I have had so many problems in the last couple months that I really don't know where to start. My latest is a pain in my front upper left side right below my rib cage. It's not constant and it's not a bad pain but just enough to bother me and worry me. I am also having bad lower back pain that comes and goes. I have had changes in bowel movements going back and forth from constipation to loose stools.
What is the pattern of the pain? Crampy or steady. What makes the pain worse? pain due to inflammation (appendicitis, diverticulitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis) typically is aggravated by sneezing, coughing or any jarring motion. Patients with inflammation as the cause of their pain prefer to lie still. What relieves the pain? Vomitings or taking antacids. Are there associated signs and symptoms like fever, diarrhea or rectal bleeding? Can be diverticulitis or GERD or peptic ulcers.
I went home, and within an hour was doubled over in excruciating pain. Long story short, ended up in ER with acute appendicitis. Had a laporoscopy and woke up in ICU - the appendix had been leaking and was ready to rupture. As a final note - I explained all my symptoms to the doctors and colleagues at work (I work in a health oriented environment) and ALL of them said that the previous incidents were unrelated. I don't believe them and am sure that I experienced chronic appendicitis.
I also have an old compression fracture of T7, with some marrow edema, so no one has been able to pin down where the pain originates. I have pain that wraps around my rib cage every now and then, makes it hurt to take a deep breath. I've had the pain from the gallbladder area down to my waist for several years; it comes and goes. My PCP has been great about ordering tests to see if it was my gallbladder, my liver, kidneys, whatever.
It's about 2 or 3 inches below my rib cage, on the right side. If you draw a clock face with my belly button facing forward to 12 o'clock, the pain would be about 2 o'clock position, but sometimes it could move a little more central or else more around to the right side 3 o'clock position. It's a discomfort/dull ache which is made worse by sitting down/leaning forward.
I also get pains on the other side in the same place. Along with the upper right quadrant under my rib cage i get intense pain for a few seconds. My legs will go numb somethings, but not a numb that i cant feel, almost in a painful way, that has happened since i was a little kid. Any ideas?
For a little over a month, I have had mostly right-sided abdominal pains right under the rib cage, a dull ache on the lower right side of my back, and periodic burning sensations in the lower abdominal area (left and right). The pains are worsened when sitting or standing for a long period of time, and get a little better at night when I sleep. I had a CT scan with contrast b/c I was afraid of appendicitis, and nothing unusual was found.
I am 28 year old female I am having bad pain in right side below my rib cage, I just had a ultra sound done And it came back normal, I am getting worried as my pain doesn't fade?
I've been following your comments as well as those of Leslie44. I have had similar symptoms of pain under my right front rib cage and well as on my back right rib cage. This started about 6 months ago. At first, it was really intense, happened about 1-2 times a week. Then in January thru March of this year, it became more frequent. But starting in April, it turned into more of a stiffness similar to what revjr is reporting.
at times when I bend forward, I have a feeling like something is knotting up in my abdomin just under my right side of my rib cage and if I do not stand back up straight I feel like it will bust. After this it will be sore for days and feel like it is more apt to happen again for the next few days as well. It also happens in the lower part of my abdomin at times where my appendix scar is.
I'm having pain on my right side, it feels like it is on my rib cage. The pain comes and goes. It was less frequent this morning now it feels like it is happening more and more. Is there a live person I can speak to?

i don't know if thats the case though. When i have pain it's on both sides of my rib cage and i feel like their caving in. in my lower stomach it's on both sides too but the majority is on the left. I also have dirahea a lot, and sometimes the pain is so great i start sweating all over.

I think my child has appedicitis, but the medical community tells me no. Her pain started really 3 weeks ago, in the center, below her rib cage. The pain then moved to her belly button (about 1 inch to the right and 1 inch down). That was the first trip to the ER (initial blood work, sonogram, rectal exam) - nothing. We followed with additional blood work to rule out colitis, ulcer, crones, etc., and tried some Nexium.
When an endoscopy was done, esophageal damage was found, and I was told that was causing the pain under my right rib cage. When I look at anatomy pictures, this makes no sense to me. It hurts when I press on it, but also when it hurts on its own, I feel like I need to place pressure on the area to make the pain stop. with both pains, in the lower and upper right quadrants, curling into the fetal position feels best, with my hand on top of the place where the pain is.
If the pain is located just under rib cage it may be your pancreas. It hurts really bad, so bad it will bring tears to your eyes. It will last around a week and almost drive you insane. It does not let up. I suggest seeing Doctor for blood work and pain medication. I ended up in the emergency due to length of constant pain. I am right now having a flair up but I know more on what to do. Bed, short breaths and rest. 3 days it moved to left side and is now gone. Part of the disease. I guess.
for about a month now I have been having this Cramping dull like pain on my Lower right side of the abdomen...I also feel a dull pain on the upper right side as well just under the rib cage...I have not noticed any blood in bowels...the pain is intermittent especially on the Lower right side and it is more of a slight dull ache that stays for about 20 - 30 mins then dissapears.
I've had a pain in my upper right abdomen right under my rib cage for about a month and nobody can tell me what's wrong. I originally went to the ER because the pain was so intense I could hardly function. I had a CT scan done at the ER where they determined that my appendix was enlarged but no infection was found on any blood work. They gave me the option to stay the night to be observed or go home and come back if the pain got worse.
I have dull pain or pressure under my rib cage on my right side. This has been going on for a while and the pain is always there sometimes worse than other times. Sometimes it feels like there is a balloon inside and it is slowly being filled with air. The pain/pressure seems to be worse when I am constipated and that happens pretty often. I have had an ultrasound and everything looked good. My liver enzymes were fine. Firstly, what type of doctor should I see to help me out on this?
Now i am sitting at home still having abdominal pains. and all of a sudden im having really bad side pains under my right rib cage and its a stabbing pain. Can someone please help me and tell me what i should do.
all along right sided pain up under my right rib cage and at times would radiate down my right side, I felt and still do that there is a knott on my right side up close to my rib cage which has gotten bigger, all tests show an enlarged Liver, with no bells going off for any one??? (My mom just died of Cancer to her liver) But every one saying just a fatty liver enzymes ok, ok explain the pain, explain the bloating weight gain of 17-10 in a short period of time in my abdomen!
The first time it happened, the dull ache lasted for hours. The exact location is on my abdomen, directly below where my rib cage ends on the right. Any thoughts/ideas on what this could be? I have an appt with my doctor in a couple of weeks, just wondering if I could get some ideas in the meantime.
I had a 6 year old (Native American) go to the OR for appendicitis (right lower quadrant pain) and then they found the tip of a low hanging gall bladder and had to extend the incision all the way up.
The pain was at the lower right hand side (around the waist) but since taking a laxative recommended by the doctor the pain has moved a bit and is now higher and around the rib cage. The doctor said he did not have to go to the emergency at the hospital if the stomach was not hard in the meantime the pain increases. He has always had a bowl movement every morning. Since this pain started he has does not go regularly and the few times he has been, it has been almost nothing.
The last few days, the pain occasionally has bene more intense under might right rib cage. I can hear gurgling, but it seems I cant get the apparent gas to move. In terms of pain or gas pressure, eating doesn't change anything and it's no worse at night. I never wake up because of it. I also haven't really changed anything in my diet. I can press on the right side, middle and top and feel some pressure pain from pushing down.
