omega-3

9214378 tn?1408881584 Egg yolks contain about three times the amount of omega-6 to omega-3, so I have always said if you are going to give eggs, give three egg whites to one egg yolk, so the balance becomes stable and beneficial. Egg whites have (obviously) far more omega-3, but they are also high in cholesterol, so feeding too much is not good for a dog's heart or cirulatory system. A much better source of omega-3 is salmon oil, as this has many beneficial properties and is easy to digest.
Avatar m tn Quite a complex topic this but at the same time an interesting one. Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
1655526 tn?1330655629 Coincidently, around 12 years ago when my arrythmia took a turn for the worse, I was on a health kick, had decided to clean up my health and diet, and started taking fish oil with Omega 3-6-9 and borage oil because I had heard it was heart healthy and would lower my cholesterol. Never made the connection between the supplements and the worsening arrythmia. I was on several other self-prescribed vitamin and mineral supplements as well.
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
Avatar f tn If you research it, they are the best source for non-fish Omega-3, even better than walnuts (and less fattening).
Avatar m tn more likely due to allergic phenomenon from other causes like pollens, house dust mite, etc.
612551 tn?1450022175 s a complicated process, but effectively dogs find it hard to convert alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) to the more active non-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, so although some omega-6 is okay (in fact, some say it's essential), it's the ratio between omega-3 and omega-6 that's important. Therefore, the inflammatory effects of flax seed may not be quite as powerful as the effects contained in fish oils.
Avatar f tn My prenatal have everything But omega 3 when do I start taking it? I'm 18 weeks.
Avatar f tn Yeah It's Ok to eat..
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Fish oil pills are an excellent way to raise your HDL and lower LDL due to the high content of the Omege 3 fatty acids that they contain. Anything that has a high Omega 3 content will have this effect, such as flax seed. Most commercial eggs are commonly high in Omega 6 fatty acids due to the fact that they are raised in cages and eat the seeds of plants that have a high Omega 6 content. Omega 6 fatty acids have the effect of raising LDL levels in the blood.
Avatar m tn My opinion mainly a way of sucking more money out of the pocket of patients and insurance companies. Plus once you buy this you have to get patients to use it in order to pay for it. There is a big movement now in optometric and ophthalmology circles to proclaim oneself 'Dry Eyes Center of Excellence" and this supposedly can addd $500K to $1M extra revenue/year. I think it is a racket.
Avatar m tn I just follow the dose on bottle I got from gnc store but try to find one with lemon in it cause you burp and it lemony without it the taste is very fishy
Avatar f tn OK so I went online and got the general idea of what WIC is. But is it worth it? Did it help you? How much so? Are the benefits different for each person or no?
703362 tn?1427766328 I love them and used to raise my own exotic chickens and enjoy their fresh eggs - boy do I miss them. You can now buy eggs with Omega 3 (or 6?) in it. They feed flax seeds to the chickens and it makes the eggs even more healthier for you.
198942 tn?1236316304 We all need the essential fatty acids to stay healthy, and oils that are high in Omega 3 oils, we get enough Omega 6 oils in our diets through eggs and such. The omega 3 is best obtained from fish, and I take a fish oil supplement for my heart and general brain health, it is in liquid form and not too bad once you get used to it. Flax seed oil is another good oil, it sort of has a "nutty" taste.
671251 tn?1236116671 I checked out some library books about childbirth. I got one book about diet called Healthy Eating During Pregnancy. It says that Omega 3 fatty acids are "brain building fats" for the baby's developing brain. It's especially important to eat a lot during the last three months of pregnancy when the brain grows so much. It's also good for the baby's nerves and eyes. Eggs and certain kinds of fish are good sources.
Avatar n tn The dark cola drinks also need to be avoided as they are rich in phosphorus which tends to accumulate. Foods that are high in protein are meat, poultry (chicken), fish, eggs, and dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt) should be taken in lesser amounts as they are to be excreted by kidneys and hence increase the renal workload. There’s no drug to decrease creatinine levels but the only way is to find out the underlying cause of the deranged kidney function and rectify the same.
1157646 tn?1343967128 Thank you for your reply TrudieC. I will definately try both heat and cold to see what helps. I will also definately up my intake of Omega 3. Thanks again!!
Avatar f tn My diet contains no transfat or vegetable oils high in omega 6 and my favourite foods are bacon, eggs, butter and cheese. I found an article that lists ways to reduce prostaglandins. I don't eat anything raw though..ugh! lol Excerpt from the article Tripping Lightly Down the Prostaglandin Pathways... "Tips for Tripping Lightly Down the Prostaglandin Pathways 1. Avoid all hydrogenated fats 2.
