I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.

I have heard that it helps when you are trying to conceive but I am not sure about when you are already pregnant or how much.
Thank you for response. Omega 3 worked wonderfully for me, even with my occasional Atrial fibrillation. One must, however, get a good brand from a real health food store and take 1 grm 3x's per day - my arrhythmia doctor recommended this. She also said selenium, magnesium, COQ10, calcium, aloe vera soft gels. I use what Dr. Oz recommends - Nordic Naturals - they have a bit of lemon so you don't get that awful after taste of fish oil.
Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.
What type of vitamins are you using any certain brand that you think is good or are you just getting the cheapest ones at the pharm? My depression meds have made my mind so foggy and cloudy that if thats working then i will sure give it a try so i can think more clearly again..
Most everyone knows or has heard about omega-3. The omega that many haven't heard about but that is very important to your health is omega-6. While omega-6 isn't bad in and of itself, what's bad about omega-6 is that Americans get too much of it. Having too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 in your diet leads to many diseases. To avoid these diseases, you must keep these two very important essential fatty acids in balance or the right ratio. When they get out of balance, you get sick.
Bill, thanks for the post. what is the Cleveland Clinic's position on Omega-3 for patients with coronary-related health issues? We generally think fairly positive on the overall benefits. There are studies supporting their overall benefit in patients with established heart disease. I personally don't recommend them first line as I try to focus on aggressive risk factor modification. Are their any risks?
only 2% at best of the omega-3 linolenic acid component is converted to the useful omega-3 fats DHA and EPA, and that is IF there are no omega-6 fats competing for uptake. Other than that, the linolenic acid in flax oil has no known use in the body, and flax oil obviously has shortcomings by containing a relatively high amount of inflammatory omega-6 linoleic acid.
The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL. If you raise HDL, that will be more preventive of future heart disease than lowering LDL unless you're LDL was sky high.
I have blockage and am taking so many pills that this sounded good to cut the number of pills I take. I bought 3 bottles of the Omega Q plus and will start taking when I run out of my other (about 2 weeks) will let you know what I come up with. Has anyone thought of having Dr. Oz check into Dr. Sinarta's claims?
The Ornish diet puts no restriction on calorie intake mainly because it’s hard to consume too many calories eating fruits and vegetables you’ll need to limit your calories on the South Beach Diet or a Mediterranean diet (another good one). A typical unrestricted diet for the average adult contains about 2,400 calories per day. Aim to keep your calorie intake to between 1,500 and 1,800 calories. The lower end is for women; the higher end is for men. Maintain your ideal body weight.
Article Date: 08 Feb 2013 - 0:00 PST email to a friend printer friendly opinions Research at Oregon State University has found that one particular omega-3 fatty acid has a powerful effect in preventing liver inflammation and fibrosis - common problems that are steadily rising along with the number of Americans who are overweight.
Thanks for sharing that info. I've had arrythmias for many years, but have never heard the correlation between SCD and Omega-3's. I'm thinking that's because I don't have a "bad" arrythmia. Whew!
My concern is about EFA'S What do you think is the maximum you could take if you are pregnant? I'm getting conflicting information on line. I'm presently taking 1,600 mg a day just to be safe. I would like to take more but I'm a little worried. I'm also taking regular prenatal vitamins and they contain about 250 mgs of DHA. Does this sould like too much?
These oils are good for the heart and brain, and you need 500mg daily for a healthy heart and 1000mg for the brain. Some pills are 1000mg, but only contain 240mg of the essential oils per pill. So, you really need to take 4 of them a day. It has been proven that EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) has a good effect on the arteries and heart/brain. You just need to find a way to swallow them.
did you have any of these symptoms before you started the Omega 3? have you stoped taking it? if so, when you stope taking the Omega 3 did the side effects go aswell?
Fish oils and all oily fish are extremely good for dogs. Omega 3 oils, all-round healthy for dogs and people. Tuna, sardines, salmon, mackerel.....(mind the bones. They can be dangerous of course) The bones in canned fish are ok, they are softer and not only edible but an excellent source of calcium too.

I don't know when I am ovalating, its hard for me to pin point when to check. I know you all here are trying your best to consive and nothing seems to happen.
John's Wort doesn't mix well with certain meds so make sure your doctor knows that you take it. Also if you are not low on B12 it can build up too. I am all for ANYTHING that might help. I just want to warn you that you can make yourself worse if you take things that build up or mess with your meds. Be Careful and Take care - inform your doctor of your choices. Supplements are medicine so when they ask what meds you are taking list the supplements too please.
Some women find the prenatal pills make them feel sick, so you might have to experiment with which ones work best for you. In addition to my prenatals, I take Omega3 too, because I'm not eating all that much fish right now. If you buy omega3 pills too, make sure they're the ones high in DHA (the bottle might say brain on it, and the blurb might mention they're good for pregnant women).
Off treatment Omega 3's (flax, nuts, seeds) are good because they are anti-inflamatory by nature but on treatment a more pro-inflamtory effect is desired from the omega 6's (egg yolks, olive oil, dairy and red meat). Look up Archiodonic Acid in Omega 6's and Interferon treatment.
It's safe but make sure they have folic acid
I was told today that Omega 3 Fish Oil is good also for dry skin. I just got a bottle and you just have to take one capsule once a day. It isn't expensive either.
Have you tried prenatals with ginger in them? They're called something like rainbow choice or rainbow light . . . I'll look at the bottle when I get home. I threw up all the other kinds of vitamins, especially omega-3 supplements. Even now with these vitamins I find it best to take them in the middle of lunch, because I can't handle the nausea at any other time of day. How far along are you? Are you keeping down the vitamins?
you need to calm down, for starters. they're pills. and obviously it's time to stop. you are going to feel "fluish" - so what. you already know that. you're not going to die. why are you freaking out so bad?
Or are you alternating 100 mcg with 113 mcg - meaning that one day you take 100, then the next you take 113 for an average of 106.5/day? OR, are you taking 100 mcg Tirosint daily, then on MWF, you add the 13 mcg of T3 pig thyroid? This one makes more sense, but please verify. The pig thyroid is strictly T3 med? Strange, I didn't know they could separate the T4 from the T3 in pig thyroid - learn something new every day, huh?
