Are lumigan and latisse the same

Common Questions and Answers about Are lumigan and latisse the same

lumigan

Avatar m tn There is two different brands that say they have the same effect as Latisse but they cost much less than Latisse. They are Lumigan, and Bimatoprost. My question is do they actually have the same effect like Latisse? what is the diffrence??
Avatar m tn It took about 3 weeks to start noticing a difference. My eyebrows are now fuller, darker and the hairs longer. The results for the eyebrows are more subtle than the eyelashes, but definitely an improvement. The eyebrows took about 10 weeks to notice a difference. I will never stop using this product--it's great.
757137 tn?1347196453 t harm the eye or vision but side effects include redness and irritation on the eye and dark pigmentation around the edge of the lids. Plus the stuff is extremely expensive expect to pay about $120 per bottle. If you stop the meds they stop growning It works on most people, we've used it for years as lumigan for glaucoma. as with any medicine it doesn't work on everyone.
Avatar f tn org The glaucoma drops Xalatan, Lumigan and Travitan Z grown eyelashes in about 70% of the people that use them. The FDA has just approved a formulation of lumigan called Latisse for use to grow eyelashes.
Avatar n tn One of the drops in this family of glaucoma medicines (Lumigan) is sold in a different form (Latisse) by plastic surgeons and dermatologists for eye lash growth.
Avatar m tn I have had that too and noticed it the past couple of years...I'm 56 and not using Latisse or anything else. It does irritate my eye sometimes, and I have pulled them in the past. Don't know if it's normal, but I never was concerned either. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
Avatar n tn OK, help. I'm 45, doc verified post-menopausal (yes, very very early) and the last couple of years I have significant darkening of my sclera (whites of my eyes). I have had hypothyroidism since I was about 20 and I take levothyroxine. I had my doc run a full blood / urine panel to ensure it wasn't thyroid/kidney/liver related (nope). I went to my Opthomologist and he said he agreed they were dark but could see nothing medically wrong with my eyes.
1775444 tn?1319258310 You need to see an ophthalmologist Eye MD to be sure you do not have eyelid problems (blepharitis, styes, chalazions, etc.) You need to be honest with yourself and ask if you pull or pluck your eyelashes; that is a disorder called trichotilomania. If the answer is you have none of these conditions there is a medication to make eyelashes grow full, thick and long.
Avatar n tn The only thing that may help is stopping the lumigan and eventually you may see some improvement. You can also get the same problem with travatan and xalatan. I suggest you look into SLT laser treatment as a way to reduce the pressure and maybe drop down to just one medication a day hopefully. Then you might be able to use alphagan or trusot/azopt or a beta blocker and avoid the darkening problem.
Avatar n tn t find thick eye mucus anywhere listed as a symptom for Ocular Rosacea. I have recently started using Latisse and it seems to be helping with the swelling of the upper eyelid, but not with the itching and mucus. Could this be Ocular Rosacea? Is Latisse used for treatment of Ocular Rosacea?
Avatar f tn several months ago, I started using latisse. I liked the way my eyelashes looked, but around the 4th month, i noticed my eyes started feeling funny, so i stopped using the lattisse altogether. it's been a couple months since I stopped using latisse, but i noticed about 3 weeks ago that I have persistent problems focusing, and I feel slight headache and nausea. last saturday, I went to an optometrist and was told my prescription was too strong (-4.75 r, -4.5 left originally).
Avatar n tn Hi, I don't know anything about your eyes obviously...but I will tell you what my retinal specialist said about Latisse. I had to use pressure reducing drops after surgery and I was afraid of the side effects and he told me I wasn't on one that had the side effects I was worried about. But... he said Latisse is the drug I was worried about. He is disappointed that such a powerful glaucoma drug is being marketed to people as a way to grow eyelashes.
Avatar f tn I think Latisse is for eyelashes - did you mean eyelashes? Otherwise, I too have lost the outer edges of my eyebrows and doubt I'll ever see them again. However, Mary Shomon said that evening primrose oil and other supplements helped her to thicken her hair.
12845664 tn?1427483649 They are not the same medication. Lumigan was initially sold as 0.03% but there was a very high incidence or redness, scaling, irritation, inflamed eyelids severe enough to discontinue the medication. They then came out with the 0.01% and found that these side effects were lowered. Still though Lumigan is more irritating for most people than latanoprost and Travatan Z. You should also look at how much money you save. Many of the new generics are not that much less expensive than the brand name.
Avatar n tn Hello Dr Hagen Is there any difference between generic latanoprost and Xalatan? Are the inactive ingredients the same? Are there any differences in quality or effectiveness? I've read of people reacting to the generic (red, stinging eyes, darkening around the eyes), but being fine with the brand name. Also, is it worth requesting the preservative-free version, Zioptan? I want to minimise side effects.
Avatar m tn Also beta blocker eye drops are not as strong, or as long lasting as lumigan and beta blockers do not work at night whereas lumigan does. If you had side effects on BB before you likely would again. So if lumigan once/day is working well why try something new that likely will not work as well.
Avatar n tn Alphagan is less expensive than Alphagan P. The difference is the preservative that is less irritating to some people with the "P" type. The IOP lowering capacity is the same. Xalatan (latanoprost) is often NOT used after intraocular surgery as it may increase inflammation and swelling in the macula. Home tonometry doesn't work for most people (scratched corneas, inaccurate readings, excess anxiety) discuss with the glaucoma specialist.
Avatar f tn The makers of Lumigan recently started to market the very same drops under the name Latisse for eyelash growth. I understand that they also looked into using it as a treatment for baldness but its too expensive to cover a large area like the scalp. I am very disappointed at postings that indicate people feel their surgeons are pressuring them to upgrade to a multifocal IOL.
Avatar m tn Heart arrhythmia including PVCs is not likely due to Lumigan or the two other medications in that family (Travatan-Z and latanoprost). They are not listed in the drug prescribing literature. I have several thousand patients on these medication and only have one patient in many years that complained of heart beat problems HOWEVER when we changed to a different type of medication (different class of glaucoma medications at present there are 4 classes) the problem stopped.
Avatar n tn However, last visit hemorrhage on optic nerve found and added Alpgagan P to Lumigan, did not do a thing after 6 weeks, pressure 24 today. Dr. Stated Alphagan P was the best he could do with MEDS, and it did not do a thing so wants to do SLT which he says may not work or can make pressure worse. So if SLT does not work are my only options more riskier surgeries! Visual field gave been perfect for last 8 years, do not know if this hemorrhage has caused defects as yet!
Avatar n tn y yet FDA approved and the product was available), so my lashes were always super long and lush. Only one single lash has grown back in almost 3 months, so my Derm prescribed FML (the ointment) for me. I've been using it for only about a week now and also haven't noticed a difference. It leaves a greasy residue on the lashes adjacent to the "bald spot", and I'm scared that weighing those down will also make them fall out. You might want to ask your MD for Latisse.
Avatar m tn I want to follow through with my ophthalmologist and suggest I come off of both the Lumigan and Azopt and get a true baseline of my current un-medicated IOP. I have no idea if either of the 2 meds are still really doing anything after all these years. I'm really curious to see what the IOP is now since having the swollen lenses removed and replaced with IOLs. I might be pleasantly surprised to find I no longer need as much meds as before.
Avatar n tn So I was taken off of the glaucoma medication alphagan because it was not working well and caused severe dry eye and floaters and then I was put on and am currently on lumigan 0.01% that helps the pressure but makes the dry eye and floaters still a problem. For the uveitis I am on pred Forte 0.01% and has caused a slight cataracts. For my dry eye syndrome, I am allergic to most of the things prescribed to me so I take preservative-free over the counter refresh tears four to six times a day.
Avatar m tn d like your eyes to be more visible without falsies and a mountain of makeup--and you are willing and able to spend a fairly large chunk of change, this stuff is a good investment.
Avatar m tn I thought he had pressure under control with Lumigan, and he even stopped that in the left eye months ago, then restarted after the visual field test showed deteriration.
274009 tn?1224434467 s the problem. A second opinion also gave me bad advice about the n------e retinologist I was seeing. And the second opinion was at a university hospital. The second second opinion did back me up on which procedure to try next (surgery #6?). A doctor in my city wanted to take the oil out and put in a gas bubble. I told him no, that the oil was holding my eye together. The doctor in Dallas backed me up and said that more silicone oil was a possibility.
