnant women, however ready made protein shakes can contain additives and preservatives that aren't so good for momma and/or baby.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of good protein powders on the market that are not meant for "muscle building", but protein is the building block for muscle and muscle burns fat. Exercise also helps build muscle, but if you do the right ones, you won't "bulk up". I often use, both, Greek yogurt and protein powder in my smoothies. The yogurt gives you and extra amount of protein, plus calcium, vitamin B12, etc.
Avatar f tn Personally wouldn't go with the Optimum Nutrition brand. It doesn't have the best quality whey protein exclusively, but mixes in three different types, so you can do better. And be careful with these supplements -- most have ingredients in them that aren't very good for you. A good health food store will have very good protein supplements that don't add sugar or preservatives and you can flavor them by just adding a banana or some strawberries.
Avatar n tn 1- GNC sells some high amino acid/ high carb weight gain powders. Are these products safe for people with decompensated liver? 2- I am 192 Ibs now, down from 200, @ 6' 2", and would like to return to my 200 weight. 1.5 grms x 200 weight goal and maintanance requires 300 grams of protein daily. Is that much protein safe for cirrhotics/decomp liver to even try reaching this goal? I have been trying to keep high carb/caloric with low sodium up to now.
Avatar f tn The herbalife shakes are perfectly safe for you. I am a distributor and owned my own nutrition club, I take products every day. There are a few products you should avoid while pregnant but the powders are safe.
19024797 tn?1471291132 Soy protein powders should not be used, as they can interfere with absorption of thyroid medication. Other protein powders should be okay, if used in moderation. It's best to talk to your doctor... Cytomel is not known to cause bloating/gas issues.
Avatar m tn Too much protein damages the kidneys because it is very hard to digest, and requires a lot of stomach acid for proper digestion. It also throws off the proper balance of other nutrients. BCAAs are liver protective for the same reason lots of things are liver protective --they have antioxidant properties that help protect the liver. And I can't tell you how much protein is optimal for you -- that will depend on your particular metabolism and whether you're getting the results you want.
Avatar f tn I'd first consider just adding another healthy meal. Most shakes doctors know about aren't particularly healthy. You can make your own, but to play it safe I'd try using rice protein as the base -- most shakes are either dairy or soy and they are both common allergens and many people don't tolerate them well.
Avatar m tn or milk, ice cream, and frozen fruit blended together for extra calories, protein and nutrients to help increase your weight. Thank you for your question.
Avatar f tn Weight gainers are typically higher in protein than whey protein supplements. However, the protein content comprises a significantly larger percentage of whey protein supplements than weight gainers. A lower-calorie weight gainer may contain 35 grams of protein, while a higher-calorie weight gainer may supply 100 grams of protein. However, given calorie amounts of 620 and 1,860, the protein comprises just 22.5 and 21.5 percent of the calories in these gainers.
Avatar n tn Protein powders are not good it even says it on the container. Haha, but quinoa is like a grain so I agree with the comment above. Chicken is a great source of protein and so is salmon but make sure they are cooked properly!!!
14652685 tn?1435693430 t know what cost effective options there are for getting enough protein. I just need a good source of protein that will be enough to stop my body from eating itself and will be affordable since, sadly, medical insurances don't exactly tend to help with the costs of dietary requirements. Any suggestions about brands and/or types of protein supplements?
Avatar f tn t obviously be the sum total of your diet. All legumes have positive qualities, are good sources of protein and fiber. And remember, all soy milk isn't created equally. Only buy organic soy products, avoid the soy based additives in so many foods such as TVP and hydrolyzed protein and soy extract and such -- the more processed any food is, the less healthful it is. Also remember that soy is a common food allergen, so be alert for that possibility.
Avatar m tn Does your country have health food stores? There are protein powders that are vegan. You could use these to supplement your diet. Also beans.
Avatar f tn There are also other seeds that taste better for protein, such as good old sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Nuts are essentially seeds. That's why these are all classified as fruits, but they are high in protein. Legumes include peanuts, azuki beans, anasazi beans, pinto beans, black beans, red beans, kidney beans, white kidney beans, garbonzo beans -- I mean, there's a lot of beans out there, and all are high in protein.
